"This isn't just about the partisan activists on the left or right. It's about an ever-growing sense on the part of regular Americans that their government isn't just clueless about their priorities and the realities of their lives; worse, they're beginning to believe that elected officials hold them and their views in outright contempt."

It's not a party thing, either.

Someone on here had a nice quote, starting with:

"If republicans and democrats both are against higher taxes, then why do we have higher taxes..."

Very few elected officials even keep a line on their area to even pretend to know and care what their voters believe on an issue.

We need to get rid of "lobbyist" and "Put term limit on every thing from the dog catcher to the senators" make them accountable to the People again. Washington chose not to run the third time because he did not want to be a king. Yet with have senators in over 40 years because of no term limits. Their constituents are no longer the People. They are groups like ACLU or ACORN thier are thousands if not 10's of thousands of lobbyist that influance our Government we do not count unless we stop this.
