Just talked with a rep from Kimber and found out that it will take a LONG time to recieve a new 84M Montana in 7mm-08. He suggested that I order the rifle in .308 caliber which is a slightly bigger caliber then what I wanted but I could live with it. The price of the rifle is the same if I was to order it in the .308 caliber versus the 7mm-08, but there is a used .308 model for sale at a local gun shop that is around 150 dollars cheaper. Should I consider the used rifle (a couple of rust spots on the action) or just spend the extra 150$ and get a brand new rifle that has no rust spots or unknown damage to it and I know that its in perfect working condition (hopefully) from the factory? Please comment and help me on this issue. Thanks!
Maybe you can get the gun shop to knock a little more off the price because of the rust? $150 isn't that much more for a factory new gun. The Kimber 84 has been on my wish list for a while now. Good Luck
For that gun, with rust spots on it I have to wonder what else was neglected, and say shell out the extra 150 for a new one. Are there no new 7-08's on gunbroker? A used rifle should feel like a good deal, and a good buy, this one to me does not.
I agree, if it has rust it was neglected at some point. You just don't know the guns history (what it's been thru). And you think a gun shop would either clean it up, or drop more off the price. I'm not a big fan of used guns anyway, there are just to many neglectful owners that don't give a firearm the attention needed. And there's just to many lemons out there. For $150 more you just can't beat that brand new, from the factory feeling. Good luck with your decision.
I have baught both new & used guns, I have been very lucky with both, you just need to know who your buying from and take them down for a full inside & out inspection , dry fire, see if the will let you shoot a few rounds of possible at my Skeet club we buy, sell and trade with each other enough that we know each other very well and we have all been very happy most of the time. Some of the guns I like most were bought used.
i would go with the new one just to be safe, plus 150 bucks isnt that much more for a brand new rifle
If you can find a Kimber 7-08 in a used gun I'd go for it. The art of the "deal" is always in play! Good luck!
A bird in the hand is better than two in the bush...buy the used one. If it's had too many rounds through it, return the rusty one
and WAIT. I've passed on many used pieces and regretted it.
Buy the new .308. I would rather have a .308 instead of a 7MM-08 anyway and I have had them both. There is nothing wrong with the 7MM-08 I am just partial to the .308. If it has rust on the action then the rest of the firearm was probably neglected also. I don't buy used guns. Maybe I let some deals pass me by but I told myself a long time ago that I would not buy someone elses' problems. You have to make that decision yourself and noone can make it for you. $150.00 isn't much of a discount for a firearm that has rust on it. Give it some serious thought.
It's a one time buy, you get what you pay for! I would take the 308 over the 7mm for the availability of ammo alone, but why knocking the 308. Besides, what if you decide to go for Elk!
He'll have to come down more than $150 for a rifle that is not exactly what I want with rust spots on it. If he were $250 to $300 under price of new, we might talk....
get the new one, it's worth the extra money.
