Do you think that F&S should have a blog on the site on the Benefits of Hunting and the Concservation efforts on this site?
Because we have so many Antis, New Hunters and youngins showin up every day askin the same question or posting mis informed statements.
If they did what topics would you like to see covered?
I'd like to see topics on the following:
Hunters rights in their perspective States
Benefits of hunting and fishing and Trapping articles
More topics on true research on Animal related diseases and links to factual info.
Identification of species
Sighting in your Rifle, Patterning your shotguns
Home range set up and how to build and set up targets in a cost effective manner.
Predator vs Prey benefits
How to lay basic trap lines etc.
I don't care if the blog is run by a man or a woman but atleast it will cut down on some arguments and the redundent questions
I forgot how to maintain your firearm, knives, equipment.
I also think they should run articles on how Hunters and Outdoor related organizations benefit wildlife. (NWTF, RMEF, WF, QF, DT, DU etc)
Because it's not all just about banquets, gun shows, deer, bear and wolves.
It's about wildlife in general
Squirrel hunting, coon hunting are just as important as Deer and Bear
I would like to see F&S start another blog that focussed on how hunters have undertaken or supported conservation efforts or otherwise benefited the environment and which also discussed ways that landowning hunters could improve their property for both the environment and game.
Hopefully thewy will one day
I am a retired Conservation Officer of 36 years and have taught Hunter Education for over 40 years. The last 16 years of my career was as the training officer and that covered administrating the hunter education program. I have a public hunter education course coming up this coming weekend.
I think we should have a site with:
1. The Ten Commandants of Hunting Safety
2. Introduction to Hunter Ed and Hunting
3. Knowing the different types of hunting equipment and showing
how to load and unload safey all different types of firearms.
4. Know the basic shooting skills, marksmanship, sight alignment
shooting positions, and matching firearm to game.
5. Learn the basic hunting skills. Planning, hunting strategies,
vital zones on animals and where to shoot, and field care.
6. Know about primitive hunting, Archery and Muzzleloading
Safety procedures with bows and arrows and safety items with
muzzleloaders, flintlock and percussion.
7. Teach how to be a safe hunter. Firearms safety in home, safely
crossing obstacles, field carries, hunting from treestands.
8. Learn responsibility and ethical behavior. Obeying game laws
why they are made, explain how important it is for us to
portray the proper image, Learn that killing the animal is
only a small part of the hunt.
9. Learn some basic survival and first aid skills.
10. Learn about Wildlife Conservation and the importance of it.
Agreed...
Stephen D. Rexrode, I totally agreed and A + 1 for you sir!!!
Absolutely!
Stephen, those read like experience. a +1 to ya.
Sarge01,
Thank you for your service and dedication to the sports we love and hold dear. And great suggestions, I hope F&S is listening, pays attention, and tries to enact your ideas. I fully support your thoughts.
If F&S is listening I would be willing to help them put together a blog on the site on the benefits of ethical and responsible firearm handling and hunting. I feel that I have something to offer when it comes to the field of hunter education and safe firearms handling. My wife and I were trying to figure how many hunter education classes I have taught and as near as we can tell it is approximately 500 classes over a period of 35 years.
I would like to think that I have kept someone from becoming a hunting fatality .
I definitely think that a blog that had some good tips on how to recognize things like disease, parasites and the basic life cycles of the wild game available throughout the country would do us all a lot of good. Possibly something like highlighting a species each month or so, and anyone at Bonnier Corp who listens may end up making that a featured column on F&S.
Being as most of the wild game in the states is centered on Elk, whitetail, muleys, blacktail, hogs and other mammals, we could even get in some good articles on predators like bobcat, coyotes, fox and even mountain lions (if there's a season).
I am seeing a recurring theme in a lot of the posts- myself included. Many of us know hunters who have hurt our cause either willingly or unknowingly because of their own lack of understanding of either game laws or etiquette. Maybe this blog could be a good source for anyone interested in picking up hunting for the first time, as well as those seasoned hunters who may have forgotten a thing or two.
Yes, Hunting Ethics would be a grand topic to cover.
Here, Here!!
