The Turkey Roost

West Virginia Turkey Hunting

Uploaded on May 17, 2011

Anyone that hunts WV tired of having turkey season so late in the year. Seems by the 2nd week the woods go somewhat silent, after they leave the limb, and by the 3rd week gobbling on the roost decreases drastically. Do you all have the same problem?

It's been as poor of a season in Hardy county as I've seen in quite a while. Heard a bit of gobbling about a month prior to the season and very little during. Pretty much everybody I've talked to said the same thing. I blame part of it on the coyotes, predation and the turkeys are learning to stay quieter. Time to go fishing and groundhog hunting.

Only in the northern half of Ohio, too many of us I think. Near Cambridge though there seems to be no shortage. Coyotes are migrated here from Pa. and they seem to be effecting the population here as well.

Gobble, what's a gobble? This season has been whack all over the country.

i have barely heard any gobbling all season this year in MI...usually i apply and get drawn for the early season in mid april, but due to school this year i bought the general season tag for the month of may...heard good gobbling first 2 days but after that nothing...there are a few gobbles here and there but birds are pretty quiet...however they are definitely still breeding. im still seeing a boatload of birds strutting, they just are not vocal at all.
