Halt on sale of Ammunition by June 30 2009?

Uploaded on January 22, 2009

I just received this in an email and I want to know if anyone has heard more about this issue.

Nobody can sell any ammunition after June 30, 2009
It has already started....
Ammunition Accountability Legislation Remember how Obama said that he wasn't going to take your guns? Well, it seems that his allies in the anti-gun world have no problem with taking your ammo! The bill that is being pushed in 18 states (including Illinois and Indiana ) requires all ammunition to be encoded by the manufacture a data base of all ammunition sales. So they will know how much you buy and what calibers. Nobody can sell any ammunition after June 30, 2009 unless the ammunition is coded. Any privately held uncoded ammunition must be destroyed by July 1, 2011. (Including hand loaded ammo.) They will also charge a .05 cent tax on every round so every box of ammo
you buy will go up at least $2.50 or more! If they can deprive you of ammo they do not need to take your gun! This legislation is currently pending in 18 states: Alabama , Arizona , California , Connecticut , Hawaii , Illinois , Indiana , Kentucky , Maryland , Mississippi , Missouri , New Jersey , New York , Pennsylvania , Rhode Island , South Carolina , Tennessee , and Washington . Send to your friends in these states AND fight to dissolve this BILL! To find more about the anti-gun group that is sponsoring this legislation and the specific legislation for each state, go to: http://ammunitionaccountability.org/Legislation.htm

I remember back in the '70s we went thru something similar. Every time you bought metallic cartridges, even 22, you had to provide ID and sign a log. It fizzled out.

I just read the bill as written for the state of Missouri. What a crock. The only way to tell if a bullet has been properly encoded and in compliance with the law is to pull each one from the casing and inspect the base of the bullet.
I have serious doubts if the lawmakers will even hear this piece, hopefully just let it sit and die.

At this time, a more concrete threat is offered by H.R. 45 (2009) -- a bill currently sponsored in the U.S. House to require all firearms owners to obtain a license to own firearms from the U.S. Attorney General, application to include photograph, id, and fingerprints.

Yeah, I heard something similar to that. Certain firearms will also stop being sold as well ie. AR-15, Ruger mini 14, and pretty much any semi-auto shotgun. I just e-mailed my Alaska Congressman today. I am in the military and I think it sucks. Being stationed in Illinois I must use my FOID (Fire Arms Identification card)just to purchase ammo.

I read the text of a same Bill that was filed last year in Missouri. Sponsored by some Democrat out of St. Louis ... from what I could gather, the Bill didn't go anywhere and died. I don't see how a Bill like this would pass, if there is a similar Bill this year I'll bet it dies just like the last one.

This is perhaps the stupidest idea I have ever heard. A number encoded on the base of a bullet. So what, they have an easier time catching the guy after he already killed you. I thought the idea was to prevent crime not make it easier to catch the guy after he already commits the crime. Bottom line is that it is poor legislation that will do nothing to stop or prevent crime.

There are always going to be attempts to control/restrict fire arm ownership and use. We all have to stick together, keep informed and support hunting and firearms clubs and organizations. Also know who you're voting for and where they really stand on outdoor issues and firearms ownership.
Support the NRA and other groups in your state, teach your kids safe and responsible gun use, and be thankful for and use great forums like this one to stay informed.

If these bills go through it will be because of voter apathy. Don't ever let your thinking resolve to what happened in the past. We're facing a whole new challange by anti's everywhere and the movement to eliminate our weapons is going hard and fast. Let your legislators know what you think. Rest assured, the anti's are pounding their phone lines and mail boxes with their agenda. Every gun owner and hunter should be joining the NRA to give us strength in numbers. Don't leave it on the back of your buddies that belong to the NRA to continue the fight for your rights. We all need to help if we are to be successful in these major battles with the anti's.

It’s going to start all over again, ATF busting into your house and putting your kids at gun point. And they have the edacity to say are troops were wrong. As if a criminal is going to use coded ammo. They will get uncoded, or file off the #'s. Same with making it to where your gun stamps primers or cases when fired, would take a criminal about 2 second to undo with a Dremil tool. These politicians need to fix the real problems in this country, instead of inventing other agendas inorder to avoid dealing with the real problems. Glad I live in Idaho, don't know how you guys can stand to live in the big brother socialist states.

The liberals know they'll never get away with an outright gun ban, so they're just going to keep doing these little underhand shenanigans. They'll start imagining environmental problems caused by lead bullets and make them illegal. Your only alternative will be more expensive metals, which will drive up the cost of shooting. Little taxes and registration schemes like this one will also help drive up the price and make buying ammo more of a hassle. Their goal is to make shooting a sport so expensive and hard to pursue that no one will be able to do it.

This is the most ludicrous piece of (excrement) legislation I've ever heard of.This will do for ammo what prohibition did for alcohol. This will do nothing to stop a crime. And I also heard that by 2011 all uncoded ammo must be destroyed. What are they going to do go house to house to see if everyone is complying with the law?Don't get me wrong,my heart goes out to all victims of gun crime, but this will do little to nothing because if a criminal steals a gun, they can just as easily steal the ammo. This will only burden everyone with additional costs in a already tough economy.

Questions:
1) How will they know every code on the bottom of every bullet you buy?
2) What happens if someone steals your ammo?
3) So I can no longer loan ammo to my buddy?
4) What if the bullet is so deformed you cant read the serial number?
5) How can they tell if I'm reloading, will they make me take my ammo apart? (I see a lawsuit, NRA baby!)
6) I hate this bill
7) It is a waste of my tax money and all the time and energy spent

True-A lot of folks don't get it! Because they don't really care. Apathy is its own punishment. Most people are unaware that their "rights" are not granted by the Constitution, but we HAVE rights, and ONLY THOSE POWERS WE GRANT TO GOV'T are those they have. We never surrendered everything to gov't yet, but they now believe we can't or won't do anything to sustain freedom and self-determination and so they persist in the slow, relentless, drive to control. After all, when control has been achieved, ownership is unnecessary. Come to your senses-frogs in the boiling pot!

I returned to this article just to see what the postings were saying. To the lady in Canada, you've already lost the right to have a hand gun. In addition, this bill doesn't just make someone sign for the purchase of ammo but requires you to purchase an additional annual license based on your past mental and medical conditions. In addition it requires that each box of ammo have serial numbers on the bullet and casing that are uniquely different from the each box purchased. Can you imagine what the costs will be to produce this rediculous cause in effect? This will allow a very limited amount of ammo to be purchased by an individual and will also eliminate reloading ammo altogether.
This bill will pretty much destroy hunting varmints, plinking with your children or grandchildren, and general practice through the horrendous expense that ammo will cost the recreational shooter. It will also allow the government to identify every type of gun you own when they come looking down the road. Don't think that won't eventually happen if bills of this nature get passed. This is why we, as hunters and gun owners, can't afford to sit on our apathetic laurels. We need to take an aggressive stance and get this crap stopped at the onset. Please join the NRA or another sportsmans group that has lobbying and legal clout to get these sort of bills stopped in their tracks. We need to show that all of us are united more now than at any other time in history. Please don't ride on the back of those of us that are giving our hard earned dollars to stop this crap. We need the help of every gun owner so we can show our strength in numbers.

Im not to sure that this is going to stick either. There is way too much hype for pros and cons for them to make an evenly based decision. Plus...with the way things are going now and with the economy the way it is, they just might have no choice but to LOOSEN up on some of the rules in order for us to survive. Any ban when it comes to our guns and ammo is scary, but it woukd have to be one hell of a good bill with millions of people behind it I think for anything to drastically change like that.

This is another ploy to unsettle decent law abiding tax payers and make us fear our government, Look at history Governments whos people feared them, The soviet Union, Nazi Germany, Faschist Italy, Cuba. We must band together to help stop these attacks on our rights and way of life and not give in to this climate of fear that is being cultivated. This has been floating around for some time now. It has been defeated at every state they tried to pass it in. Some idiot in Oregon or Washington came up with this idea and formed a company to make these bullets and he has been accused by the states he has attempted to get support in as trying to create legislation so he can profiteer on it as the SOLE provider. You have to keep an eye on congress and the so called president, however at this time there has been no passage of said bill. It's just that the demand for the industry is more than it can meet with two wars, the military and police needs, let alone the private sector, which has been buying firearms and ammunition at unheard of volume never seen before. Obama is the sales person of the year for the firearms industry. HR Bill 45 is something to oppose loudly. Of course the Ill senator that supports it now is accused of bartering for the seat with the ex Ill gov. Maybe they'll throw him out of office too. Make sure you tell your senators and congressmen to get rid of that SOB when you call to oppose HR 45. Be prepared and stay armed and ready. There are 100 million gun owners in this nation and if we stand together if and when they try to take them there is no way they will succeed in doing so! Even if it means another revolution against the liberal socialists’ in power now, then so be it. The tree of liberty must be watered from time to time with the blood of tyrants and patriots. I’d rather see it watered with the tyrant’s blood than ours. But if it is necessary to ensure our future generations’ freedoms and liberties I am ready to serve, again!

What everyone needs to realize is that it doesn't matter if this is in your state or not, now. All it takes is it passing in ONE state. The ammunition companies WILL HAVE TO COMPLY in order to continue to sell in that state. Once they have it in one state, the rest will follow suit just because it is already done and in place. YOU WILL HAVE TO PAY IF IT PASSES ANYWHERE. The word from the ammunition industry is that the retooling costs will be huge, and they will need three days or more to produce the same amount of product that they currently are making in a single day. Also, this cost will be for EVERYONE. That means Law Enforcement - Local, State and Federal so the tax dollars required to pay for their ammunition will have to go up. Also, the 5 cent a round cost will just be the beginning, because the administrative costs will skyrocket, you can count on it. How many ammunition manufactures will go out of business? And this will outlaw all handloading as well.

All law enforcement will have to destroy all of their ammo as it will not be serialize who is going to enforce the law on them. read the bills their is no mention that law enforcement will be exempt from this law. WELL I GUESS IT IS BACK TO FLINTLOCKS, they can come take my ammo one bullet at a time I have several million rounds
this is going to put alot of people out of work, not just the ammunition manufactures but distributors & class 01, 02, 03, 06, 07, & class10 FFL's . Who is going to check all the homes for illegal ammunition, who is going to stop people from going to states that dont have this billare their going to be road blocks to check people coming from states that dont have a bill for Illegal ammo.

I have been watching and reading about this legislation also. After resaerching thru the internet, it seems that the state of Ariziona defeated the bill. From what I have been able to find the rest of the states have buried the bill so deep in other bills it will hopefully take several more years before the bill comes before committee. Here in South Louisiana, common caliber rifle and pistol ammo is disappearing off store shelves rapidly. Rersearch thru the internet shows most mail-order ammo suppliers are "out-of-stock" as well. If I do manage to find common calibers anywhere the prices have jumped "sky-high" and it is usually for less rounds in the box. I am seeing the same thing with reloader suppliers also. I don't know if any of you are seeing the same things in your areas or not. It really looks more like panic buying and suppliers not making enough to keep up with the increased demand. I am guessing the manufactures don't want to be caught with the "uncoded ammo" in large quantities if the bills pass and then they would have to dispose of all of it.

I haven't been able to verify this on-line but if true it means our government has passed this in one of those massive omnibus bills that congress passes without ever reading and you know that our president will sign into law anything that restricts our access to guns and ammo.

the only thing a bill like would do is stop hunters. criminals and people who want to cause problems are not going to go to a place where they have to sign there name to get ammo. the people that really need to be stopped from shooting will find a way around buying legal ammo.

Right on Downinbama, this is just adding fuel to the ammo buying craz. The ammo companies are making it as fast as they can (24hr factory shifts). Its the hoarding of ammo that is causing the shortage.

Thank god that the bill for Ms died in committee. I go to church with the State Senator for our district, and he would have a lot of very angry hunters to hear from had something like that gone through. funny thing is, his last name is Browning.

anyways, somebody said it in an earlier post. if anything like this ever passes, it is going to be just like prohibition in the early part of the 1900s.

If it was even close to being passed, the NRA would be all over it and there would be no doubt in our minds this was happening. They would post it on everything associated with hunting or shooting from the outdoor channels, magazines, newspapers to their website. It's probably just something up for discussion but will not be voted on.

More problems on the Obama front . The prez. has already signed the CIFTA treaty with Mexico and others . The bill has been sent to the dem. majority senate for ratification . Among other things it would make reloading ammo illegal with out state or fed license (tax) with severe restrictions . A better summary here at, news with views, chuck baldwin , Obama positioning for back door gun control. Please contact your U.S. senator and all who will listen !

I have read most of the so called bills and they keep mentioning assault weapons. If I am correct their are no weapons that are assault weapons that law expired some time ago. Their is in-fact no current data bases for recording serializing ammo let alone to serialize ammo that technology hasn't been invented as of yet. I WANT TO KNOW HOW YOU SERIALIZE BIRDSHOT IT IS MADE FOR PISTOLS. If they try to stop the manufacture of ammunition what is the military going to do for ammunition let alone all of law enforcement.
Who is going to check all the homes for illegal ammunition, who is going to stop people from going to states that dont have this billare their going to be road blocks to check people coming from states that dont have a bill for Illegal ammo.

http://www.ammocoding.com this is the company that started all this BS. they are the only ones that have an encoding system but it costs from $300,000 to $500,000 plus a licesning fee for each round ( bullet serialized ) to be passed on to the consumer. THIS IS JUST WRONG. Isn't it against the law to have a monopoly on any industry. I seem to remember Ma bell being split up for the same thing.

Maybe their is more to this than meets the eye.Firearms sales are up over 27% from last year,i imagine more so for ammo.If this bill goes nowhere someone still made alot of money.SO be it guns made America great.I (we) could always use a few new guns, with plenty of ammo while its still cheap enough.Plink on,and help the NRA as much as possible in these difficult times..

Good to see people are talking about this now, Before its to late. You had better start emailing and calling your senators and keep informed who is voting on this kind of legislation. We need to fight back. Democrats have 60 seat majority in the senate now. Looks like law could start passing without much resistance if we the people don't start taking control of our government. Some may think that hunt_fish_sleep is off the mark. I think he is closer to the truth that some care to admit. If they will vote for Cap and Trade Legislation they will vote for H.R.45. Better keep on your toes with the our Current Government, America.
