First confirmed wolf killed in southeastern Montana

Uploaded on November 29, 2011

A wolf was killed just a little ways southwest of where I live, I happen to know the rancher involved so thought I would beat FS to the punch. http://billingsgazette.com/lifestyles/recreation/wolf-killed-in-southeas...

Hopefully a legal kill and if so good for the hunter and the Elk population.

Yes it was legal, the wolf was in the pasture in the act of killing lambs. Right near the house. Law dictates if a wolf is in the act of killing livestock then one is well within their rights to kill the offending animal.

So how is the wolf hunt going this year? I remember reading that Idaho has had to extend the season and open it up to trapping in order to attempt to bring populations down to desired numbers. Is Montana where it wanted to be at this time of the year?

I just read the F+W report on Wyoming here.

I don't mind there being wolves around but I wouldn't be happy if they started to put a severe dent in elk populations down here in CO.

There is the info, doesn't look like they are getting as many as they set the quota for. I don't mind wolves just so long as they allow us to manage them as a game animal.
