I saw something on tv about that spear hunting. Those guys were really good with em. Maybe they think bow hunting is too easy and want something more challenging? If they are able to humanely put down an animal with it, more power to em. I think it sounds kind of fun. As for turkey hunting with a pistol, that sounds kind of dumb. As for me, I'll keep my gun.

Or, sometimes you just have to ask “why not”. If there is no safety, ethical, or ecological reason to limit hunter’s freedom, why limit it? A rift among hunters is exactly what animal rights activists want. As sportsmen and women that value our hunting and wildlife heritage, we need to support all forms of hunting, whether we participate in that particular sport and season or not. We need to stop the slow and steady erosion of our freedom and hunting heritage.

So, who's gonna kill a deer with a spear...?? Maybe nobody...but it can be done. Spear chucking with a atlatl can provide enough force to bring one down.

Without the atlatl, a spear is only good for thrusting. Unlikely that the average deer is going to be close enough for that, eh?

I just don't envision hordes of hunters going out to buy spears, though.
