Happy Forth everone:
300 people at our tea party today..
Andy, outstanding post... lack of response must have been due to A.) Petzal's post on the Waco/media issue ...and...
B.) The Title
Might have gone with something like: "Who like's being taxed out of your own Country" or "Scumbag Liberal Laws" or "Who thinks the Government is 100% Competent?"
Maybe people will keep looking at it~ don't give up. Re-post the info about the Aye list and TEA party site- I think it is worth promoting. There was not a TEA party locally today, but there was one on the 29th instead. Keep up the good work!
ranger2,
Thanks for the uplift, yeh I should have named post different. I'm not good with words and my spelling is not so good, I will continue the fight against, "Whacked out Liberal Laws" I'm tiring to keep informed. Thinking of starting another post, in reference to this post. Thanks for the all the support.
Lets keep fighting, any and all suggestion's are welcome...
The concept behind the "tea party" thing is good, but I wish someone had read their history before starting this.
The dumping of the tea at the real Tea Party was a protest over commerce and profits rather than tax. Call it a selective tax. It was an English attempt to control American commerce, but English tea was the one thing NOT being taxed. Americans trying to get around paying money to England were importing Dutch and other teas. The British got together tons of tea and brought it to the Colonies actually to sell at a lower price, with no taxes, to get Americans to buy more English tea.
Of course, even then, there were business owners that couldn't see ahead of their own wallet. Under the guise of "patriotism", people were worked into a frenzy resulting in the dumping of cheaper, untaxed, English tea. Thus, the profits continued from the foreign imports to these companies.
So to use the term "tea party" today almost embodies the exact opposite of what we're protesting.
i totally agree wuth the tea parties but i will not be theere, ill have to watch the coverge on the only networkm that will mention that people hate taxes and big government, fox
The Boston Tea Party was a direct action protest by colonists in Boston, a town in the British colony of Massachusetts, against the British government. On December 16, 1773, after officials in Boston refused to return three shiploads of taxed tea to Britain, a group of colonists boarded the ships and destroyed the tea by throwing it into Boston Harbor.
The Tea Party was the culmination of a resistance movement throughout British America against the Tea Act, which had been passed by the British Parliament in 1773. Colonists objected to the Tea Act, especially because they believed that it violated their right to be taxed only by their own elected representatives. Protestors had successfully prevented the unloading of taxed tea in three other colonies, but in Boston, embattled Royal Governor Thomas Hutchinson refused to allow the tea to be returned to Britain.
The Boston Tea Party was a key event in the growth of the American Revolution. Parliament responded in 1774 with the Coercive Acts, which, among other provisions, closed Boston's commerce until the British East India Company had been repaid for the destroyed tea. Colonists in turn responded to the Coercive Acts with additional acts of protest, and by convening the First Continental Congress, which petitioned the British monarch for repeal of the acts and coordinated colonial resistance to them. The crisis escalated, and the American Revolutionary War began near Boston in 1775.
