What's It Worth?
"Over the weekend, still another outpost was attacked in the distant reaches of Afghanistan, and still more American soldiers -- and Afghan ones -- were lost. An undermanned and overstretched international force struggles on in that graveyard of empires. And waits for word from Washington. And waits and waits. ... All wait to see what course the president will choose, or will let others choose for him. In the meantime he dithers -- and Americans fight and die." --columnist Paul Greenberg
BO has three choices. One is to escalate the war by sending more soldiers over. The second is to bring them home. Bringing them home at this point will be a victory for the Afghans. Sending more troops will turn his campaign promise into a lie. The third choice is to do nothing. The third choice is his safe bet because he is still able to blame the deaths on the prior administration.
My opinion. Finish the job and do it right. Don't let our guys be out numbered.
We've been in Afghanistan since before the aspirin factory’s were bombed. This president promised a strategy in Afghanistan while campaigning, also promised to go after Osama bin, but hasn't. All he really cares about right now is getting a Healthcare bill jammed down our throats, and causing the US dollar to fall. I'm sorry but it sounds as though he is on the Afghans side to me. Just my insight. But it sounds like it really is now going to be like a Vietnam because he is dragging his feet and voting present. I did not care for allot of Bush's polices but at least he was a leader that would make decisions based on the Ground Solders input not on the press and photo opps!
P.S. Dragging feet means our Solders Die! OBAMA LIES SOLDERS DIE!
The Gen in charge ask's for 40,000 more or "we're" in trouble.
what does he get 13.000. NICE MATH BO !
Hey Liberty, just wanted to touch base on that action. I sent you my gunsmiths mailing info via E-mail. Let me know if you received it and if ya need anything else.
Ok, let's say you were in your home, a man comes in and has total control over you. You can not stand up against him because he is more powerful that you. He starts taking a way everything you have, your possessions, your dignity, and you freedom. And you can not do a single thing about it. Would you want some one to come a save you from this dictator? This is what the people that we are helping overseas feel every day. They want us to save them, and we need to.
honestly i think if wqe leave afganistan then all that war will just be brought over the borders right here in the U.S. of A.
i couldnt agree more with fluger +1 for you.
this war was not designed to be won instantaneously nor will it be, we are establishing a solid government in these countries the same way comunist dictators establish dominance in other countries, slowly you cant expect to go in and change a nation in a matter of 5 to 10 years it takes time your not going to change the minds of the older generations you must start withe the younger generations, effect the way they live and theyle remember that, and they will be changed by it, and they will be the future leaders that take the country dow the right path. it takes persistance its not a mcdonalds drive through.
Liberty,
You should not hate the MILITARY, we are only doing the job we are told to fight. You should hate the government for not doing its job! You sound like a Vietnam protester and I am only 22 years old. Please do not start that stuff again. I do not want to experience that.
usmcturkey,
When is your ETS date? Are you enlisting for another four years or you getting out? Let me know and I probably come see you at Camp Lejeune someday!!!
Rudy I am getting out in May, though it could be soon or later. From the IED I have been have seizures in my right hand and TBI symtoms becoming more prevolent. So I am undergoing testing and may get medically retired. Either way we are staying in the area because I am trying to get a job with my command on the civilian side. I wish I could have gave you some of that gator it sure was good.
I am a veteran and proud that I had the chance to serve. I dislike seeing our people in uniform put in harms way based on faulty reasoning. Afghanistan is the rock on which empires have broken. We are never going to somehow impose democracy and post modernism on people who would still rather have their sons memorize the Koran than learn to read. So why are we there? As a veteran I know the "We're Here because We're Here because We're here" song only too well. If the idea was to waste Bin Laudin, I'm good with that, waste the b-stard and all his towel headed buddies. I'm good with Revenge for 9-11, but irradicating opium? how long DO we plan to hang around. We will only get our hands dirty trying to "Nationbuild" in a tribal place like the 'Ghan. It might be better to have a Pushtun state and a Hazzara state and a Turkoman state rather than to try to encourage a stable national government in Kabul.
Obama is kinda stuck, I agree. The 'Ghan woulda been over fdor us years ago if the war profiteers hadn't decided they could fleece the taxpayers so much more effectively in Iraq (after all Iraq is nearly ideal for modern warfare, being mostly flat, but Afghanistan is entirely mountains!) We should find a way to declare victory and get out of there before we get skunked, (it worked for Dubya). I just don't really see anything tangible to be gained by stretching out a war where we can win all the battles and still loose the war
usmcturkey,
Thanks for the offer and I know it was finger licking good, I bet...
You have 96 coming up for Veterans Day, Are you going out of town or staying home in Jacksonville?
Unfortuatly I do not really get a 96. Tuesday we have our Birthday cake cutting ceramony in the morning and then get off that afternoon. Wednesday is my birthday ball, and thursday is my recovery day from the ball. Then I am back to work on Friday so there is not much time over this 96 or I would say come on down and visit maybe some time soon though.
usmcturkey,
I wish I could come down soon enough but I have been busy with work and College classes!!!I have a break coming up on Thanksgiving and I be out of town that week...I will be at Fayetteville Technical Community College on Veterans Day Celebration...Applebees is offering free lunch to veterans and Golden Corral is doing it at 4:00 pm to 9:00 pm for free dinner. They have the best food just for the Veterans that day and it was great to network with fellow Veterans.
