Backlash and Blowback

In the Hot Seat with Asian Carp

Uploaded on January 26, 2010

Isn't it ironic that one of the states with the smallest amount of lakefront and the least to lose now has the greatest impact on Asian carp getting into the Great Lakes?

No matter who was originally to blame for Asian carp getting into the Mississippi, the weight of history will fall on the politicians and transport businesses of Illinois and Chicago, and the Corp of Engineers. That includes obama, who is opposed to taking drastic measures. Go ahead, put this into committee and study it to the death of the ecosystem.

Absolutely right. All the great lake states and provinces, except Illinois, are on board for closing the locks.

If something is not done and done effectivley, this could have abigger impact on not just the eco system, but comercial fishing, charter fishing, and public fishing, as well as boat use both pleasure boating and more...

drastic measures, well it is already in place, maybe if "obama" was taken out on a ride in which he gets knocked in the head or one of those girls while boating he too would see the seriousness of this invasion of evasive fish...

MLH, thanks again for the info on Ruffle grouse stuff!

Have the carp destroyed the fish populations in the Mississippi River? Did the carp which inhabit so much of the US end fishing as we know it? I'm no fan of exotic species but sometimes the cure is worse than the disease. We are probably just going to have to get used to the new and improved ecological balance that will occur. Don't forget those brown trout from Germany, and apple trees and all the other exotics like honey bees.
