In the May issue, David Petzal reviews the new Model 70. I've re-read it several times, but nowhere in it can I find a mention of the caliber of the one he tested. I'm guessing from the bullet weights mentioned that it's a .30 or some sort. So, what was it?

I'd bet it's a 30.06, most rifle reviews use that caliber since it's the most popular.
I'm thinking 06 too, thought it was in article.
I just bought a .270 wincheser model 70 and I can't get better than 2 inch groups at 100. Anybody else having any luck. I might sell it. Its a featherweight delux. Any ideas?
If I remember correctly Model 70's were never known to be tack drivers. Reliable and durable yes, but 11/2 to 2 " groups is the norm for the Model 70 unless you had it custom barrelled or gunsmithed. I have a stock US Repeating Arms Model 70 in 30-06, and 1.5 to 2 inches is about the best she'll do with an original 3 X 9X Redfield scope. In contrast I have a National Match M1A that I can shoot a hair over 1 MOA at 100 yards with the match peep sights.
