Bass Fishing

sex ads in the back of the magazine

Uploaded on May 21, 2009

Is it really necessary to fill up the back of the magazine with all the male enhancement/sex ads? I'm no prude but this really seems out of place to me.

If the people that make the products and ads pay enough, it doesn't really matter now does it?

We had our first grandkid last year. Not THAT young, not THAT old.

Like TV or radio, ads we don't care for are a part of the fabric of life. With TV, that's the chance to go get a snack. With magazines, it just means a quick glance for something useful, then move on.

I know ads are supposed to make the magazine, or show, cheaper for us, but you would think the companies themselves would be better at picking ads and placement.

Some of my favorite mags are more ads than articles now.

There was a time that you could let young people to look at all outdoor magazines. Now you have to screen all of the outdoor magazines from young eyes... Shame on the industry!
As sportsmen we should be making our magazines safe for all ages and encouraging young readers to subscribe or buy it monthly.... We need to be recruiting young people into our sport. Imagine if you were kind of interested in hunting or fishing, but did not know much about it and you picked up any one of the sporting magazines to show your child. If you were indecisive about whether you wanted to share this experience with you child.... That just might change your views on hunting, fishi9ng and the people who do it. I am not a prude either, but in a magazine that is supposed to be promotong outdoor sports ( hunting and fishing)... I really do not see a place for these ads. Field and Stream is not alone, they are all doing it now. But I do think that some one should buck the trend and return our outdoor magazines to just that, stories and ads aboout outdoors and hunting and fishing.

Buck hunter,

That is the same as saying the one who pays the most is a better person The real issue is the image it creates on sportsmen and women... We need to recruit young kids and show the anti's and novices out there that we are truly a good group fo people. If not, we are dooming our sport... I am not against the ads, but don't think they should be in a sporting magazine with fishing and hunting.

My question is this: Why are there only male enhancement advertisements? Whats there for the women that read the magazine. I am a woman and I don't get anything from reading 3 to 5 ads back to back saying the same thing about men. Come on F & S. I thought this was a magazine for all genders and ages. Old dilapidated worn out men arent' the only ones reading this magaizine. Slow it down on the sex ads and lets put something in there worth the time we spend reading it.

So much of what many have said is true, if we didn't look they would not print it.That said I try to be careful of what I read or watch on tv. I do not think it's right for an outdoor magazine to force this into my home. It's the same way with hollywood you think you know what your are going to be watching and then they will say or do something to make you wish your kids or family were not in the room.Hollywood along with so many in this country just asume everyones as messed up as they are. As far as telling someone, to just not look. Think about this I will look at nice looking women if I'm at the store or out eating with my wife, because they are there. It would not be the same for me to chose to go to these places in order to look at them.If I were looking for this type of imfo I would not buy a hunting magazine to get it. I want my daughter to be able to look at all of the magazine, she enjoys shooting. The same for watching tv with her we are not tuning in in order to see two men or two women kissing. We live in a great country because of our morality which comes from the God. Know one has to belive this, in order for all to benefit from it. It's our choice to add to the morality or lessen it.

I think that if the ads keep this fine magazine going I can certainly live with them. I don't find anything more offensive about these ads than I would about feminine hygiene products. These are things that were totally off limits to speak of or certainly out of bounds to display 25 years ago. Times change and we have to change with them. There are certain things that we have to stand firm on that affect our sport, things that we have to reject forcefully, but I don't believe these ads are important issues.

30 years ago you would never see any adds like those in the back of F&S, or any other related magazines for that matter. Unfortunitly in today's time, seems that sex sells. You can't even watch Cartoon channel late night, without an advertizement of Girls Gone Wild. There's appropriate and then there's inappropriate. Seems to me that people have there wires crossed. I don't think we have to compromise I root beliefs, to keep up with the times. We want our children to live with good values, Don't we? Question: How do you eat an Elephant? The magazine needs all the income it can get.The adds pay to help them to keep putting out a great mag and upkeep this killer web site.We would grip about it if the price went up to much. Some will grip about the adds, then grip about if the price went up.No one makes you read the adds.If your into some thing that might make your wife a little more happy then you migt want to try something out. Some of the adds are truthful in doing what it says.I have been bored and bought some of the products and i am very happy with the results. So for people who want there cake and eat it to, tha,ll keep gripping about the adds.Years ago you couldnt see two adults in the same bed on TV.There not selling there soul, there selling products that some might need and never addmit it.I dont think i,ll do to haties cause of a little blue pill.Yep, 25, 30 years ago, men were men.Good hunting.

Seems money and sex is the answer to a good life now days. Funny 25 or 30 years ago, tv and magazines had good ratings and F&S has been around for a long time. All its money doesn't come from Male enhancement pills. Should these kind of adds be placed in Boy's Life just because it may sell more. I maybe over reacting to some, but I see a whole differnt aspect on about these adds. People who like to have thier cake and eat it too are not reading F&S for that. Those type of people read Playboy and simular. Thing about it is that today people don't care much about what is proper or common courtesy. It's more about what feels good to me. 25 or 30 years ago people had more concern about what their children were exposed to. Now the streets are full of what we like to call challenged youth. Go figure.

One simple answer would be to tear that ad out of your mag if you don't want your kids to see it,I know, you shouldn't have to. But if you like the mag,do it,than you or your kids don't have to see it. As far as change with the times that might work with the job market but not with moral issues or something everyone here might be able to relate to hunting issues. For example food is already so available in stores why do we need to hunt(this is an argument I ve heard from many animal rights people)My point just because times change doesn't mean everything should change along with it.

F&S needs to understand that alot of kids are getting into the outdoors and they need to change to fit the generation. it just shouldnt be in the back of a OUTDOOR mag. Mad at the world because they think someone is going to still their toys, istead of having concern about how their going feed their children whats right. I'm sorry you think sex is primal. I think there will be no primal without good morals and comman deceny toward all man. If we don't not embrace what is right, then we will end up in demise. And, yes I do consider my self immature.

If you are truely, asking scripture because you want to know the truth and are not being arguementive. You can read the bible for your self. You know as soon as we start "quoting scripture" from the bible it will end up in arguement. I don't like to see that here as I'm sure others don't either. Chritians do not argue scripture. It is your right smallmouthaddict as it is yours hunterkid94 to express your opinion. You are correct in asuming that I judge wrong, as do we all. We also lack knowing what right and wrong is, at times because we judge according to our own desires, emotions and lusts. We all make mistakes and we all have sinned. If I judged you wrong then I sincerly apologize. But I will not quote you a scripture. You can read for your self the bible. You may have done so already and thats good, but remember it is a living book. Every time I read it I get something new for my life. Somthing that helps me grow. 4 chapters a day well let you read the bible in 1 years time. If you do not like the bible then my point is proven that you want to argue. SEX ADDS in the back of a magazine that children have there eyes on? I know many magazines do it, but we are talking about F&S here.

There are distinct differences in what is in good taste, moral, legal, and Biblical.

The ads are certainly legal. I can't quote anything from the Bible that speaks directly to the issue except the verses prohibiting fornication. I suppose there is nothing immoral about the ads if they are for use in the bounds of marriage. I suppose they are borderline in the morals area where exposing them to small children is not particularly healthy from some perspectives.

What they are is extremely poor taste and definitely not a class act. We should expect better.

1Corinthians 10:21
Galatains 5:19-21
1John 2:3-6
2Timothy 2:15-19
Colossians 3:17-23
Philippians 4:5-9
1Thessalonians 5:22
and many more....

Please, I do not want an argument. I will not argue with you about these scriptures. Your ideas and inturpatations are up to you and God. Keep in mind, you can find any scripture to justify, just about any thing you want to do or don't want to do. If you have a relationship with the Lord I know you will not search scripture to justify but, to grow in the Lord.

Seems to reffernce Separation of Church and State?
Not in the constitution my friend.
Freedom of speech is.

For one F&S is a business, while they need subscribers they also need advertisements. It is there choice to run these ads. It is your choice to subsrcibe. Maybe parents should not be so lazy and explain things to their kids. They hear a lot worse things on the playground. If you do not want to have your kids reading the ads then do not let them read F&S. Or make them understand what they are reading. Times are different, we once believed the world was flat also. If F&S loses enough subsrcibers because of these ads then will stop using them. To each his own.

my oh my you'd think by now some of you would have a sense of humor about now, lets argue about the one thing none of us could ever get tired of having, sex , now let society and the church turn it into a bad thing and lets swat F&S on the hand for posting an ad about it. Now lets tell the nonperformers that its just tough luck that they can't have the one thing that all of the world's people enjoy doing, like I said before, its as primal as hunting and gathering, personally, I don't like the ATV ads in the mag cuz it teaches us, hunters, outdoorsman that its ok to pollute the environment, become fat and lazy and drive to the base of our stand and have a heart attack while climbing up it and blame Mcdonalds, then strap our ethically harvested animal to the rack and drive it to the nearest processor, my first deer was strapped to a hickory tree and carried out on my and my dads shoulders on property "given" to us by the US gov't more than 100 years ago with the Dawes Act. I was 13 when I shot that buck with a 38.40 winchester. about 5 years ago, I was walking where we loaded that deer up, and there on the ground was that hickory stick we used, the bark had long vanished, a maze of termite trails covered the length, moss was slowly creeping its way up and soon it would be completely returned back to earth, and I turned and looked up at that ancient ridge with its spider-web of tree tops and prayed that one day, my only son would have the opportunity that I had, and perhaps that his grandpa would be fortunate enough to witness it as well. so if your bible states that sex is bad, then believe it, but if you have enough common sense to make decisions for yourself, well then you don't need me to sway you... as a dog returneth to his vomit so a fool returneth to his folly-proverbs... show me a man who hasn't done this, and I will show you a man who hasn't lived or is a liar. and I challenge you to find a mainstream publication that doesn't have these types of ads, I know that my children are educated about sex and all that it is, both beautiful as love and foolish as lust, its the uneducated that fear the unknown and the same that make the worst mistakes, and one warning I didn't see on the ads- may cause one to knock their hips out of place- they should add that. so all you anti-sex having ads people, keep your pants up and when your willie stops working, don't you dare ask your dr about the lil blue pill, or cream.- yours truly, Seminole Indian, Grandson of a Chief, ancestor of those who fought Jackson in Florida, displaced like dogs, stuggling to keep the old ways alive, I'd shake a medicine feather at ya'lls a$$ if I could

My question is this: Why are there only male enhancement advertisements? Whats there for the women that read the magazine. I am a woman and I don't get anything from reading 3 to 5 ads back to back saying the same thing about men. Come on F & S. I thought this was a magazine for all genders and ages.

I would say you are defencive.
Sorry, if want scripture I give it. I will not try to explain it to you. You will have too pray for yourself. I know from your statments that we have very different ideas about what is moral and apropreate. I will not qoute them, but you can look them up for yourself.

Matthew 5:28
Matthew 15:18-20
1Corinthians 10:21
Galatains 5:19-21
1John 2:3-6
2Timothy 2:15-19
Colossians 3:17-23
Philippians 4:5-9
1Thessalonians 5:22
and many more....

Please, I do not want an argument. I will not argue with you about these scriptures. Your ideas and inturpatations are up to you and God. Keep in mind, you can find any scripture to justify, just about any thing you want to do or don't want to do. If you have a relationship with the Lord I know you will not search scripture to justify but, to grow in the Lord.

I know many magazines do it, but we are talking about F&S here.

and I said nothing of church and state, I said church and F&S, besides, I do most of my praying with a gun in my hand in God's country... seems you need to take some of those enhancements to relax you a lil bit... lol, and I said nothing about the consitution, and you've seem to have killed your own arguement with the 1st amend comment, F&S can do what they want and have for the past 100+years, so, in closing, I've got a song for you, its called, Get over it(music sounds) besides, all you white eyes can argue all you want, I'm Native American, raised the old way, hunt the old way, and still still harbor old beliefs, there are lots o parts of the bible that are plain bs added by the roman catholic church to control the masses, oh yeah, did I mention I completed my thesis on the birth of religion. while there may be a Creator, the bible overall is fiction with historical reference, based on hearsay and beliefs of those hundreds of years after the time of christ, I don't know about you, but have u ever spent time around a campfire, stories change faster than the weather, but go on and believe in what u want, if it makes u feel better, and I suggest you read several other biblical writings that didn't make it into the final cut of the Bible, and they said dinosaurs weren't real. and don't worry F&S I subscribe to playboy as well, so you won't be losing my subscription cuz of single add. geeze lighten up america, those adds and Heavey are the only reason I subscribe to F&S

my oh my you'd think by now some of you would have a sense of humor about now, lets argue about the one thing none of us could ever get tired of having, sex , now let society and the church turn it into a bad thing and lets swat F&S on the hand for posting an ad about it.
