I do remember those days of October 1962 known as the Cuban Missile Crisis. I remember my Father gone for several days dispatching to every Titan II ICBM Silo at Vandenberg AFB California to make sure the propulsions systems were fully operational. I remember that week and the look of his face when he did come home only to shower shave and get something to eat and off again. How close we came to full out nuclear war was literally a push button away and it was a hair trigger! The soviets was watching on radar a high flying aircraft coming from the North thinking perhaps it was the first wave of B52 Bombers as NORAD was watching a missile launch possibly a Soviet SLBM from the south east corner of Florida. Tensions were beyond words and thought and nether country didn’t want war. Cool heads prevailed, the Air Craft from the North in Russia was a U2 Spy plane and the Missile launch an announced Cape Canaveral launch!

Growing up around ICBM’s I know what they are capable of. I don’t fear North Koreas ICBM’s, I do fear the already here in this country they do have.

I know for fact, I can drive an 18 wheeler coast to coast with what ever I want and know how to do it without being stopped and it's really that easy!

Speaking of Presidents

I remember at Vadenburg AFB CA, President John F Kennedy motorcade just below us to watch a ICBM launch and in 1976 standing in Hanger #7 the Security Police building at Barksdale AFB while one of the guys from my shop checking in his AR15 into the Base Armory after we finished hunting. Everyone their thought we were Special Ops or something until the 2nd Lieutenant figured it out we wasn’t and talk about someone freaking out! Fortunately I had some friends in high places present there to calm the boy down! "They are checking their weapons in, not out Lieutenant" was told and President Ford was less than 50 yards away in clear view walking our way and we had no idea he was even scheduled to come to Louisiana to visit! I remember one of the Colonels said to the Lieutenant and the two “MEN IN BLACK” carrying Uzis, in case of a fire fight these two I’d pick! Nothing ever came out of it, it was all forgotten about.
