I find how pathetic Sportsmen can take things for granted.

Uploaded on March 19, 2010

I find how pathetic Sportsmen can take things for granted. When at home they turn on their lights, water, flush the toilet, trash to be picked up weekly, food on the shelves at the local store and gas at the station and this is all taken for granted. At this moment one of the States I believe its North Carolina is preparing a bill to amend their State Constitution the right to HUNT. Mr. Jacob asked will logging ruin hunting? To properly answer this question depends on how you look at this question. Sure, logging does in fact improve the habitat for wildlife, but it’s the politics after the fact is the real impact it will have. Will better access be available, the same or will the region be put off limits all together? Those who answered the question only had one point of view but as an avid Sportsman there is more to it than one can ever imagine! Already Chicago-style gun ban has taken place in Ozark National Forest and now a ban for Off Road Vehicle is about to become law in the Ouachita National Forest.

People voted for change and they got it!

I tell my students in my hunter education classes that if hunting progresses the next 50 years like it has the last 50 years when they are my age there will be no hunting. I firmly believe this. You are right hunters only worry about themselves and forget the people ,some of them their relatives that follow them. I want to do everything that I can to protect hunting because I have 2 grandsons who love to hunt and love the outdoors. It really bothers me that someday they may not be able to enjoy hunting like I have done.

Mr Rexrode Sir, you’re absolutely right, I used very strong words but the truth of the matter, fewer and fewer every year will take up the fight and we are losing ground. I just hope and pray there is a Young One in the group who has the fire in the belly and perseverance to learn the ways of old and to take up the fight! When I retired from the Air Force back in 95, I wasn't in the position to take on anymore classes. I'm hoping things will pick up at work so I can once again start teaching again.

Already I have an avid Hunter at the age of 10 who has smoked his Hunter Safety Coarse and already is an outright Sportsman. The season before last(age 9) he understood what it really meant to be out there and enjoying what God has gave us instead of just limiting out which has become the norm. This coming season will be Alex’s 4th season and his Sister now age 8 will be joining us and good golly is she a shooter!

They should ban all off road vehicles in the national forrests, and allow only horses and electric golf carts for the disabled/handicap ....There's nothing like siting in your tree stand on a nice chilly morning with your gun ready, sipping some strong coffee, watching squarrels and birds all up in the trees, the smell of heavy dew on the leaves, waiting for a nice big buck to walk by,its alomost heaven,,UNTIL !!,,,billy bubba the redheaded redneck child comes flying up the dirt trail about 1/2 a mile from you in his jacked up ford bronco with glass pack muffler or open pipes, slinging gravel all over the place, with the radio going boom boom boom loud enough to frighten children in japan to death...followed by 3-4 of his idiot friends in various other jacked up vehicles with rattling bumpers, and mufflers that sound like sick bumble bees, blairing their boom boom boom radios....and then they all meet up about 3/4 mile away, park and hang out for 3 hrs booming their radios....until they decide to travel farther up the trail....So now your precious 4 hours from sunrise to 10am when the deer are usually active have been ruined by idiots playing mad max the road warrior........As you stand there packing up your gear for your mile hike back to your camp, you think about how much time you spent getting ready, picking a nice spot, cover scenting your clothes, creeping out to your spot slowly and quietly before daylight following the reflective dots you put up the day before just to have all your hard work ruined by bunch of yahoo heathens in pickup trucks.....

First of all, why are you sitting up your treestand along HWY75 downtown Atlanta in the first place instead of getting back into the woods, you're going to get traffic!

Key word, pay attention here SON!

The word is "REMOTE" as in "REMOTE" location!!!

re·mote

1. far apart; far distant in space; situated at some distance away: the remote jungles of Brazil.

2. out-of-the-way; secluded: a remote village; a remote mountaintop.

3. distant in time: remote antiquity.

4. distant in relationship or connection: a remote ancestor.

5. operating or controlled from a distance, as by remote control: a remote telephone answering machine.

6. far off; abstracted; removed: principles remote from actions.

7. not direct, primary, or proximate; not directly involved or influential: the remote causes of the war.

8.slight or faint; unlikely: not the remotest idea; a remote chance.

9. reserved and distant in manner; aloof; not warmly cordial.

Get the picture George or you to just trolling around!

Drinking Coffee, that will spook deer like having the presence of Rosie O'Danald!

And speaking of Deer, my Ol'Friend just last season shot the record Buck for his County from his front porch after he jumped online first for his hunting license! What can I say about this New Yorker refuge, if he had dial up he would still be waiting for his license to process and the Buck would of been gone!! LOL :)

Your going to find that BIG BUCK in the most nastiest and gnarliest place. So leave the coffee and grab a couple bottled water and walk! You will find more deer along a main road just 100 yards in along a utility line than anywhere else. Hunting pressure kicks up, the deer move to the populated areas, there not stupid!!!

GERG Excellent point and a +1 for both! Arkansas has some of the best opportunities to Hunt & Fish! Bow season opens October 1st and runs thru February 28th and then you have rifle and muzzle loader season giving the working Person plenty of time to hit the woods. Now take Alaska where I lived there for four years, Caribou Season opens August 1st then September 1st Moose, Sheep and Grizzly opens. But the problem here, all your hunting is open and closed before you know it.

Now as far as the subject of Redneck, I dare any fool to call me a Redneck in front of my Grandson 10 year old Alex he will pin back your ears no joke! I don’t drive a trashed out truck, don’t smoke, go to Church every Sunday and as for having “a” beer, you have a better chance of getting hit by lightning or winning the lottery. And I do carry trash bags in both my truck and ATV to pick up after some bottom feeder after we shoot a few holes in the cans!

But the bottom line to

"WE MUST BE STEWARDS OF OUR BEAUTIFUL STATES"

Instead of someone just running their mouth, you got to fight for it and not to be some PC Rambo taking sniping shots and character assassination behind a key board. I occasionally call my Representatives on Capitol Hill although knowing full well they hold my interests at heart, but to let them know there’s grass roots out here supporting their efforts. A few months ago, I spotted my Congressman walking around a local Gun Show by himself unescorted. A couple of guys behind the table I was looking at a rifle said, I dare some SOB to try something! Fact of the matter, that Congressman was safer there than being on Capitol Hill!

Don't like Arkansas, then don't come to fish the White River!

Exactly and ATV's cause noise pollution, spook game and destroy trails causing erosion. For the most part it is not hunters that destroy the trails or run around where it is off limits but non-hunters on labor day from what I have seen..It would not hurt my feelings one bit to outlaw ATV's in alot of places except for game retrieval during the hours of 11 am and 3 pm

Let me tell you something hengst, if you think just because a couple of bad apples do something, everyone else has to pay for your petty party! If you can't find a place to hunt in solitude, you haven't been looking much! As far as you saying the banning of ATV's? Hell lets go with banning cigarettes and beer too and while were at it, you have to pass a competency course in marksmanship, wouldn't hurt my feelings! But you know something fella, your not the only one on this planet and the universe doesn't revolve around you! as far as ATV's causing noise pollution, spook game and destroy trails causing erosion? Only a very few places this holds true and far as spooking game, if you slow down and pay attention to the trail ahead of you, you will watch deer jump just 30 to 50 feet off the trail and disappear and as soon as you roll by, up comes there head! As for those who are doing wrong, there far and few in between and when I do catch them, I do something about it!

Bottom line, if three days of Labor Day weekend bother you, you need to stay home, stop smoking, no more booze and take up crocheting hengst!

Now since the riffraff as been taken care of, back to Sir Stephen D. Rexrode and Sir GERG. Both of you are so right. The biggest problem I find is there is so much interrival and fighting among Sportsmen. From ATV’s to Crossbows to trapping just to name three, everyone has to come together in one voice to let those opponents hear and know there are more of us than them. As for hunting, I find if I just walk up on the ridge 1/4 to 3/4 the way up to the top, I'll find that buck that has been pushed off the top or bottom because that’s where everyone else is at and backstrap will soon be on the table!

Mr Rexrode, I second what you say. I've spent countless hours on the range, in the field and in class rooms promoting hunting and other sports activities including Law Enforcement. But I too wonder if trying to save what’s left is actually worth it. Take last year during the Crossbow debate, it got downright nasty. I defended those who wish to use a Crossbow as much as with any other equipment used. I don’t own a Crossbow and don’t plan on buying one except perhaps later for the Grand Kids. But the bottom line, I always defended everyone’s right as users of the outdoors.

Ozark Hunter tell us a little about your likes and dislikes. Let me guess-you like to shoot targets and never miss. You've seen hundreds of grizzly bears (not a herd animal) yet you never took a shot. You served in the military and all the officers was idiots. You handload and YOUR guns all get fantastic velocity with risque powder charges. Did I miss something? Hahahahaha

Clay ..Nice pathetic attempt at a personal attack...I never said that I could not find a place to hunt in solitude...I was mearly proposing an opposing view...BTW I no longer smoke and don't drink..You are also not the only perosn on this universe so if my wanting to ban ATV's bothers you and I cannot voice that opinion then you obviously feel that you are the only one on this planet...If you can't move your large, fat, redneck tailend down the trail and up the hill then stay home and crotchet Clay or have a pitty party about hunters taking things for granted i.e ATV to move the lard somewhere else

007, that's a very good point that I to have witnessed! GERG is right about Arkansas is a Sportsman's dream, but it was the complacency of Sportsmen who got us into this position!!

"....ban for Off Road Vehicle is about to become law in the Ouachita National Forest."

"WE MUST BE STEWARDS OF OUR BEAUTIFUL STATES"

Exactly and ATV's cause noise pollution, spook game and destroy trails causing erosion. For the most part it is not hunters that destroy the trails or run around where it is off limits but non-hunters on labor day from what I have seen..It would not hurt my feelings one bit to outlaw ATV's in alot of places except for game retrieval during the hours of 11 am and 3 pm

For those of you who don't know about this Militia meeting. It's a group of Individuals, Professionals and politicians forming a National Militia Group to protect and to promote the 2nd Amendment. It is in noway the kind of Militia you hear about meeting in the woods someplace dressed in camo and armed to the teeth planing to take on the Government.
