I've had it with your left wing rag!

Uploaded on April 18, 2009

I am canceling my subscription after your latest left wing enviro-nut global warming article! I have been hunting and fishing all my life and no one loves the outdoors more than I do. And I realize the need to take care of it. But one must use some common sense. I have hunted and found more game right beside gas wells, pipe lines, power towers and logging roads. There is enough room for widelife, hunters and energy companies getting the energy we need to survive in a responsible way. I notice your articles take every opertunity to badmouth Bush, no political agenda there! Address climate change? Yes let us sportsmen take a few minutes from our day and change the entire climate and weather patterens of the planet earth that has been doing everything on its own for millions of years!! But now the liberals are here to take over and fix everything with laws and taxes. Give Me A Break!!

Good riddance. Idaho is a toxic sewer as a result of Bush and his

I am simply amazed at what this magazine has become. Last month your "Global warming must be real because I remember it was colder as a kid" article and this month another "must stop global climate change" article. Throw in a little "Bush and his henchmen is evil" bent and you've really managed to piss me off. You're going to feel very silly when this man-made global climate hysteria is proven out to be based on no scientific data.

In this day and age of print publications going the way of the dodo you should consider who your audience is (in my case a PhD physicist) and understand that you have no credibility in this arena and we don't depend on you for this sort of information. I just renewed in November and can expect my cancellation letter via separate correspondence.

"..based on NO scientific data." where'd you get your PhD? Devry?
Fact: We have dumped BILLIONS of TONS of CO2 into the atmosphere in the past 100 years.
Fact: We have depleted huge amounts of O2 producing vegetation in the past 100 years.
Fact: We've polluted streams, rivers, and oceans, some to the point of devastation, in the past 100 years.
Fact: Yes, the Earth has managed just fine for millions of years, but that was before we became "industrialized".

I would love to live in your fantasy world where none of these FACTS could POSSIBLY have a detrimental effect on the environment. You all must be smokin' some GOOOOOOOOD Sh**!!!!

from jlfreeborn wrote 5 years 11 hours ago

GAE is right. I'm an environmental science major getting ready to complete my junior year. Have we dumped tons of CO2? yes. Is it making the earth get hot? Nobody knows. THe only consensus among the scientific community is that the earth has gotten a tad warmer in the last 30 years or so. It's gotten warmer so many more times in history, and everything turned out to be ok. I think this is more of a political thing myself, designed to make a one-world government. The big fuss over global warming is based on little scientific data, and a lot opinion of very powerful people (Al Gore). I could rant more, but I'm done.

By the way, I just renewed my subscription this week, so I haven't gotten any magazines in like 3 months. I would like to see those articles though.

The only reason I have a subscription is because I bought a new hunting coat and by doing so got a free subscription.

I would agree with everyone above me, I dont want to read opinion pieces on the enviroment. If your going to write pieces like that, put in scientific data from various studies.

While I am ranting about the quality of the magazine, I see no point in having the subscripton to your magazinge. Most of the articles are released on the website beforehand, or you just take pictures from the website and use in the magazine. And in the latest mag, you have an article about fishing on the mississippi river, that whole journey was covered last year on the website. Please put different info in the magainzine and dont recycle articles from the website.

@ Tx4ever

Obviously you are new to this blog or you would not have made your last statement.

I guess I'll have to go back and read the 'Baiting Deer' article. I guess anything about baiting deer is offensive to you Texans since that is the only way it seems that you hunt down there, at least by TV accounts.

I think hunting over bait is the most boring and "non-hunting" way to shoot deer. I get invited fairly often to hunt in Texas and Canada - over bait or food plots. I politely decline. Sitting in a shooting house all day has no appeal to me at all. But if it is your gig, then enjoy it.

+4 Good Comment? | | Report
from Tx4ever wrote 4 years 51 weeks ago

Baiting has and still is being harshly debated. I guess were about as split as Reps and Dems, Just be careful what you wish for. It could turn out if you happen to kick a couple of acorns together on your next "Mtnhunt" your hunting over bait.In Texas we hunt many different ways, Every thing here can bite you ,cut you ,scratch you, or sting you, As far as outdoorsman go id put Texans against anyone.

-2 Good Comment? | | Report
from WA Mtnhunter wrote 4 years 51 weeks ago

Nobody was debating whether Texans were outdoorsmen par excellence, or not. Just don't tell me I have a "hide your head in the sand" theory or attitude. So split it however you want to, dude. Get out and hunt or sit on your fat ass in a shooting house all day. That is what is wonderful about hunting (within the confines of the rules of course), you can do it however you like.

The liberals in my state got bear baiting and hound hunting on the ballot and got it banned in an election. While I voted against the voter initiative banning such methods on the basis of allowing the Wildlife Commission to do their job and set the rules and not let the liberals in Seattle run things from the ballot box, I personally am glad bear baiting is gone in Washington. Strangely enough, deer baiting is legal but I don't know one soul who does it.

Some folks can't be critical or disagree without name calling or personal insults. That just shows a deficit in reasoning skills.

I apologize to "Tx4ever" for referring to sitting on one's "fat a$$" in a shooting house without reservation. I meant to express my opinion that sitting in a stand or shooting house (as often depicted in hunting shows) over bait is not my cup of tea. It really has nothing to do with sportsman-like or not.

For the other bloggers that jumped in with the name calling and personal insults; I just bet you wouldn't talk to someone like that without the safety and anonymity of the internet and your computer screen. I been to Texas twice and the Texans are welcome to it. I am a Yankee of good Down East stock, I lived other places but I had to come back to New England. When the recent ruckus about Texas secession came up my attitude was sure! Go right ahead! I admit one of my visits to Texas was courtesty of the Air Farce over in Lackland AFB, which wouldn't endear the place to anybody. In point of fact considering that the Mexican War was an outright unjust expansion of hegemony I might even suggest that the ethical thing to do (with regard to properties taken unjustly or under false pretense) would be to apologize to Mexico and return all territories aquired thereby! It seems Hispanics are busily repopulating former Mexican territory anyway I been to Nevada, Utah and other such dried out places and didn't like them much either.Especially Utah. Let the Mormons inflict their glorious "divine Plans" on Mexico instead of the US. I personally don't care if Texans bait deer or javalinas for that matter, let Texans do whatever Texans do, then we can all scoff at the videos.
For the record I always thought Johnathan Swift's "A Modest Proposal" to be hilariously funny and I hope that readers will take the above opinions in a spirit similar to Swift's "Proposal".

The land thing, look at current demagraphic's, we are'nt "giveing it back" they're re-populating it anyway.

Once upon a message board, in a comment 46 posts above, Tx4ever responded to WA Mtnhunter's query

"If you guys are so mad at the 'liberal rag,' then why are you still here griping about it?"

with

"I guess you would adopt the 'hide your head in the sand' theory. I myself hope to enlighten as many sportmen as possible. Yes i still get the rag even after i asked them to stop sending it, as you may notice i have not commented on the current issue because my last issue went in the trash where it belongs."

Tx4ever's response was reasonable, but the first sentence was perhaps a bit harsh and should have been worded more civilly. The "hide your head in the sand" bit must have upset WA Mtnhunter, who subsequently made an unsolicited attack on Tx4ever about baiting. These two exchanged posts about baiting before buckhunter entered the conversation with an unmerited attack on Texans:

"Tx4ever sounds that a typical Texan. Afraid to wade out into the brush because something might scratch you. In Ohio we call those hunters wussies. Texas is too flat and too warm to make tough hunters."

It was only after this comment that Tx4ever resorted to nastiness, and in his final comment wrote

"Now i get it ...Yankees gotta bad mouth Texas. Go listen to your 'Dixie Chicks' cd, and bad mouth President Bush. You have never even seen brush in 'OHIO' , 'Texas is to flat' Never been to the hill country..To warm ,never been near Amarillo in the winter.PS- Texas ought to dump our trash in OHIO, Hurry Maybe you can still make the PITA meeting."

Following this, LovetoHunt365 politely rebuked WA Mtnhunter and buckhunter for their divisive posts and called for all involved to "ban together" as sportsmen. WA Mtnhunter responded defensively and compared LovetoHunt365 to a jackass.

WillHunt4Food then joined the fray with a pair of uninvited personal attacks on WA Mtnhunter to which WA Mtnhunter responded civilly. WillHunt4Food's next post was courteous and explained his contention with WA Mtnhunter.

Thereafter, Big O criticized Tx4ever and Texans in general, followed by a brief orthographical discussion with WillHunt4Food.

Things went quiet for about a week, followed by a few desultory comments then WhiteTailHunter's rebuke of WA Mtnhunter. Big O responded to WhiteTailHunter, claiming that WillHunt4Food "cast the first stone" and again criticizing Texans.

And now I'm here recapping this cyber feud, trying not to take sides. I've formed my opinions about those involved, and there seems to me to be a common denominator.

No insults intended. Bella made only four points regarding Texas; the rest were off the cuff remarks:

1) "other dried out places" Fact for much of Texas.

2) "ruckus about Texas secession". Didn't the Texas Gov. recently raise a ruckus about this? Or at least the media did...

3) "Hispanics are busily repopulating former Mexican territory anyway". True statement. Hispanic populations are growing at a faster rate than non-Hispanics, particularly in border states. Duh. See U.S. Census data. Legal or illegal was not the point nor mentioned.

4) Baiting deer and javelina. I think this is where I joined the fray initially stating that it was not my cup of tea. Having hunted that method in south Texas, I feel that I have an informed opinion.

5) The taking of Texas from Mexico was indeed part of the American expansion. Justified or not, it is part of our heritage in history.

If those points are too much of a stretch, I'll eat my hat (7 5/8 Resistol Rounder) and apologize first. On point #5, I have laughed with my Texas friends over more than a few snorts of good whisky, that the U.S. "stole Texas fair and square". they were never insulted.

And one other thing, a couple of the boys who have hurled personal insults in the posts above are mighty brave to talk that way from behind a computer screen. Talking trash like that would get you carried out of the Buckhorn or Getaway in Ingleside feet first back in the day. Maybe Texas has really changed.

Hey Bella,

Where do you live these days? I lived in Narragansett, RI and Fall River, Mass 25 years ago. I found New England to be a very enjoyable place steeped in history and beauty. I met a bunch of nice people there, but just can't understand the politics of the Kennedy's and the likes of Barney Frank. Heck, I don't understand the liberal politics of the Pacific Northwest either....

I just plainly stated Southern-style that deer baiting was not my cup of tea nor is sitting in a shooting house all day on my not-so-fat a$$.

Let's start at the top shall we. No one said anything about "eating" anyone.
The land thing, look at current demagraphic's, we are'nt "giveing it back" they're re-populating it anyway.
Last time I checked the "Worst yankee's" were guys like Gen. Sherman(remember him?, burned most of the south to the ground, and William Quantril(never heard of him? "Red Leg" out of Mo. that liked rape, killing women and children, and burning places to the ground in KS.)
Last but not least, "Jealous". Of what? The "holier than thou" attitude's?, the fact that they(texans) think they are their own country?. I could go on at this point but why repete myself. See my post's above. Thank you for "your" 2 cents worth though.

I hope you are thoroughly entertained by that type of behavior. It definitely shows your level of intellectual maturity.

THen later "What was that about "never enter a braying contest with a jackass"? IMO this person was not looking for a fight of any kind. To be concerned about our environment is extremely important for all hunters and outdoorsmen. To spread misleading information however is simply childlike. The scientists that make up the United Nation IPPC for the most part do not believe that the warming that we are having has anything to do with man made causes.More than 600 of them think that what we are experiencing is natural for our planet.

PS: We may not be as good as we once was, but we could be as good once as we ever was!

Best regards

Bella you need to dial your history back a few more years’ fella. Does Spain have any meaning to you!
O’Brother!

Don’t you find it interesting how people pick and chose history like a box of chocolate!

Yep them Aztec are likely due some sort of apology from Juan Carlos, but remember Cortez went without official sanction to go to Tenochtitlan, So the spanish might get off on a technicality, because Cortez was an entrepreneur (Pizzaro too!).
Clay, it's raining today, and we need it. It was nice yesterday so I took my 1911 out to my range and got a little target practice in.

Tx4ever sounds that a typical Texan. Afraid to wade out into the brush because something might scratch you. In Ohio we call those hunters wussies. Texas is too flat and too warm to make tough hunters.

Sorry to butt in WA Mtnhunter.

Bella,

That is an intersting perspective sure to raise the ire of the Texans on the blog! Even if tongue in cheek, it is not too far from the truth! LMAO

I'm kinda chortling a bit over the notion that I might be "Jealous" of Texas or Texans. You folks sure do get some funny notions down there. Must be the heat, yep, must be the heat.

As sportsmen and women we should ban together , and not allow our selfs to be picked apart over differences . I see this alot in fishing with the artificial vs live bait groups. Mtn Hunter and buckhunter are way off.

Good riddance. Idaho is a toxic sewer as a result of Bush and his
neo-con crony in the governor's mansion. Drink water/drink lead as a result of out-of-control resource extraction operations. Global warming and enviro-nuts? Go grab a Bud and turn on Rush.
