The Turkey Roost
I'm not talking about the ice breaking up. What has me excited is the fact that the winter groups of old gobblers are breaking up into smaller factions and even singles. Where I was seeing a half a dozen longbeards hanging out together, I'm now seeing pairs, at the most. I've had turkeys gobbling at daybreak two days now, on pretty mornings and I'm getting fired up. I just got my mouth callers out of the freezer where they'd been since last May and they are working fine. This anticipation of turkey season is the best thing for me since getting ready for Christmas when I was five years old. How about the rest of you? Heard any? Got your gear ready to go? Know where you'll be opening morning?
why do you freeze your mouth calls
I read that it keeps the latex from deteriorating, and apparently it works. I've had mouth calls become unusable from one season to the next, and I thought I'd give it a try. I was also careful to separate the reeds when I stored them. Since it seems like every time I find a call that I like, they discontinue it, I thought I'd try to make them last.
They are still in big groups here, but I am getting ready, shooting my bow, practice on the calls, and getting gear together. I refrigerate my mouth calls, I going to start freezing them next year, thank's for sharing the tip.
In WI the winter flocks are starting to break up. Been seeing gobblers strutting and fighting with some occasional gobbling. Our fall season does not end until Dec 31 so my gear is still ready.

Gobblers are just now breaking up in NE Oklahoma,I saw something I've never seen before, a big longbeard whoopin the crap out of a coyote.
