Backlash and Blowback

Misdirection

Uploaded on July 06, 2009

I have been a member of F&S now for quite sometime. I visit the site at least 2-4 times a day. I love to read about the people and the game they get or just the experiences that they have. I like to know that there are more people out there that are in the sport for what its worth, not for what they can get out of it. But the more I vist the site and see the new threads and posts, I come to realize that this site has become more of a "political" battle site.
Im not one to say that I havent put my two cents in, nor do I claim not to have started threads myslef, but in all honesty, I thought this was a place for the outdoorsmen?
I understand that politics plays an important role in what we can do within our sport, but to drag in all sorts of information that deals with things that are FAR from hunting/fishing.
From one American to another, I see the problems and the way things go. I also see that alot of "smoke" gets blown around by everybody.
I would like to see the site go back to how it used to be, about the outdoors and how we can enjoy it to the fullest.

I don't think that hunting and fishing and shooting sports will ever be exempt from political comment. We have to much at stake to be lead around by the nose like a farm animal. The very things that we hold so dear: firearms, public land, open water all hinge on our willingness to promote our desires regarding these issues. What better place to discuss and learn than here in this forum of like minded individuals?

Actually you can have separation. Checking the top of the page, I find this is called "Field & Stream".

It is NOT called, "Home Defense & Stream", "2nd Amendment & Stream", or "(Insert) & Stream".

At least the Stream-minded peoples are freed of the political side, as most fisherman I know do not keep a loaded reel in the nightstand in case of burglary, nor is there any federal legislation for fishing rod control. And in no state have I heard of anyone being arrested for carrying a concealed fishing rod in a vehicle.

So, there are thousands... THOUSANDS of blogs and sites to constantly gripe about the facts concerning machine guns, concealed .45s, and anti-personnel ammunition.

Just ONCE in a while, we need to leave those festering wounds some people have elsewhere, and enjoy the "Field" part of this site.

Jeff4066 I couldnt agree more. That is what Im saying, there are places for everything and F&S shouldnt be that place.
As for peter, Im sorry that you feel that Obama is an idiot. In my political defense, I would have to say, it must have been Bush electing people like you that got this country so twisted.

I agree that politics can get, well irritating at best, and though it'd be nice to be able to turn a blind eye to it, we as sportsmen are to an extent forced to deal with some issues, IE access issues (and conservation issues), Gun control issues, Unethical management practises, and the lack of management that some species suffer from (wolves in much of the country for instance) This is a place where sportsmen can come together to familiarize themselves with these issues, discuss them and come to an accord (potentially) While I often ignore these particular threads, or don't weigh in on them, They are useful, and also liike I say, you can ignore them when not in the mood for the political fair that often comes up.

If you want to turn a blind eye to the political side of what we do be prepared to surrender everything that you hold dear. Hunting, fishing ,trapping and even target shooting would all be gone now without the constant political watch dog efforts of earlier sportsmen. You are the watch dogs now! Do a good job and the future outdoors men will enjoy what you enjoy because of old guys like me!

Typical of those liberals, who believe in their first amendment, tell other's to go some ware else in the world ware it is welcome to talk about other things that aren't related to F&S. I'm stupid, what I mean is I thought that this site was for all who enjoy freedom, and want to keep it. If I told you to shut up and quit wining about field and stream allowing forum's to talk about politics such as backlash an blowback would you get upset at me? This site is full of fishing and hunting questions commits pictures that should be enough enjoyment to satisfy any outdoors men/woman, if you are upset because of the freedom of debate, maybe you should petition F&S not to allow anything not related to outdoors, including stupid questions to rack up points or langue that is uncalled for, or maybe people who don't have a tolerance for other's. You won't stop it, you wonder why so many are talking about politics now days. I would say look at our currant political system and ask yourself. Will the laws that the official I voted for effect the future of fishing or hunting. I like blowing smoke, it could build a fire in the heart of freedom believers! Then again it could make people think I need to shut up. Oh Well the is America and F&S has every right to shut down all those who don't meat their standards. Maybe F&S should start a F&S Snitch program to track down those who do not meet their standards or speak complete fact, and spread roomer or satire. Misdirection? Good point ;)
If you don't like the politics you could snitch.
