The Turkey Roost

Fall Turkey Strategies

Uploaded on June 16, 2009

I have applied for the Fall Wisconsin Turkey hunt and have never hunted turkey in the fall. Are there different strategies to use in the fall than what is used in the spring? Does anyone have any good tips? Thanks.

their is definitly a differnt statgies for hunting in the fall. I try to find where the flock is eating or roosting than just run at them and scater the flock. After you do this they will try to find each other by peeping like this ,peep, peep, peep. or some such noise sum times they just cluck . but "set up" like 30-60yds away for where they were and start "peeping" or clucking and call the flock to you . & use the "kee kee run"

If you can locate the jakes and toms you can fake a fight.the males are battling in the fall. This used to be considered the true turkey hunt before the huge population decline.I've done it that past few seasons and I agree that it is just as good as the spring and better. There is publication on the technique but you have to look a little harder to find.Good luck doin' battle.

Steve Hickoff's book Fall & Winter Turkey Hunters Handbook is the best on this subject. He explains the changing make of the fall flock. I use to take an occasional turkey while bowhunting deer. Now I focus on turkeys and bag 6 or more each fall. We have it great in WI for fall turkey in most areas unlimited OTC tags are available.
Fall hunting is as exciting as the spring hunt, nothing like calling a whole flock.
What part of WI are you from?
