What's It Worth?
What's up with your advertising department?
When paging through an issue of F&S one expects to see ads about guns, ammunition, archery and fishing gear, etc.
When I received my latest copy of your magazine what I saw were ads about growing a bigger penis, alluring photos of women, and an ad for a sex video.
Your choice of sponsers are much better suited to a pornographic magazine. Whoever is leading F&S down this dark path should be fired.
I no longer consider F&S a family friendly magazine. I will no longer allow your magazine in my house and I wont be renewing my subscription until you clean up your act.
Sincerely, Larry Anderson
Larry,
Most here will agree with you but....
1) Tear out the pages
2) The ads target the demographics of the guys who read F&S
3) Though the butt of many jokes, for those who need the medication, it's serious business.
4) Unless you want to pay $5 a subscription, the ads hold the cost down.
Well put SIR.
buckhunter_ Nothing more to be said. Excellent response.+1
I agree with you, I will not be renewing either on the same grounds. I did not know about these FULL PAGE advertisements until I received my subscription in the mail. Everyone has their on opinion that's fine. But, their "are" plenty of other sponsors they could choose from. I think the advertising department is tring to get the most for their money but I also feel they are leaving out what a lot of businesses leave out now days. Respect for all customers, as I've said in another post related to this one. There are other mags for these type of adds. But allot of people just shake it off and say grow up. Ah well, There's allot more to shake off than just those adds, are whole nation is going mad, just look at who we voted in the past years. I'll bet the advertising dept, is a liberal. Sam would turn over in his grave if he new Wal-Mart was Anti Handgun, Pro Gov. Health, and Going Green. There USE to be a time and a place, "now?" Its just a place.
I believe that we have to pick our battles and to me this isn't that important. We have a government that is totally out of control. Our money for people that hate us and for dictators that hold the lives of millions in their hate distorted minds. The placement of erectile dysfunction ads may be distasteful to many and inappropriate to some but right now I fear for the survival of our nation. We are on a path that we may not be able to navigate. Let's take care of the ads later and put our collective energy into dealing with the most inept, corrupt and misguided administration this nation has ever seen.
libertyfist,
I agree it isn't that important on one hand, and a differnt battle all to gether on the other. "I enjoy your posts keep it up." I think complacency starts small and that's why we have a nation in the place its in. We were rocked to sleep over many years one small bill/add at a time.
AndyH-Your right. It does start small and pretty soon it's out of control. Look where we have been taken.
The funny thing is, is that in a earlier issue, there was an article about kids reaing F&S/Outdoor Life. Dont agree with it, but we will all just have to man up about it.
It's not just in our favorite magazines...it's EVERYWHERE! It's in our emails, in our personal mail, on websites, on our TV, on the radio, etc. There's no way to avoid it, but kudos to you for taking some sort of action! It's hard to find people who will fight for what they believe. Our nation has become a bunch of sheep. They grumble under their breath about how something is not right, but then take no action to correct it.
I really don't see where the ads is a major problem. In the sales world you target the demographics that best fit thier product. I agree very much bioguy, if you won't allow F&S in your house, you better toss the tv in the garbage too.
I dont particularly enjoy these ads, but i have respect for the f&s editors and respect their decisions. It isnt that big of a deal. As buck_hunter said, there are steps you can take. F&s must have sponsors to pay the bills, and they have their reasons for choosing these. I dont think they go out and look for e d sponsors, but these ads pay the bills for them. If it werent for all these sponsors, the price of the mag would sky rocket. I just counted, and there are, believe it or not, 96 non sex related ads. These include all the tiny corner ads, and all of the property ads in the back. You know how many e d ads there are?5!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!there are 5 and you are un subscribing? that is EXTREMELY childish. You are unsubscribing to the BEST outdoors mag because of 5 ads that you dont agree with!!!! Check page: 1,3,4,6,7,8,11,12,13,14,15,17,20, and so forth. You know why you cant see the numbers? BECAUSE THEY ARE COVERED WITH CLEAN ADS!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!They use 5 sex sponsors. The rest are the likes of: chevy, yamaha, remington, rokon, wrangler, chunky, red head, michelin, discovery channel, vado, ati, outdoor channel. If your going to complain about a lack of valuse, the throw out your tv, radio, your kids xbow, all other magazines, and move to the artic circle, cuz thats the only place where you can find your little utopia of morales.
Geez, I'm 58 and never noticed these ads till someone bitched about it a couple months ago. Who cares? Read the mag and skip the ads.
Boy, a person takes a stand for what they believe in and you think thats childish. You know Mr. Unchildish, Your loud exclamations make me feel like a new born. The best mag is a matter of opionon.
anti-utopia) is the vision of a society in which conditions of life are miserable and characterized by poverty, oppression, war, violence, disease, pollution, the abridgement of human rights, resulting in widespread unhappiness, suffering, and other kinds of pain.
Which comes form people not having rules of good conduct or lack of standard for moral behavour.
Like it or not, it starts small.
No such thing as Utopia when you have poeple like me and the postman around. You will have your Utopia when we are removed from the list of subscribers. That way you want have to listen to us whine like little children who can't handle that field and stream just has so much trouble finding other sponsers for there 10 pages of worthless tripe turning what you think is no problem into what will become a big problem in the near future. I consider F&S as being one of the best outdoor mags of the past. If they return to there roots, then I will give it ago agian. I think the problem is that newage collage kooks are taking over the businesses.
LA--- I think the ads for sex aids are a bit rediculous too, but really now gentlemen do you really find it offensive enough to stop buying a magazine? Do you stop viewing a TV channel with all the similar commercials? This magazine sells ads to make money, inpart,to keep subscription costs down, and face it there is a market for this stuff.
The adds are in poor taste. The least they should do is limit the graphic display of foreplay and require the ads to be script only. If you can't read or need diagrams to figure out sex, you shouldn't reproduce in the first place.
Buckhunter in definitely on to something though.
Well-said ranger2, LOL
I understand, the concept "Rip it out" and I do. I agree Sex sells and it’s everywhere. As far as TV I turn the channel when I have TV, same with Internet, I choose not to go places I shouldn't. I expect to see it in many places because it is commonplace now days. I understand there is a market for it, and I don't disagree that some people may need a pill to increase their sex drive. What I don't understand is why field and stream has to paint pictures, I have Field and Stream Mags from over 15 years ago they had prostate and increase your love life adds. But they were more tasteful. I know some of you don't understand my thinking, that’s okay. I don't understand some of your thinking, but I do understand where you are coming from and why you say tare it out or grow up. So, if your angry with a back woods hillbilly like me just remember I can't help it. I was born in California and Raised in Arkansas and glad of it. Freedom, Praise God for it, if we didn't have it we would all be robots. God Bless
I agree with u there, andyh. They shouldnt put the pics in, but I think unsubscribing is a bit drastic. I just flip the page and dont look at them because its NOT A BIG DEAL. If we all want to be mature sportsmen, we should just turn the page and read about rifles and flies. i think jim in mo and ralph the rifleman said it best. Although i do agree that these new colledge employees are partly to blame.
Thanks AndyH!
I appreciate your thoughts, and others here too...
the ads do not particularly offend me- they make me chuckle a little, but my primary concern with them is the diversity of the readership of the magazine. I think that the ads could be there and target the proper demographic without setting a sleazy tone in the back of the mag for the youngsters that browse the pages. When my kids are old enough to appreciate the publication, I DO want them to read it, but I DO NOT want them to be negatively influenced by the graphic nature of the advertising, in such a great all around magazine. But if it comes to it, I will have to edit the editorial with my pocket knife before they get to peruse its final pages~
I think that some of you are not getting it. What happens when your daughter picks up the magazine and starts asking you about these adds or photos. My daughter loves looking at my hunting magazines and I really don't want to think that the slutty girls in the pictures are ok.
I understand I cannot shield my daughter from the things of this world. She will see plenty of bad taste and bad stereotypes, but I also understand there is no need for these unsavory pictures in many mags like F&S. I should not have to think about it, but I do. I will raise my daughter with the best teaching that I can teach her, and if all goes well she will understand what these types of pictures instill in minds, and to avoid that stereotype. I see that many people have an obvious concern about it other wise they would not have taken time to post their comments. Sometimes taking a stand induces the guilty to retaliate with name calling of childish fits. I'm glad we can talk about it here without that, for the most part I find that most people are mature about this subject. We can disagree with what is commonplace. I see many teens follow the crowd, I hope that we can teach our daughter to live modestly and shamefaced. That will take allot of prayer.
Your right andyh.I did over react a bit much and i apologize. Its your business what you read so Im sorry.Did u hear bout the 11 year old boy huntin accident on here? my prayers are with that family.
libertyfirst...the guy just wants offensive ads removed from the magazine that sits on his coffee table, not fix the world! But speaking of such, and battles chosen, the devil's in the details. Win the battles and you'll win the war.( Vietnam, notwithstanding )
A lot of what you're worried about has come from the loosening of ethics and morals. I do sometimes cringe at the thought that if my Grandfather was still alive and he opened up one of his favorite magazines today....I know, the magazines have to pay the bills. So do I and there are limits as to what I'll do to pay them.
Yes, the demographics. But seriously, if the problem is that serious, will you look for your solution there? What happened to doctors? If my groups start expanding to 2" at 100 yds., I'm not going to ask my doctor whats wrong!
Have you ever noticed how people vote in relation to what they are drawn too!
