Legitimate role of government?

Uploaded on January 09, 2010

I have recently been spending a good deal of my time in local and state politics. Being involved in political discussions has led me to accept facts about expectations of government involvement in our daily lives. My question to you is simply asked but I'm afraid difficult to answer to everyone's satisfaction.

What is the legitimate role of government in a free society? What do you expect from your elected officials?

Follow the constituion as layed out by the framers and leave well enough alone. We should not have a President that says one thing and does another.Always heard if he will lie he will steal and we don't need any more thiefs.Congress is already killing us.

Follow the Constitution is #1. The Tenth Amendment should be followed a lot more than it has been lately. The federal government should be limited to international relations, maintaining a currency, maintaining an army, law and order, and basically securing our future. For some reason, Congress believes that just because they are elected to be there that they have to pass laws. The common sense laws are already passed, and now they are busy thinking of things they have to pass to show that they need to be re-elected.

The states need more power to govern their citizens. That way, states will compete with each other for citizens more than they already have. The better states will have a larger population and more say in national matters and the losers will have less of a say in the House of Representatives.

Stop givin handouts to every country or citizien that gives some sob story.

Quit feeding and funding countries and importing from countries we once fought wars with and still dislike us but willingly accept our handouts and $$

Quit taking care of the poor in other countries and take care of our country and our poor.

Limited Federal power as per the original layout of the constitution.
More States Rights as per the Constitution.

A Congress that can NOT vote itself its own pay raises and that is limitied to a four year term.

A Congress that works an 8 hour day not a 1/2 day and gets overpaid.

Retired Congressmen/Reps should not get the pay raises of current seated Congressmen / Reps.

A Congress/ Senate that is actually for the people and by the people.

A Gov't that can be fired, unseated or impeached for being ineffective no matter the time they spent in their position.

Vote of no confidence and they are out.

Stop giving illegals and criminals a free ride and ban PETA, HSUS, ALF,

Combine the intelligence agencies under 1 command
Get rid of spearate law enfrcement agencies ( Homeland security, Border Patrol, ATF, FBI, US Marshalls, Air Marshalls and combine them as well.
They do the same jobs it makes sense to make them one unit. It'll smooth out rivalries and will increase communication.
Would seriously put a bigger dent in the crimes and near misses and immigration issues if they're on the same team.

The legitimate role of the federal government can be found in Article IV of the Constitution. Anything (meaning most of what the government currently does) has no constitutiional authority. For instance there is no constitutional authority for the Health Care (AKA tax increase) Bill currently being shoved up the collective American a__. All gun regulations are unconstitutional as in "shall not be infringed". All I want out of the government is them out of my life.

Government is a necessary evil that must exist so that we don't live in an anarchist state.
