Sean Penn - Idiot

Uploaded on March 11, 2010

Did anyone else notice that Sean Penn, a proud member of the Blame America First Club, recently said that journalists who call Hugo Chavez a dictator should be jailed? Unbelievable.

This proves that Sean Penn is an idiot, a good actor, but an idiot just the same.

I don't pay much attention to movies or the very simple people who act in them so what they say carries little weight with me. I would have to say that he is wrong.

Typical Hollywood type. They all think alike, and none of them think for themselves. Very trendy and easily led. Sean Penn can go public with his political beliefs secure in the knowledge that he will not lose any of his Hollywood friends. That is very telling. Most of us keep our politics to ourselves because we know that not everybody shares our views. He does not know that.

99explorer - Can you make a generalization any more broad? I would not group Sean Penn with the likes of Ronald Reagan, Martin Sheen, or Arnold Schwarzenegger. An actor has as much right as any other citizen to speak their minds. As with any of our friends and neighbors, we find some have something worthwhile to contribute and others don't. Sean Penn speaks from his heart, but continues to prove he is in the latter group. He is an idiot.

The problem is that too many people out there think that if someone is famous, they are worth listening to. Too many of these Hollywood types have too much time on their hands because they make so much money and so they don't really have to spend their days working. They get to parade around with brown-nosing politicians for the cameras and sit around thinking that they know what is best for everybody else.

Remember when movies that made the most money got awards? Now its more the movies and roles that make a political statement that get the gold. If I wanted to see someone's political statement, then I go read it somewhere. When I go to the movies, I'd rather be entertained.

It's no surprise to see Penn taking an extreme left-wing political position but you know that he would be the first person to shout about the first amendment and freedom of speech if anyone tried to suppress the views of those he agrees with; but when the press disagrees with him, he wants to throw them in jail.

I cannot recall a more blatantly hypocritic statement by a public figure in recent history. I hope all his future movies fail miserably.

Yes, Penn is an idiot. When he went to Haiti after the earthquake, he was "amazed" that the U.S. military was doing a good job helping the victims. He did not comment on the dismal assistance his beloved dictator Hugo offered Haiti, and thinks I should be jailed for calling Hugo a dictator, what a clown!!!!!!

Dakotah Dan-
Yes, that is a broad generalization, and I acknowledge that there are exceptions to the rule. Jon Voight, Gary Sinese, Patricia Heaton, Stephen Baldwin, Robert Davi, Dennis Hopper and Kelsey Grammer were closet conservatives until they came out publicly over the past few years.
There are rumors that Robert Downey Jr. is a closet Republican, but his publicist refuses to comment, saying, "RDJ does not comment on policical matters."
Mark Vafiades, president of the Hollywood Congress of Republicans, says, "If you come to an audition wearing a Bush or McCain button, the casting director will most likely pick another actor. Just being on a set you hear prople bashing Bush and the right, because they assume everyone agrees."
Andrew Klavan,a conservative author and screenwriter, said recently, "Sean Penn is out dancing with dictators, and no one gives him flak. Instead they give him Oscar nominations. Jon Voight may have some semblance of job security, but he still has to be careful about what he says."

Penn is a mentally challenged pin head. Sheen and Schwarzenegger
are actors who should have stayed out of the political arena. Ronald Reagan was a mediocre actor who was the greatest president of my lifetime.

I don't see the reasons. No name or person is sacred. All of us are fallable, including those on the anointed right. A person taking positions on the left or on the right, or an actor declaring him/herself a republican or democrat does not automatically raise them above criticism simply by the side they have taken. I agree with Ableskeever in that too much attention is given to the opinions of the rich and famous simply because they are rich and famous. The problem is a person won't get media attention for their pet cause "if they don't have the do re mi."

I would prefer not to watch Carl Rove do Shakespere and likewise don't need the likes of Sean Penn, Julia Roberts, et al giving me political commentary. When the Hollywood types don't stick to what they are good at they only hurt their careers. There are some actors whose political opinions and lifestyles are so repugnant that I can no longer stand to see them on the big screen even in their acting roles. Sean Penn is among them. Celebrity status is dependent on popularity. They would be wise to protect their celebrity status by avoiding using that status as a soapbox from which to make asses of themselves.

I think that people in the performing arts like Sean Penn are exploiting an additional perk from their profession. In addition to fame and fortune, he is grabbing free air time for his pet causes, eagerly adding to his fame, but unwittingly subtracting from his fortune.

I don't even remember the last time I watched a movie but I think it was " The Good The Bad & The Ugly" I don't have much use for the modern day actors which Penn seems to define more often than not. My time is usually spent watching Fox News. The man is a tee total idiot not worthy of my time to watch. I don't know what makes him think he is an expert on politics, of which it sounds like he knows absolutly nothing.

I just read somewhere that he got his start in show business with a cameo in "Little House on the Prairie," which was directed by his father, Leo Penn. I guess it doesn't hurt to have a little pull. He will turn fifty next month, proving that you can be a kid only once, but you can be immature all your life.
