I am partial to Toyota 4x4s especially the older 80s models. They are small and nimble and will go almost anywhere. They are also very tough and dependable.
I will only admit this once: I was once a Chevy girl and then my beloved 85 stepside (her name is Bessy) bit the twinkie and I found myself in the heated cab of a 1996 Ford F250 4WD (her name is Lulu) so I switched. Is that bad to switch between makes of trucks? When I was a teenager I drove a Toyota 4WD with six inches of lift.
I drive a '96 Ford F-150 and i like it. It's paid off, got a little rust, and i won't cry if it gets scratched up (though i don't try to beat it up). It's tough, reliable, and has an 8 foot bed that you can fill full of field dressed deer. I would say that any truck is a good truck, chevy, toyota, ford, dodge, whatever. Just get out and hunt. Make sure you keep up with the maintence though, you don't want to be stuck out in the middle of nowhere! Heck, the radio in mine even works!
As far as hunting trucks go, our neighbor got a trophy buck with a 2003 Chevy S10. Of course, it was at 40 MPH on the back road to our area, but the mounted rack is impressive all the same.
Any old willis jeep with decent miitary tires will go anywhere these jacked up monsters will go in style and if you got a pto winch nothing can stop it.
one that runs and your not afraid to get scratched, must have a tailgate that serves as cutting board for goose/rabbitt/fish and hopefully a inner lion now and then! OH heat is good too!
Mine is a 2003 Chevy S-10 Crew Cab 4WD, it gets 25 MPG Hwy, Much less in 4LO, but will hold 2 good sized deer. And 4 People . Although mostly only three go hunting so we can take equipment.

To paraphrase Patrick McManus any truck that belongs to someone else.
