The problem is that they are not going to use background checks for the mentally ill,( like when they get their drivers license) only law abiding persons that want to participate in law abiding activities, which means they are really pushing for gun registry.
and we all know what happens next, just look what happened to that couple that had their child taken away from them because they went "against" the system and wanted a second opinion. We lose our guns, we lose everything.
No we are not screening the mentally ill, and I am not talking about some knee-jerk "gun" bill but overall- We are not looking at the greatest killer of people today, the automobile. We are not doing anything to keep dangerously mentally ill people off the streets or under strict supervision. And don't even get started on gun registration which will come from the fed. background checks. and if you do not think this will be abused, look what happened in NY counties with the addresses of permit holders being published. I just do not understand you guys, why do you ignore the criminals and the ill, but focus on the good law abiding population? Get rid of the "gun free" target(that's what they are)zones,Give up the foolish notion that the police protect you and let people protect themselves.
My personal concerns go beyond one particular bill that is worded in such a way as put some gunowner's minds at ease. What bothers me is what's next.
Why do I believe there is a "next"? Because the politicians pushing bills like this one have told us this is just the begining.
I repeat they have told us this is just the begining.
It never ends. Guys (and gals) like Toomey and Manchin have built careers on gun control.
One bill leads to another which leads to another etc., etc., etc. They know they can't do all they want at one time and have said so. So they get what they can when they can. This, they have also told us, is their strategy.
So I find it a wee bit difficult to buy into whatever bs they shovel at us to get us to go along with the latest, greatest bill they have authored when they have told us time and again what the true goal is.

RJ,
They're not screening for the mentally ill?
Strange...it seems to be right there in the bill.
means they are really pushing for gun registry?
Gosh, that seems to be spelled out pretty clearly too.

RJ,
I suggest you try reading Sen. Toomey and Manchin's bill before making such predictions of impending registration.
