Quick Tips
The President of the United States today called out an officer of the law as having acted "stupidly". This particular case has not been tried in court and the facts have not been fully presented to the public. The only facts that are common knowledge is that the arresting officer is white and the man arrested was black. Is it appropriate for the standing President to be making this comment? Does it in some way show racial bias on the part of our President? Would it be appropriate for a white president to call a black officers actions stupid?
The only one that acted stupidly is the president for spouting off before the facts were in and the professor who didn't have the decency to talk respectfully and comply with the police officer's requests.
BHO is starting to show is true colors and people that voted for CHANGE do not like it now,i wish for change in the way of changing presidents NOW!!!!!
It is as appropriate as wearing a white gown and a pointy white hood to an ACLU convention.
The democrats have chosen the appropriate mascot: the Jack*ss. The inspiration for the mascot must currently be the incumbent.
This is why I didn’t pursue Law Enforcement, always someone using the race card because they learned it works!
Yes the Officer should have turned and left once the identification was made regardless, but for the other individual I have no respect for him being for who he is, judge not a man from the color of his skin but from the content of his character!
Just think if, if the Officer knowing the house was owned by this individual and a 911 call came and nobody showed and his daughter was raped and his wife killed!
Would you blame the next 911 call and no one shows!
Is it worth it!!
The Telepromter of the United States is just like Jessse Jackson, THE Reverend Al, and the rest. The only facts that are important is that the alleged "victim" was black and the alleged "offender" was white. What more do you need to assess guilt?
Buck Ofama and the horse he rode in on.
Let's nor abuse a good horse !
The Dems are beginning to show that they know the facts. They don't need evidence to support their view. See Gobal Warming, gun control, health care, tax policy, racism, etc, etc.
It was highly inappropriate and the political fallout will be well deserved. Who elected this idiot?
About 48 Million other idiots!
No Moishe...48 Million citizens that "VOTED STUPIDLY"
Oh..I don't agree with the BO's statment either; unless he was there and witnessed the whole thing?
Must this President comment on EVERYTHING??
Yes, he must comment on everything. He's an activist, you know. If he were white, he'd be called a racist.....
I was listening to Obama on the news and without his teleprompter for what to say by the speech puppeteers he was a train wreck!
He should of said, I’m sure it’s under proper investigation and not to get involved, but that’s the way it goes!
And yes I’m prejudice as it gets!
You don’t cross a street without looking both ways!
You don’t reach to grab a handful of french-fries while frying in cooking oil!
Prejudice is knowing that 2 + 2 = 4 not 5 or not 3!
Prejudice is to know the difference between right and wrong!!
I’m sick and tired of it all!!!
One more thing
During my trucking adventures, I had a student who was the President of a small advertisement company that went dormant and planned to stay dormant for an unspecified amount of time. Everyone was laid off and he needed to make cash fast and decided to see the Country! He said I was the best Instructor he ever came across.
Did I mention he said was Black?
And yes race was brought up a many times in the 4 weeks out but only in an intellectual way and he too like me was sick and tired of it!
yeah that was a bonehead move on his part. I think he let pesonal feelings and a friendship get in the way of the truth. We have all done it but it is still inapporpriate and such a high profile person should have thought before he acted.
OOPS I forgot about my other student, before he started to make his right hand turn to make a delivery, he told me to be quiet because after 3 days out he knew what he was doing. GE”YEP! He did alright while making his right hand turn he cut the corner to sharp dropping the trailer into the ditch with 38,000 pounds of glass jars and had the audacity to blame me for it that I was racist! Can anyone point out how a Whiteman sitting silent cause such an accident?
We dropped the trailer and the next stop I dropped him at the terminal then the next day he plea bargained and was back on and apologized. Later that day, he fail asleep at the wheel, swerved into the left lane causing a car to avoid collision drove into the median no accident or damage and the driver was pregnant and later I found he did the same thing with the previous trainer!
So the question is, how far do we allow the race card to be played before some is hurt or killed!
Justice is blind to race, sex, and social status. the truth is all that should matter. how do you explain to a blind man what a black man, white man, asian man, hispanic man, or a green man looks like. he wouldnt care, he can only tell the true character of a person.
The comment was stupid, but I kinda wonder how a guy that was identified as the owner of the house got arrested for being there...
I don't think he got identified as the owner of the house until after he got himself arrested. For being a Harvard prof. I am not sure he is too bright.
I believe he got arrested for not respecting or cooperating with the Police officers who were responding to a 911 call for a break in. By his own admission, he had to break in his own home. This was misconstrued by his neighbors. We all know if you deal with Cops in a respectful and pleasant tone, we do better than if you are rude, loud or challenging in any way. Appently the professor did not know this. He was arrested because he acted like an idiot instead of calmly stating "I live here, here's my ID"
it was toatally inaprobriate and it was based on race bioas the fact is that the presendent want there and should have said nothin cause his vocice makes a big difference in peoples opinion and it seems like the professor was actin stubid hge freaked out at the officer for doin his job

Some people are only 'book smart' and don't possess much in the area of common sense. I think a little of that has happened with this situation. But I also think there has definitely been some racism. "Can't we all just get along?"
Being rude isn't illegal. He identified himself, and that is all that is required by law.
Shane, i agree, being rude, or even politically incorrect, isn't illegal, but often it will still get you locked up. Of course the charges were dropped in this case, but would that happen if it were me or you? Keep in mind when dealing with police...THEY WANT TO LOCK YOU UP! Power-trippers. Only way to defuse it is keep your head.
"THEY WANT TO LOCK YOU UP! Power-trippers."
Wow. Finally someone that's with me and realizes that cops aren't all great benevolent beings with public safety first in mind anymore. They also assume that there is always a good reason for all cops' actions. Not always so, in many cases, they will come up with anything to bust someone. They get bored and make some trouble for themselves to "clean up". Nowadays, it's mostly just testosterone charged compensator types looking for someone to mess with. Best example I can give: If you report domestic violence across the street, they'll be there in a half an hour or so, way too late. If you report a party or something involving college students across the street, they will be there in a flash and in numbers. When there is serious business and people in danger, they hesitate. If there are some kids they can intimidate and bust, they're on it like white on rice.
+1 Shane.
Lets keep in mind that like any profession you will find some bad apples.
Agreed, but it seems like the bad apple density is at record highs the last half decade or so.
I am not a cop but know firsthand what these guys deal with on a daily basis. Most deserve the benefit of a doubt.
I may be in the minority here but I have never seen a situation where I thought that a law enforcement office was out of line. I believe that when a officer is forceful and dynamic in his approach to a situation he is only projecting what he has been taught. He is supposed to be in charge and that is to diffuse a potentially difficult situation. Confrontations are few a far apart for me but I believe that respect and consideration for the job being done is half of the battle.
President Obama is the head of the executive branch of the government. As such he is the leader of both the military and of Law Enforcement and if anybody gets the right to criticise a subordinate it would be the President. As I have posted otherwheres, this episode makes everyone involved look bad...
Gates should have stayed calm and showed the officer some respect and the officer should not have arrested him for being "disorderly" in his own house. "Disorderly conduct" is one of those vague charges cops seem to use when they want an excuse to arrest someone so they can humiliate them when they don't actually have an actual crime to charge for. So Gates was an idiot for mouthing off and the cop busted him basicly because he wanted to. Stupid. Obama was right. The whole mess is Stupid and too much time has been wasted over it.
What the heck is Disorderly conduct anyway? Making a scene in public? or irritating policemen. Remember if we make being a smarta$$ illegal we will not have large enough prisons or guards enough to watch everyone who would deserve the sentence.
And what is this grousing about the majority of Americans who voted our president into office? You don't like Democracy now because your guy lost? So the Majority of Americans are "stupid" and should be prohibited from voting? Sounds like sour grapes dude, if you aren't willing to countenance that the Majority Rules in a Democracy well there are still dictatorships out there you can go experience. A lot of us had to swallow hard and deal with it during the misrule of the last administration, and if you don't like what the will of the people decided, well there is the next election for you to get ready for in a couple years.
Actually many many people have thought the majority of Americans to be stupid, it isn't an uncommon sentiment, but democracy is democracy, "the worst system ever invented, except for all the others" (Winston Churchill, I believe).
Gates had already called in a break previously and when the concerned citizen called with a potential second, how can Crowley respond except with his guard up? Crowley was simply doing his job in a difficult situation, following protocol. I understand Gates being upset, but all that he had to do was remain calm and answer questions as asked and when asked and all would have ended well. Instead his response was along racial lines"this is what happens to black men". Tough to deal with in your own home but absolutely necessary. Gates blew it.
Obama should have kept his mouth shut! It did no good for him to call an officer of the law stupid when he knew virtually nothing about the case except that his personal friend was involved. He took the racist line and no one can legitimately deny that fact. You're guilt because your white-come on!! The only one who acted stupidly here is our incompetent president.
