If I had to choose one rifle to do it all; It would be my lever action. Fast handling in tight places, plenty of power(.45/70), and a very reliable action under extreme weather conditions.
I think that this is the...........let's see...........127th time I've seen this question asked on this website.
Nate
i agree with ralph my marlin 30/30 would be my choise if i had to pick just one.
.30-06 bolt action.
.45-70 for woodchucks and possums and .17 HMR for larger game.
WAM-
I'm thinking 420gr solids for reliable penetration;them chucks get a bit "beefy";o)
What are you hunting...where are you hunting...too broad of a question
i agree with Bigwoods to broad a question. but for deer sized game i use a 30.06 for varmint i chosse 204 Ruger, for elk, Africa and bear i got with a brand new 300 Win Mag, for dangerous game i go with a brand new 416 rigby.
I realy enjoyed the posts ment to be humorous!!!!!1 But if your in the Lower 48 30/06 will handle just about every thing. If your after Grizzlies , Polar bear or the Big 5 in Africa there is as Robert Ruark was fond of saying there is no thing as "Too Much Gun"
my fathers remington woodmaster model 742 in 308 shot my first buck with it, my brother has been using it i was lucky enough to get the same exact one for 200 bucks love it!
It all depends on what part of the country I'm in!
I just might use my bow instead!!
What ever you can afford and are comfortable with ...it too depends on what you're huntin'!
DEPENDS ON WHAT, WHERE YOU ARE HUNTING. BUT WITH THE RANGE OF THE BULLETS TODAY IT IS WHAT EVER YOU ARE COMFORTABLE USING. THERE IS NOT A PERFECT GUN THAT EVERYONE WIL AGREE ON.
If I where to choose a rifle for an unknown hunt. It would be my marlin 336w with a 3x9x40 nikon on weaver see thur sites. It cycle quick, and I have the ablity to shoot from a foot to 150 yards by just raising my gun.
i would choose my 30-30 carbine with iron sights
A 7mm mag
Probably the most common and most versatile is a 30-06 with a 3-9x40. Great gun for many species.
either my remington SPS in 300 win mag or my ruger mini 14 6.8mm
I think the best all around rifle is the 30-06. It can take care of any anial you put in front of it.
one made in the usa
308 winchester
How about focus that thought a little more.
....your question is kinda like 'what is the best kind of car to have while you are driving????????????'
I like tom horns gun 30-30 winchester more game has been shot with it than almost any other but the 30/06 and the 308.are very good also. My granddad loved winchester 308 bolt action.
I always go for my Browning M-2 50 cal. mounted on the top of my M-1 Abrams Tank. It has plenty of knockdown power and range! It also reloads really fast for follow up shots! Come on guys, dont ask such silly questions unless you want silly answers. The topic is about as broad as one can be!
The one that you feel confident will do its job.
It depends on what your hunting and were your at and most of all what fells right to you and a good caliber size to fit you.
I took the question to ask what rifle "I" use for hunting...besides just about any rifle could be used for big game with caliber restrictions. A bolt for shoot further then a lever, as a general rule; but ALL rifles have limitations!
