Heading out in a couple of weeks

Uploaded on January 08, 2010

My son, brother-in-law, and a couple of buddies and I are heading out to Virginia Beach for a striper charter the last weekend of January. I'll let you know how we did and share any decent pictures, assuming we don't all freeze. There's a picture on my profile of a few we got last January. Best regards, all.

Here in jersey, the Striper fishery is Closed Jan.1 to Mar.31, though the water is usually a bit cold, they can still be caught in early Jan.

Here on the Gulf coast the stripers are already moving to the deep holes in the rivers .They can be seen chasing shad to the surface at daylight then go back down.

Trip has been canceled. Fishing is only legal within 3 miles of the Virginia coast and the captain tells me the fish have all moved out to about 25 miles offshore due to exceedingly cold weather and past the three mile limit they are fully protected so we're postponing until the trophy season in April. Stay tuned.

No problem, it's calling for crappy weather to travel in anyway. Warmer weather sounds much better.

I talked to the captain over the weekend, 12" of snow and 30 MPH winds down that way. Hello woodstove, goodbye fishing. I am so very tired of winter tho.
