Just in case this one hasn't crossed your inbox:
A woman in a hot air balloon realized she was lost. She lowered her altitude and spotted a man in a boat below. She shouted to him, "Excuse me, can you help me? I promised a friend I would meet him an hour ago, but I don't know where I am."
The man consulted his portable GPS and replied, "You're in a hot air balloon, approximately 30 feet above a ground elevation of 2,346 feet above sea level. You are at 31 degrees, 14.97 minutes north latitude and 100 degrees, 49.09 minutes west longitude.
"She rolled her eyes and said, "You must be a Republican."
"I am," replied the man. "How did you know?"
"Well," answered the balloonist, "everything you told me is technically correct. But I have no idea what to do with your information, and I'm still lost. Frankly, you've not been much help to me."
The man smiled and responded, "You must be an Obama Democrat."
"I am," replied the balloonist. "How did you know?"
"Well," said the man, "you don't know where you are or where you are going. You've risen to where you are, due to a large quantity of hot air. You made a promise you have no idea how to keep, and you expect me to solve your problem. You're in exactly the same position you were in before we met, but somehow, now it's my fault."
Thanks Carney, Yep Ive seen it. Thats about the truth of it.
Perhaps you have seen this one too?
The Post Turtle
While suturing a cut on the hand of a 75-year old Texas rancher, whose hand was caught in a gate while working cattle, the doctor struck up a conversation with the old man. Eventually the topic got around to Obama and his bid to be our President. The old rancher said, "Well, ya know, Obama is a 'post turtle'. Not being familiar with the term, the doctor asked him what a post turtle was. The old rancher said : When you're driving down a country road and you come across a fence post with a turtle balanced on top, that's a post turtle. The old rancher saw a puzzled look on the doctor's face, so he continued to explain. "You know he didn't get up there by himself. he doesn't belong up there, he doesn't know what to do while he is up there, and you just wonder what kind of a dumb ass put him up there to begin with."
Thanks ranger2, LoL haven't seen that one yet.
Funny. Keep'em com'in.
That's good stuff.
A Republican and a Democrat were walking down the street when they came to a homeless person. The republican gave the homeless person his business card and told him come to his business for a job. He then took twenty dollars out of his pocket and gave it to the homeless person. The Democrat was very impressed, and when they came to another homeless person, He decided to help. He walked over to the homeless person and gave him directions to the welfare office. He then reached into the Republicans pocket and gave him fifty dollars.
Uh, AndyH? That wasn't a joke. That's basically the financial news this month.
To Jeff4066: Nice one !
Very funny
Thats good ranger2.
While I have no love for the republican crooks any hypppocrites who created this screwed up situation with washed up retread notions from the past like "trickle down economics" and tax cuts for those least in need while collaborating in the deindustrialization of America and impoverishing us all, I have also fallen completely out of love with Obama, especially after he banned my clove cigarettes (he didn't ban his own damn smokes, why did he have to mess with mine). I wanted to see all those liars who took us to war under false pretenses brought to justice but now it seems he's been bought off or sumpthin, cause he is acting just like the twit we just voted out of office. I may never vote for either part again, they are both ridden with self interested hyppocrites without a gram of foresight. It is likely the Greens or nothing for me now, although I understand the Greens somehow lost their party designation here in Mass. I may have to wind up running for office myself just out of general disgust with everyone presently out there politicing!
Uh...I'm 20 years old and I knew Obama was not a man of principle and he would be a bad president...did you more mature people not see this coming???
Bella
I have to say that after reading your posting you probably shouldn't vote for anyone ever again.
jlfreeborn,
I am close to 15 years older than you, I'm glad to see that you can think. Most 20 years olds are thinking about what feels good instead of whats right. I know because I once was 20 and my mind was not on the right things. So, I'm glad to see you are thinking for yourself and are not following the crowd as I did at 20. I'm proud of you. Its good we have young Americans like you out there.
I like to judge a candidate by their character, and I would say that based on the mans voting record and the principles he believes in, most people with a 1/2 a brain that will think for themselves would say, this man has no experience and is a ruthless thug.
I believe all men are created equal and have/had opportunities to prosper in this country. Its those lazy, lax, selfish, parasites, that want to live off a failed system of leacher type government that are going to suffer form this president. Sad thing is they are blind to it and will blame it on those who prosper instead of those who pass laws to cap prophet. You watch, when gasoline and energy go sky high, "and it will" those that voted for this president, will be the first to complain. Very Sad...
Bella,
I know I'm going to open up a can of worms here.
Could you please explain to us how "Trickle UP Economics" would work?
Just curious?
Hi Bella
I know we have not always agreed on politics and religion, but then again why should we! LOL
But you have hit the nail squarely on the head. The twits of both "parties" have gotten us into a huge mess. I am also amazed at how many liberals are so disenchanted with Obama and his idiotic administration. This cap and trade bill is a priime example of stupidity that knows no party boundaries. Even Greenpeace was against it!
Perhaps if it gets bad enough, we will lift up AMERICAN candidates for office that will look after our interests instead of their own special interests. Just a dream......
Sure, It makes no sense to cut taxes for the rich, they are the persons who benefit the most from having a stable society and have the most to loose in situations of social unrest. Most of the wealthy people in America did not get to be so by hard work, but by taking unfair advantage of their fellow men or by being so fortunate as to have inherited their wealth and social position. I say unfair because we are in a situation that the pay for the working person has stagnated and lost ground in the past 20 years, exacerbated by the fact that industry (formerly the engine of our national prosperity) has largely been dismantled in America and moved to places where they can pay a worker $1 and hour without benefits or any sort of healthcare. The industrial magnates therefore can pay themselves even more while the working family has to accept employment in the so called "service economy" for far less wages and no benefits. Corporate executives pay themselves obscene amounts of money and blame unions for spoiling the economy, when it is corporate greed that got us into this state in the first place.
Many individuals find themselves into a sort of wage slavery where they wind up doing work they dislike for low pay that doesn't cover expenses, but they can't jump off the treadmill for fear of loosing what little ground they have. Thousands of Americans have had the floor drop out from under them, with no job, no money and no longer any home to call their own but a flimsy tent under an overpass. Haven't you noticed the tent cities growing? There are now millions of desperate people victims of our culture that somehow wound up granting more rights to nonhuman corporations than actual human beings. The empoverished and disenfranchised are legion, they are our brothers and sisters and cousins. There is a tendancy to blame the loosers in our culture, as if they are all individually responsible for their ignominious fates, but the truth is most are just whipsawed by a system commandeered by a tiny percentage of greedheads who hold no responsibility for the commonweal yet reap the greatest benefits and continue to manipulate the system to keep themselves in power.
So how would trickle up work? Look to FDR and the New Deal. If we are the "greatest Nation" that we say we are we ought to be able to take care of our own. Most of the people in the tent cities (who retain any sense of hope)want very much to work and rebuild their fortunes and again have homes to call your own. Meanwhile note that our infrastructure, much of it dating from half a century ago, is crumbling and needs repair. Trickle up would assist those who have fallen to the bottom to bootstrap themselves back up. We need to re-establish industry and upgrade the powergrid before it shorts out and fails as well. Most persons do not realize how we in modern times live on the very knife edge, dependant on technology that is not that well supported. We need to rework our society but not to something more repressive or something that enables an "upper class" that already holds most of the cards, but something that stems from the principles of equality and justice so often lauded as core American principles.
Trickle up should be considered more like the planting of a seed, where a small living thing is given a little fertilizer and water as well as some encouragement then allowed to grow naturally. However for small things to grow they cannot be deprived of sunlight by the biggest things. For too long, the wealthiest have been able to buy justice whenever it suited them, buy legislation and divert taxpayer funds into their own accounts by devious means. Help those who have been hit by economic disaster and take the means from those who have enriched themselves by playing the system!
I do know of wealthy men and women who made their money by innovation and invention, I have the greatest respect for Dean Kamen and Burt Rutan for instance, and they earned their money the hard way. However why should any corporate head make more money in a year than the POTUS? People go on about "socialized medicine" as if our present system that required participation in a private extortion scheme where a corporation gets to make a profit on human pain and suffering. At least in a Government administered system my health insurance premiums would not be underwriting a lavish lifestyle for HMO executives.
I would say at present our system is close to collapse, largely because infrastructure work and upgrades have been neglected by the private corporations in favor of profit taking and suborning the regulatory agencies responsible for keeping their toes to the line. As I stated before, a lot of good people have lost everything and are desperate. if nothing is done to ameliorate their situations and still more people fall through the cracks there will be major social unrest and that will interfere with getting the neccesary work done to upgrade the infrastructure and adapt systems to handle extreme climatic events come due to planetary changes (don't claim you haven't noticed any planetary changes). In Short just help those who need help and don't fatten the parasites any more while fixing what has been broken and neglected from years of neglect by the very folks who were supposed to maintain it. Nobody likes to change, but it is better to have foresight and make change happen yourself than have it forced upon you. A problem is that many Americans do not see themselves as contributing members of a community anymore and think others should be the ones to make changes and sacrifices. Their attitude is F- you, I got mine. Well as Franklin said "if we do not hang together, we shall all hang separately". If we have a Nation and that Nation means anything, it has to be for the benefit of all citizens and not be rigged to empower a few to the detriment of everyone else. Instead of letting the top one percent of the wealthy have all the gravy with none for the rest of us, the system must work to protect the weak and the downtrodden, helping those in need rather than stripping them of the rest of their assets.
The powerful forget, that there is no man so dangerous as a man who has lost everything, for he has nothing to loose and revenge on his mind. If you take that desperate man and you give him a little something, plus some hope, it is that much less likely he will burn your house down when the starving and hopeless riot in the streets.

The Boston Tea Party was a direct action protest by colonists in Boston, a town in the British colony of Massachusetts, against the British government. On December 16, 1773, after officials in Boston refused to return three shiploads of taxed tea to Britain, a group of colonists boarded the ships and destroyed the tea by throwing it into Boston Harbor. The incident remains an iconic event of American history, and has often been referenced in other political protests.
The Tea Party was the culmination of a resistance movement throughout British America against the Tea Act, which had been passed by the British Parliament in 1773. Colonists objected to the Tea Act for a variety of reasons, especially because they believed that it violated their constitutional right to be taxed only by their own elected representatives. Protestors had successfully prevented the unloading of taxed tea in three other colonies, but in Boston, embattled Royal Governor Thomas Hutchinson refused to allow the tea to be returned to Britain.
The Boston Tea Party was a key event in the growth of the American Revolution. Parliament responded in 1774 with the Coercive Acts, which, among other provisions, closed Boston's commerce until the British East India Company had been repaid for the destroyed tea. Colonists in turn responded to the Coercive Acts with additional acts of protest, and by convening the First Continental Congress, which petitioned for repeal of the acts and coordinated colonial resistance to them. The crisis escalated, and the American Revolutionary War began near Boston in 1775.
Just remember that we are 9 meals away from revolution....
WAMthunter, I think you may understand...What happens to most comfort loving suburbanites when deisel is $15 bucks a gallon and the Walmart don't get deliveries anymore. 9 meals from revolution is a way I hadn't heard it put though. I don't wish anyone to think I desire social collapse, I do all I can to support a civil society. If such a horror should be visited upon us we would all do what we can to help those dear to us and to protect them, but isn't it better to reach out to your neighbors and fellow citizens and organize before the poop his the air impeller rather than to be dragooned into something worse under desperate straits? Personally my household is already working towards a distant goal of sustainability, but I always regarded this as merely a method of not having to pay for utilities after I retire. As far as social collapse goes, sure I got guns and I know how to use em as does most of those likely to be reading this posting, but guns are not security. Guns are a tool and a weapon, but having a gun does not make a person secure. Only one thing makes a person secure in any real sense and that factor is community. Un Pueblo Unido etc. etc. Community united with similar simple goals AND guns, that is secure, at least until somebody sends the tanks and fighterbombers.
I know about the Sons of Liberty and the Tea Party. At least one was an ancestor of mine. Like a lot of old Yankees, I have ancestors who came over on the Mayflower as well as ancestors hunting Moose in the Great North Woods at the same time. The cry was "No Taxation without Representation" and gentlemen, in theory at least, we are represented. I have met my representatives both State and Federal each at least once and have had the opportunity to discuss issues with him. The Congressmen in question at least appeared to listen or so I felt at the time.I have met both of my Senators and while I ain't so happy with Ted anymore 'cause of him messing with my smokes, I actually felt fairly impressed by Kerry. I cannot claim not to be represented and I happily pay my taxes (early even) and consider it "rent" for living in a society that allows me to participate to the surprising degree that I have. But then I value community and my own place in the community. I know that good men and women step up when called to duty and I always have. If my attitude is somewhat anachronistic, fine, history will judge me as it does.

All Ten of the Basic Rights we have are in place to keep us free. Certainly any one right does not secure us as a people. But, if you take these rights one at a time slowly, and brain wash people VIA public school's over time and allow government control over every aspect of our lives, VIA taxes, VIA cap and trade, VIA branches of government not performing the duties they are imputed to do, Such as Judges making new laws, Congress inserting themselves into private sector Such as telling us what to eat, what's best for our children, sneaking in bills 1500 pages long with no time to debate it, let alone read what's in it or understand it, we will have no power over tyrant's with out all our rights. I don't call that representation. I call that Dictatorship.
A problem is the elimination of history and civics classes from public schools due to "budget issues". The dumbing down of America is clear in the rantings of shills like O'Reilly and Limbaugh who clearly are more interested in yanking peoples emotional strings than in presenting any sense of rational discussion.
I know who the worse tyrant was, What administration lied us into a war we can't afford to channel no bid contracts to cronies. What administration sicced the NSA and FBI on the Quakers! (as if they were ever a threat to anyone!)What administration Kidnapped innocents off foreign streets and transported them to the hands of torturers. What administration blew the cover of its own intelligence operative, for political revenge alone. What administration crashed the economy by removing the regulations that prevented financial malfeasance, allowing billions in bad debt and awarding billions in bonuses to incompetents for failure. I know which administration that held prisoners without charges in direct contravention of the constitution for years. I ain't too happy with Obama, tis true, but I still would have voted for him to get the real tyrants out of there. There were rumors that Bush was going to declare martial law on some pretext back in October of 08, and declare himself "President for life". Fortunately the Neocons didn't have quite that much chutzpah and didn't dare.
The Judges who betrayed their oaths are the ones who appointed GW to office, throwing out the legally required recount. They are all conservatives. A dictator is one man, a legislature (no matter how compromised and out of touch) cannot be a dictatorship, as it is many (who still have to agree sometime).
Have you met your legislators? Have you phoned your legislators? If you did so and espoused a politically incorrect concept, did that representative summon the FBI and have you incarcerated, tortured and sent to a "re-education camp? I admit the legislature, whether Liberal or conservative dominated, often achieves puzzling and annoying ends. But they have terms that end and they can be voted out of office as long as the voting system isn't compromised, the population isn't disenfranchised and "activist judges" don't overrule the results of the polls.
Dictators include Hitler, Idi Amin, Kim Il Sung, Stalin and Pol Pot. I may be annoyed with Obama, but he hasn't crossed constitutional lines (unlike those others), he hasn't broken the Geneva Convention and comparing him to those actual tyrants, he don't even come near to making the grade. Besides he actually seems sane...
Bella
Your points are well founded for the most part and while I do not agree 100%, I definitely hear what you are saying.
There is something fundamentally wrong with this country. Our kids are dumbed down in the public schools, do not learn about our history and heritage, embark daily on the me-me-me self centered journey through life, and buy into the victim and entitlement mentality. And who is responsible for that? WE ARE! We have allowed the government to take over raising our children in the way that they should go while we were too busy doing other things. What is wrong with that picture?
"We have met the enemy, and he is us."
WA Mtnhunter,
Well said.
Good storys. Real funny.
Main Entry: dic·ta·tor·ship
Pronunciation: \dik-ˈtā-tər-ˌship, ˈdik-ˌ\
Function: noun
Date: 1542
1: the office of dictator
2: autocratic rule, control, or leadership
3 a: a form of government in which absolute power is concentrated in a dictator or a small clique b: a government organization or group in which absolute power is so concentrated c: a despotic state
A legislature can be a DictatorSHIP, If that legislature refuses to adhere to the laws of US GOVERNMENT VIA CONSTITUTION and refuses to abide by the people. Opinion polls are a farce and always have been, they are just a tool used to try and proswade. Obama has said that our Constitution is flawed, but liberal's for the most part don't seem to care. And, I'll tell you why. Because liberal voters usually care what's best for self, instead of, what's best for Country and Freedom, "If you take my toys I'll be mad!" instead of "If you don't follow the Constitution I'll vote you out!"
Once upon a time the government had a vast scrap yard in the middle of a desert. Congress said someone may steal from it at night, so they created a night watchman position (GS-4) and hired a person for the job. Then Congress said, "How does the watchman do his job without instruction?" So they created a planning position and hired two people: one person to write the instructions (GS-12) and one person to do time studies (GS-11). Then Congress said, "How will we know the night watchman is doing the tasks correctly?" So they created a Q.C. position and hired two people, one GS-9 to do the studies and one GS-11 to write the reports. Then Congress said, "How are these people going to get paid?" So they created the following positions, a timekeeper (GS-09) and a payroll officer (GS-11) and hired two people. Then Congress said, "Who will be accountable for all of these people?" So they created an administrative position and hired three people: an Admin. Officer (GM-13), an Assistant Admin. Officer (GS-13) and a Legal Secretary (GS-08). Then Congress said, "We have had this command in operation for one year and we are $18,000 over budget, we must cutback overall cost," so they laid off the night watchman.
yep
WAMthunter I appreciate the Walt Kelly Pogo reference, it seems we may be contemporaries. I am kinda waiting for the other shoe to drop, nothing really bad has happened on Obama's watch yet, when it does then we'll see what he'd made of and not before. And something really bad is gonna happen, I don't know what, but I've lived too long and seen too much. When I get a feeling...I'm not often wrong...We'll see...As I have said before I am a Pollyanna Pessimist...I seen the poop hit the air impeller more times than most yet I always muddled through; so I know bad things will happen again, so long as I can smell the wind and duck and cover in time, I'll muddle through again.
I can think of 700,000,000,000 bad things that have happened.
Ask Clinton what happened to the CIA. Ask him wht his response was for the bommings of the World Trade Center the first time. How about the Embassy bombings, Somalia? I just hope in 3 years america will start to wake up and ask questions about a candidate, before it is too late. And President Obama may have broken a major rule in the Constition. He may not have even been born here. He can end these debates real easy, unlock his records. When asked he just smiles, I do not think a smile is the best reaction. Just rumors but rumors that can easy be killed.
This is one Crazy As* post!
Once upon a time, on a farm in Arkansas, there was a little red hen who scratched about the barnyard until she uncovered quite a few grains of wheat. She called all of her neighbors together and said, "If we plant this wheat, we shall have bread to eat. Who will help me plant it?" "Not I," said the cow. "Not I," said the duck. "Not I," said the pig. "Not I," said the goose. "Then I will do it by myself," said the little red hen. And so she did; The wheat grew very tall and ripened into golden grain. "Who will help me reap my wheat?" asked the little red hen. "Not I," said the duck. "Out of my classification," said the pig. "I'd lose my welfare," said the cow. "Not my job," said the goose. "Then I will do it by myself," said the little red hen, and so she did. At last it came time to bake the bread. "Who will help me bake the bread?" asked the little red hen. "That would be overtime for me," said the duck "I'd lose my welfare benefits," said the cow. "I'm a dropout and never learned how," said the pig. "If I'm to be the only helper, that's discrimination," said the goose. "Then I will do it by myself," said the little red hen. She baked five loaves and held them up for all of her neighbors to see. They wanted some and, in fact, demanded a share. But the little red hen said, "No, I shall eat all five loaves." "Excess profits!" cried the cow. "Capitalist leech!" screamed the duck. "I demand equal rights!" yelled the goose. The pig just grunted in disdain. And they all painted "Unfair!" picket signs and marched around and around the little red hen, shouting obscenities. Then a government agent came, he said to the little red hen, "You must not be so greedy." "But I earned the bread," said the little red hen. "Exactly," said the agent. "That is what makes our free enterprise system so wonderful. Anyone in the barnyard can earn as much as he wants. But under our modern government regulations, the productive workers must divide the fruits of their labor with those who are lazy and idle." And they all lived happily ever after, including the little red hen, who smiled and clucked, "I am grateful, for now I truly understand." But her neighbors became quite disappointed in her. She never again baked bread because she joined the "party" and got her bread free. And all the Democrats smiled. 'Fairness' had been established. Individual initiative had died but nobody noticed; perhaps no one cared, as long as there was free bread.
I was once so sick of The Clinton's that I supported GWB, hoping for a change in direction in this country's morals and the direction we were headed. Sadly, we are in just as deep dung, or maybe deeper, than we were before.
When our liberty is taken away by hook and crook, it is high time for change. Unfortunately, I believe 'We the People" have been collectively duped by the media into clamoring for change. Hence, the Obama platform of empty ideas.
Sad
I think the old saw about thinking globally and acting locally has the remedy. I hear a lot of people bitching but everybody seems to want somebody else to make the change, so dammit people step up or quitcher bitchen. We home schooled our daughter, so she got civics as well as marksmanship and gun safety (the latter, with the Karate counted as phys ed). We are working towards sustainability, we grow stuff and make stuff. Unlike the little red hen in the previously quoted childrens story, the little red hen in my version bakes the 5 loaves without asking for help and shares them with the other critters because she recognizes that they are all stuck in the same barnyard! (then, being a hen she happily goes and pecks at the cow flops). I really wonder whenever anybody puts up the Republicans as examples of "morality". These days republican morals seem to be kinda self centered and more about homophobia than actual self control, generosity or honesty. When I read posts like that guy still stuck on Clinton I wonder what is being conserved by the "conservatives". Morality begins with the individual and the choices people make as they interact with one another, are you in it for every scrap you can get or are you inclined to share a resource with others. Do You feel part of a community? or are you distrustful of others to the point of isolation and paranoia?
Are you of the opinion that you need to get your way, all the time or else or can you work to find compromise with others on issues? Do you keep your word...always? Is any thing or any one worthy of lowering oneself to deceit? If there is work to be done, to you try your best to get 'er done or do you whine and settle back on the couch because the game is coming on? Are you open minded and flexible? Are you Good? Do you see any value in being "Good". Do you feel that because you are "Good" you should be allowed to "get away with stuff"?
Morality starts with one person, doing the right thing for the community. Morality isn't about condemning or blaming others for perceived cultural value violations, it is about building and caring for others in community. One person alone bitching about "those people over there" is never moral. It is by what you do that you will be judged, so always do. I feel it is the lack of this sort of attitude that got us into trouble in the first place. I notice a big issue for many is that they think their tax dollars are going to support others they consider lazy or unworthy or otherwise undeserving. They feel nothing in common with these hypothetical lazy undeserving bums. Somehow they think that everyone should root hog or die (often with the emphasis on the "die" so as to make room for more people they like better). Personally I get irritated by give aways to individuals who are already wealthy! I am angered by subsidies to corporations that pay fatcats to do no work whatsoever and even more so when Federal bailouts are used by recipients for lobbying for more bailouts (while the very guys who screwed up the most feather their nests with absurd bonuses). I think more money is wasted padding the pockets of the corporate class than is treating suffering and hunger. Putting money into putting roofs over the heads of homeless people seems proper to me (I been there a couple of times) while bailing out the already rich seems immoral and unjust. But morality starts with one person reaching out to the community so I step up.
If we each individually step up and do what needs doing, without neccesirally worrying about who is gonna pay us for it, we might make benificial changes in the world.
I don't want change, I want America to be what it was mint to be. I don't be leave we have to change with the time to keep up with Great Britain, UK, France, China.... What we have is Great No other nation on earth has ever had what we have. "Freedom" in the past 233 years we have prospered above and beyond anyone, because of freedom from oppressive control of government. Now we are looking at almost if not complete control of government. If we allow this to happen. We will no longer prosper. All we will have is bread if there are still people hear to give it. I believe that anyone in this Country that is poor it's because they choose to be. Giving people incentive to be poor is not going to help. Just like giving money to a drug addict, is not going to give him food. I have seen the so called poor first hand. I hear them complain about what I have and how unfortunate they are. While they get $400 food stamps and draw $620 government check, get there rent and electric paid for then work on the side and make cash money. Also, get a grant to go to school sometimes upwards of $5000 and never use their Schooling. People in this country are not oppressed by the so called Wealthy. They are made lazy by the Government. Then the Government blames the rich so they can raise their taxes. I am not rich by any means, but I got tax cuts. I maid under $25,000 last year. Why do I pay taxes? Because some lazy welfare leech wants a new X-box and Wide Screen TV. I have seen it all. America can not, and should not try, to pay for the worlds poor. It should be an individuals choice. I do put my money where my mouth is, I have went to jails, visited hospitals, talked with family's that are so called poor, to help. I volunteered over %15 of my income besides taxes to help the so called poor last year. We can help the world Economically and By Example if we are just allowed to prosper. Why is that people seem to complain about how unjust Americans are? Because, Like I said, they are mad because they can't have their toy's. They sound like a spoiled little child that didn't get two scoops of Ice-cream. These type of people never put their money where their mouth is and often lie to get what they want. They take all they can get. They seem to want Government to fix it by taking what is not theirs to take. And we all know that Government has done a great job with Medicare, Medicaid, and Social Security. We also know how well they manage our money. All these people care about is votes, not the poor. Look at all their friends. Obama said no earmarks. Well I guess he mint 9000 earmarks. Liberalism is a cult religion designed to have control and dictate, so the leaders can be a god to their people. Their Ideas of, share and share alike are derived from Ideas that have never worked and will never work unless you want to control people. America Became a rich nation not be cause of greed but because we believe every person can be free to prosper, and pursue happiness.
In just 50 days, Congress has voted to spend about $1.2 trillion between the Stimulus and the Omnibus. To put that in perspective, that's about $24 billion a day, or about $1 billion an hour most of it borrowed. Government spending has spun out of control. And its all to help entitle the poor and put the rich out on the street. When the government needs a bailout, Who's going to fire the CEO?
I'm a carpenter and a very good one. I'm very proud of the work that I do and I'm hired by only one group of people, wealthy people. Many of my wealthy clients pay 40% of their income every year in taxes. Because of their ability to pay a lot of good thing happen for a lot of people. Individuals who are not so well to do get tremendous tax breaks and are allowed to keep more of what they earn benefiting their families. They may be able, because of the taxes the wealthy pay, to put on that addition to their home or even to be able to make mortgage payments on a home. Because I work for wealthy clients I'm sometimes able to do a job for people with very little funds available to them, again a benefit from entrepreneurs being able to keep what they earn. When the government taxes way beyond the ability of the wealthy to pay, we are all going to suffer. My business will be done and the people that I employ will all be looking for work that doesn't exist. For all of you that believe that people with money have non-stop tax loopholes I would urge you to speak with attorneys that handle some of these types of financial issues. One of my clients, and a very decent absolutely hard working man, had to pay over one million dollars in taxes last year alone. This is a man who started with "o" and scratched his way to the top. He stills goes to work at 5am every day. Why would anyone feel that the government is better able to find a way to spend this mans money than the man who has done all the work to earn it? My friend would expand his business, my business and all of the surrounding businesses with the money that he is allowed to keep and to invest. His kept money would find it's way into 1/4 of the homes in our area through service and purchase. When the individual with the will to succeed in any business is taxed so excessively that he feels it better to sail to the far reaches of the world and no longer produce, every poor person will feel the effect.
I think Andy H is a clear sufferer from what a (gasp!) Marxist would call "false consciousness" because He thinks folks worse off than him are to blame for holding him back. The fact is wages have not kept pace with inflation for many years now, so in real wages workers make proportionally much less than workers were paid 30 40 years ago when 1 worker could earn a wage that allowed supporting a family and paying down a mortgage. One class has benifited beyond all the others, the corporate class.
I have every sympathy for the carpenter and the entrepreneur, these people create things. The carpenter, the entrepreneur, Andy H. and myself are all beset by the rules and regulations enacted to cede power and wealth to the corporate class. Whenever I hear about sometrhing requiring "management" I see it as putting nonworking interfering "supervisory" persons to keep the work from getting done. Who was it who posted the one about the security guard getting a tail of managers, supervisors, human resource personell, QC staff till the tail of the dog was so great the dog had to be amputated? It is all these people in suits who keep cutting themselves all the breaks and insinuating themselves into every aspect of everything. The Repubs are just as bad if not worse than the Dems on this, what with all their purient interest in what goes on in consenting adults bedrooms. It takes tax revenue to operate infrastructure and a Nation is judged not by how it coddles it's fortunate but how it treats it's least and lowest. I object to welfare given to corporations, farm subsidies to agribusness and tax breaks for oil companies. Bush and his cronies may seem like good ole' boys to a lot of people but they never fooled me. Bush treated us to enough "class warfare" but anyone who thinks he was working for the working class or the middle class has only to look and think - Were you richer and happier because of GW Bush? He was great for the corporations and the corporate class, but he didn't do squat for any other demographic except invent a war to send Working and middle class kids off to die in. Corporate class people never send their kids off to war, it's B-school for them!
Some readers might erroniusly infer that because I refer to Marx that I might be some sort of COMMUNIST! I an't no way no commie no how, I served in the USAF in the ROK so I know about communism and how and why it don't work. However if we aren't suffering the effects of class warfare what is it? If things go on the way they seem to be going the middle class will be as extinct as the Dodo. With a sizable gap between the upper class, the corporate class and the working class, the lower class and the underclass, with no way for individuals to jump class boundaries. Education was the classic American class jumper. Lots of poor folk have scrimped and saved every penny in order to send their kids to college and grant them a chance to advance socially. College educations are getting more and more expensive, pricing more and more people out of achievement. Illegal immigrant labor (braceros)being available cheaply, local unskilled labor is undercut and individuals are driven to seek state aid or starve. The minimum wage hasn't been raised in any realistic way in years, a body just can't live on it anymore.
Yet corporations move their offices and factories offshore, to avoid paying taxes while they exploit workers. So many in the corporate class not only do no actual work at all, they actually through speculation on commodities and currency manipulation affect prices on things like gasoline and grain making it even harder for poor folk to get by.
The HMO's are the worst of the corporate parasites, continually raising premiums and co-pays yet denying care, obfuscating their "rules" and generally getting in the way of Doctors providing health care to patients. The lies on FAUX news regarding Canadian "socialized" medicine are put to rest for me by the Canadians I know, who pity us for our sad excuse for health care. Michael Moore had it right, the Cubans do a better job! All because of the corporate class having insinuated itself between doctors and sick people to no purpose but bloating their own bank accounts. Socialism gets an unjustly bad name anyway, Sweden is rather socialist, and for all practical purposes it is one of the nicest places in the world to live, so nice they are very picky about who they let in. Most of the people who bad mouth socialism have never studied it and have no idea how specious there arguments are with regard to it. For instance, Finland is one very socialist country, yet they have more guns in private ownership per capita than most countries. So much for the disarmament of the populace being any sort of socialist canon.
So when I say tax the rich, I should clarify; tax the corporate class, and require that American corporations have their offices in America and that corporations that move operations offshore (to avoid taxes) be considered stateless and be denied contracts or especially subsidies. I say tax capital gains, it is money made without working for it. Why should "investment" income go untaxed when that poor part timer at the big box store has to see more than a quarter of her pay go to taxes. There has been a concerted effort to concentrate all the wealth in America in the hands of very few, who expect the rest of us to be beholden to them. I don't want to redistribute the wealth from the carpenter and the entrepreneur to the single mother or the old Vietnam vet; I want to redistribute the insurance executives, the commodities brokers and the "investment managers" ill gotten gains. I have long noticed that the pay for work is inversely proportional to the difficulty and importance of that work.
The "consultant for legal affairs" gets hundreds of thousands in compensation while the single mother gets nothing. Yet which is more important, mothering or consulting. I will argue that Mothering is the Most important Job in the World. It can have the best results if done well or the worst results if done wrong. Yet single moms who have the hardest job of all are often badmouthed and blamed for societies ills, despite the utter lack of social support for their neccesary work. The world is as ever, upside down. At least people should not bew confused as to who is really doing them wrong, the real culprits shield themselves well.
Yah, you betcha those Swedes are picky about who they let in. They have to be what with living next door to all those Norwegians! LOL
I am an American, I believe in freedom. I do not believe, taking my choices by mandating government programs is freedom. I do not believe, taxing people to control them is freedom. I do not believe, a single mother is going to benefit from taxes. I do believe a single mother will benefit from hard work and a job that hasn't been cut because some high-up confused leader says tax tax tax. You can't run small business, with the excessive taxes. High taxes is what drove corporate class out of country. Government taxes everyone when they tax corporate class. Gasoline goes up, every thing goes up because it has to be shipped and it can't be shipped for the same price as before. Same with taxes, these companies will raise prices or cut jobs to offset cost. That will hurt the single moms. But, people that are caught up in tax the rich and punish the corporate class will never get it, and I know I am wasting my breath. I don't believe in punishing anyone Rich or Poor, I just believe all should be FREE.

I quit reading your thoughts after that.
Gotta love rednecks!
"Hello, is this the FBI?"
"Yes. What can I do for you?"
"I'm calling to report about my neighbor Virgil Smith. He is hiding
marijuana inside his firewood!"
"Thank you very much for the call, sir."
The next day, the FBI agents descend on Virgil's house. They search the shed where the firewood is kept. Using axes, they split every piece of wood, but find no marijuana. They sneer at Virgil and leave. The phone rings at Virgil's house.
"Hey, Virgil! This here is Floyd. Did the FBI come?"
"Yeah!"
"Did they split your firewood?"
"Yep."
"Happy Birthday, buddy!"

You say that you quit reading Bella's post after reading,
"Most of the wealthy people in America did not get to be so by hard work, but by taking unfair advantage of their fellow men or by being so fortunate as to have inherited their wealth and social position."
Did you quit because you disagree based on facts or just didn't like hearing it put quite that way? Just curious ??
Unfair advantage? They didn't work hard for it, so take it away? Why don't these people have the same attitude when poor don't work hard for it or have an unfair advantage. I say put a annual cap of 100,000 per Hollywood employee the rest goes to taxes. See what happens to Hollywood then. LOL, Facts???? Most of us work hard so our children can have a better life than we had VIA Education or have something to start out on, maybe saving for that big wedding your daughter might want. Well, maybe the Government should tax all savings that isn't going to the poor, because those who inherit it do not deserve it because, they didn't work for it. Or maybe just because children should start out with nothing because they didn't earn it. If I save 600,000 that I want to give to my daughter when the times right, then government decides to take 250,000 of it, why would I put effort into making a business grow, if I new that my hard earn money was going to be taken anyway? I agree a lot of people get inheritance, thanks to Mr. Clinton the place I worked had to sell out to a bigger company because of an inheritance tax. The children didn't earn the company so they must share their inheritance. Makes perfect since to tax those who don't work hard for it. Just because their names weren't on the payroll doesn't mean whole family didn't take part in building that company. Because of taxes they couldn't afford they had to give it up. Thus selling to another company run by nun other than a very compassionate liberal by name of Mr. Warren Edward Buffet. Although I do not care for his way of liberal thinking. I would not say tax or punish him because he didn't earn it. I know that he would find a way to offset cost. VIA raise prices or cut jobs. I read all the post of Bella, I will have to say I disagree with him all the time, I would also say he has a passion for what he believes in and has a sincerity that's clear to see. Maybe someday he will see the light. LOL
There is a certain amount of money a person can earn by working for it. Most of us in our entire lifetimes will make a million, (or so if we are highly skilled and well paid) Why then should a guy who pushes numbers around on a computer in Italian shoes think he deserves hundreds of thousands of dollars to do his unessential work. Plumbing, now that is important work, you have to have lived without plumbing in order to really appreciate it. Plumbers get paid well, usually $60-80 per hour. This is good and just. I think the plumber deserves any tax breaks he can get, however the plumber isn't the problem, the commodities broker in the afore mentioned Italian shoes is the problem, because by manipulating commodities futures to make money on the margin, he drives the price of the pipe the plumber needs up as well as the price of the gas for the plumbers truck. We have seen dramatic seesaw variations in the price of both copper and the price of gasoline in just the last year. Copper was up to $4 a pound and co-incidentally gas was up to $4 a gallon. Both spikes were entirely artificial and engendered by our Italian shoe shod Commodities Broker buisily getting his, and facilitated by the dismissal of financial regulations enacted the Last time this collective stupidity happened in 1929!
Andy H was thoughtful enough to state his meager income in an earlier posting, and I would agree, he makes far too little for him to suffer any taxation whatsoever. I just want to tax the socks off those who parasite of those of us who do work and siphon off billions in the process. The problem is that there is "corporate class" has rigged the system so that they can live without having to work like the rest of us drones. they invent financial scams like "life insurance, mortgage insurance, health insurance" and use raw fear to sell it to those they wish to exploit. Some forms of "insurance" have even become a sort of manditory extortion, especially in the case of health insurance here in Massachustts. Manditory health insurance, we were told would bring costs down by requiring universal participation. Sheerest Bulldada! The extortionists have jacked the rates obscenely and they still refuse to cover injuries and ailiments for specious reasons. and the Jerks who came up with this farce wear Italian shoes and drive Lexuses or Benzes (Mitt the Sh-t Romney that cultist swine had a lot to do with this treachery on the public). To tell the truth money can buy happyness, but only if you have none and receive some, and thereby can make your needs for that day. If you have lots of money, more will not make you happier (even if you think it will). It is far cheaper to succor the poor than succor the rich, as the appetites of the rich are so much greater. I know a wealthy woman who's inheritance brought her great happiness, she gave it all away and made many more people happy, which made her even happier.
Greed is never a positive social value, Sharing is the positive value. Like the old phrase suggests, everything about getting along with people you (should) learn in kindergarden. However if the Headstart program doesn't get funded you get some kids who get to go to kindergarden (and learn proper social behavior and more's) and some kids (poor kids maybe) don't. When the kids grow up (as they usually do)Some of the kids are going to know how to behave and some wouln't have a clue. In a Civil Society shouldn't everyone be civil to one another?
Right now the burden of taxation is on the middle and working classes who wind up supporting things like bank bailouts, "farm subsidies" to huge agribuisness concerns actively driving family farms off the soil and ruining aquifers as well as tilth with monocropping and biocides. Limit subsidies to farmers who improve their tilth and grow non toxic foods and a lot of money will be saved for helping poor working mothers and old handicapped vets. Simply reworking the system so that beurocracy does the jobs it is created for, rather than wasting so much on self perpetuating bloat would save millions. And we have to find a way to do it or the lampreys will suck the sturgeon dry. Still whatever happens we cannot afford to neglect either children or old vets who spilt their blood and came home wrecked for politics. And that means somebody has to put up with some taxes. I say only this, tax those who can afford it and retrieve ill gotten gains. If a church participates in politics (like the Mormons for instance) they should loose tax exempt status. If a company relocates off shore they should loose access to government contracts. Companies that ship their manufacturing overseas (loosing opportunities for American Workers) they should be penalized for the harm they cause the persons they once employed. All I have been saying is that the corporate class has rigged the system for their own benifit too long and it has to stop. Teddy Roosevelt was known as a "Trust Buster" because he curtailed the power of the "Robber Barons". He did it in response to very similar situations in his time and it worked. He was a Republican (at first), later he started his own party "the Bull Moose Party" because he didn't think he was going to get a nomination and he felt he wanted to run again, but that is a different story. Still if you don't like what one Roosevelt did, look at the other!
Revenge sounds like the only way the rich will ever get whats coming to them, tax their socks off, that will show um. LOL, All my insurance has worked well for me. My dad had an operation in the mid ninety's if it were not for private insurance he wouldn't have had a chance. Sure it was expensive, but his insurance covered it for the most part and he's alive. Not many people survive large brain tumers then go back to work after a year. That's right, my dad worked hard for what he has. Doesn't draw checks because the rich have and unfair advantage. My dad is not rich, but he worked for what he has. Now the government wants to tax tax tax what he has. My Grandparents worked hard all their life to have what they do. My Grandfather new how to save for retirement. They saved and sacrificed, now my grandmother has money. But because the government wants their share. They tell her how much to draw out each month, just so they can tax her income. And might I say she lives in good old land of California Liberal central. Tax Tax Tax. But, what about all the taxes that was to help um, guess taxes weren't high enough to keep the state from going broke. I'm not poor, no I didn't make much last year but I own a home, have two vehicles paid for and have money in the savings with out any government help. It's not how much you make it's how you spend it. I have my pride, I'm proud to be an American where I can work for what I get. And I don't call on others to suffer so I can have a chance to survive. I take it upon my self and I have fiscal responsibility. Right now banks are going bankrupt because of an artificial bubble in loans. People who could not afford a house, were giving houses like it was a right, VIA Fanny mea, Freddy Mac. Government subsidized loans insured by the government. Many banks forced to make loans to people who had no business getting loans. And who gets the blame, oh not the all mighty Government, But those Evil Rich people. Use to be that you had to meet certain standards for a loan, thanks to Carter and Clinton, everyone should have the "right" to own a home. You can only survive on credit for so long, sure at first you can buy what ever you want and fell so free. But someone has to pay for it.
And when Trillions of Dollars in debt and printed money catch up, It will all be the rich peoples fault, guess what if your being taxed your rich. And when all this catches up to the bubble of the future. You watch it will be those evil rich people again, not the almight Governments of the World.
Liberals always like to make it a class warfare. That way they can buy more votes. We should take it upon ourselves to work hard, quit thinking it's the riches fault place the blame where blame is due, stop stealing from rich people, roll up our sleeves and go to work. Let people keep thier own money. I'm not begging them to give me a hand out. I'll make a way, It use to be called America.
I think it's high time that Government made some cut's and not in Military Defenses either. I'm talking everything else and give the money back to the people who paid it in. Our nation is spoiled with socialist programs.I think it's high time that Government maid some cut's and not in Military Defenses either. I'm talking everything else. Our nation is spoiled with socialists programs that don't work, they just add to the problem.
Its a strawman used to incite class warfare. Used mostly by Hugo Chavez type tinpot dictators to control the poor, both financially and intellectually.
Making a profit is not taking advantage of your fellow man! The risk takers are the people who deserve the the bulk of the rewards. Have we so drifted away from the principals of an independent working society that that we whine when we don't get our fair share! Work and work hard for what it is that you desire and in my life time you could achieve it. As we drift closer and closer to the ideals of socialism, we lose more and more of the very spirit that made us the envy of the world. Please don't take the thrill of success and replace it with the complacency of a government dole.
You have been living in a "socialist"country since the late 30's (and likely longer than that) Do you like getting overtime if you work more than 40 hours and do you willingly accept unemployment checks when you get laid off? Socialism. Does your old granny get SSI? Does your developmentally disabled cousin Freddy get SSDI? Socialism, by the way are You willing to totally support your old grammie And Freddy (who is age 37, now weighs 375 and likes soap opera)? Socialism to the rescue! How about those Socialist community colleges and the very socialist interstate highway system. How about public water systems as well as sewage. Then there is all that extremely socialist public transportation. Ya wanna do without all this socialism? You wouln't believe the wailing that will result if even one of these Socialist notions gets dumped. Like it are not we live in a Socialist state and whatever label you like for your politics, unless you are an Anarchist, you are really a Socialist. But you can call it what you like, invent some new name if it pleases you but Handsome is as handsome does, and most of the Social programs on which so many depend are inspired by Socialism.
Government is supposed to be responsible to people and not neglectful, especially in a land supposedly by, for and of the people. So who should government assist? Naturally the People!
If you have a rich man and if he looses his money he becomes like everybody else, and has to find some work to make his daily bread. In other words, when the wealth goes away the rich man becomes normal. Take a poor persons income away and you have something different. You have a desperate person (unless some kind of help is delivered) and desperate people will do anything they can to survive and feed their children. Right now, theft is on the rise, breakins, bank robberies, and other crime is up (at least one could infer this from the police blotter). Crime is up because people are being pushed to the wall. We are approaching 10% unemployment already, all because the goons in the corporate class crashed the economy. Is it better to deny assistance to the hungry and jobless, then cluck your tongue (and load your gun) when presented with the inevitable crime wave that happens when people become too hungry to care about the law? Even the Romans felt the need to succor their vast indigent population with bread and circuses. This was because they could do the math, they could repress some (scapegoating christians) but they knew they hadn't the means to repress everyone. The "complacency of the government dole" (nice phrase that) is better than rioting in the streets and the breakdown of social order. Perhaps a few would rather that the government machinegun people in the streets as long as they didn't have to pay taxes, but it doesn't work that way because the guys with the guns WILL be paid (requiring taxation).
I have never said that making a profit is wrong. However price fixing and monopolies are wrong. When one corporation uses shareholder funds for a hostile takeover of an economic rival, which it then shuts down, putting people out of work is also wrong, especially if the corporation that survives then massively increases the prices of it's good or service due to having eliminated the competition. It is also wrong when a company acquires other companies, spends the workers pension plans, then lays off everybody (except management) and ships the manufacturing equipment overseas where they can pay a buck an hour, require 70 hour workweeks and pay employees a buck an hour. The independent hardworking society we all value is under threat by the magnates of the corporate class, remember my town used to have an independent hardware store, till Walmart drove em out of business. Big eats small, unless the small get teeth like paranah fish and band together in large numbers. Did Mitt Romney take a risk with all the companies he dismantled? I doubt it, (he wouldn't get his shoes dirty) but the workers whose jobs went overseas certainly had some risk put on them.
I offer as my final example Bernie Madoff. Anybody think he didn't deserve what he got and should have been left alone to enjoy the results of his Ponzie scheme? Well his wasn't the only Ponzie scheme out there, ya think?
Amen Bella
Once again I cant get past the first paragraph of your diatribe. I can not believe that anyone would actually extol the virtues of a broken social security system as exhibit A in a push for socialism.
Government is making monopolies and price fixing how each individual will prosper, with control, everyone will make the same except policticions. No rich people no jobs, except, Government jobs "Socialism". And, it's all slowly coming faster than we know. And its people like, Bella and WA Mtnhunter, That are caught in the mentality that all men are created equal, but only if limited by Government that will make the change.
AndyH
You are as full of beans as a grande burrito! You bet I think all men are created equal, but the rest of your statement make no sense at all. What is it you are really trying to say? I'm not sure you even know yourself.
I seldom agree with Bella politically, but she has posted some interesting commentary that should wake some of you sedentary potatoes up and spur you to action. I think we went to different schools together that taught individual liberty and limited government. Our country has been steaming down the socialism tracks since FDR, with a few bumps along the way. Get a grip.
WA Mtnhunter,
Sorry, you think I called you a name? Seems most of the time liberals resort to name calling.
I agree we are heading toward %100 complete control of government, "Socialism." I assume by your "amen" that you completely agreed with the previous statement of Bella's.
What I see in Bella's thinking is, that men are created equal, only if Government enforces wage caps and control of the rich, the rich make it difficult for every man to be equal, so control them. In other words Bella seems to believe, Individual freedom is not given by God as our founding fathers stated, but by Government Control.
I do agree we have been and are heading toward "Socialism." Yes I know FDR started Social Security Act in 1935. And endless social programs there after will never seem to stop as long as "We The People" insist that Government has a responsibility to take care of all our social needs. I believe "socialism" is a about control not help. I'm not good with words, so you may not understand, I find that to be my fault in most cases.
Oh, and buy the way I'm 6'1" and 195lbs and not from being a sedentary potato. Thanks, for the complement though.
People should have equal rights, but people are not equal. Some people are just better than others.
Well, I'm not sure where you define wealthy...but the upper 50% of the wage earners pay @97% of all tax collections, and the lower ones only @3%. The upper of the upper pay a disproportionate share of that too, the Top 1% of earners = 37% of taxes paid, the next bracket 2-5% accounts for another 20%. So about 57% paid by the top 5%. Especially as this is for Personal Income Tax only, and many of the more wealthy have much of the income taxed (some would say double taxed) by in the Corporate returns of those corporations they control/own.
Also, this is of those filing returns. The percentage of people whose income is, because of deductions/exemptions below where they have to file returns, and with things like Earned Income tax credits, actually get more back than they might pay, is huge...something like 40% of the populace. And of course, the lower earners pay at much reduced rate anyway.
Some quick statistics: The top 1% of earners pay 21.20% of all taxes paid at an average rate of 24%, the top 2 - 5% of earners pay 14.55% of all taxes at an average of 18% (Top 5% pay @36% of all tax) The bottom 50% pay 3% of all tax collected at an average rate of 2.98%.
Took that from wikianswers.com

As my good friend Roy D. Mercer would say, "That's about a ripe ass-whoopin' size" LOL
As a good friend of mine would say, there's always somebody bigger, tougher, and more full of it. LOL,
I think I'm more full of it than most, bigger and tougher not so much. I weight 240lbs about 3 years ago, driving a truck will do that to a man.
Now that was clear communication ! LMAO
"We are socialists, we are enemies of today's capitalistic economic system for the exploitation of the economically weak, with its unfair salaries, with its unseemly evaluation of a human being according to wealth and property instead of responsibility and performance, and we are all determined to destroy this system under all conditions."

Sound Familiar to anyone??????
Andy, you say you do not want America to change, yet change is the only constant we have in life. I would be curios how you would attempt to prevent change happening and preserve the idyllic America that surely exists in your mind, if not in reality.
You have never responded rationally to any of the questions I have put anyway, you have merely quoted documents or statements from others that only tangentally address the issues I have posed. So I ask again, are you willing to take care of all the elderly and disabled persons in your own extended family (and pay their private health insurance premiums) all on your 24k a year? How will you then eat, yourself? When you loose your job, as you might, will you then continue to support all of your sick and old family members, or will you abandon them at Emergency rooms in some other state? If you do not want the homeless fed, do you prefer them shot? What about those old Nam vets, unhoused and kinda crazed from PTSD, wasting away from their attempts at alchoholic self medication for their old battlewounds. The Bushies made big noises about the sacrifices vets have made for us then went and cut millions of the VA budget, left parapeligic vets to rot in squalor and happily generated thousands more wounded and crazed vets with their own trumped up war (to be abandoned in turn). Are you a vet, Andy? Did you ever serve? I did. I give a damn about my former brothers in uniform, and the greatest injustices have been done to those who have lost any chance of a normal life because they chose to answer the call. If you ain't into helping moms perhaps you can agree with supporting vets who gave up their lives and limbs for you. But that could take a Socialist type program funded by taxes on rich people...
I await his response with baited breath.....
And no, Andy, I'm not a liberal.....LOL
I think that goose is the perfect avatar!
That was a good one Carney!! I had not heard that one yet.
My family cares for our old and feeble. We don't ask for help and with the network that we have established we don't have to. No one in my family has money, we have something worth a lot more, we have pride. In my family if fat Freddy doesn't work, than to hell with him, he's made his choice. Let him die on the sofa. This country has all of the safe guards in place today simply because people have lost their desire to do anything but whine about how they can't make it and how somebody has more than they do. I'm glad that I won't be around for a whole lot longer to listen to the sniveling, worthless, lazy leeches carry on endlessly about what the government and rich people have to do for them! 40 hour weeks! Are you dreaming? We average 60!! Are we out there begging for scraps, are we groveling for our weekly pittance from the government? We do whatever it takes! My great grandfather did, my grandfather did, my father did, I do, and my son will too and I hope his offspring as well. Food stamps, unemployment benefits, relying on the government for my health care: ARE YOU KIDDING ME!!
I was never a soldier. I always wanted to be, but they wouldn't take me-no branch would. Every year my family gives up portions of what we generate to provide for our vets. They gave up plenty for me, and I believe in paying my own way in every facet of life.
right there with you liberty first we need to get rid of these "hand-outs" its one thing if you realy can't work but not working because you decided to be a stoner and loose everything you have, or leave your country and come here for the free ride, or the people who can't find good paying jobs so they don't work at all i say thats bs suck it up and find a job some money is better then nothing go work at a mcdonalds if you have to. maybe you'll have to work two jobs if thats what it takes do it. its not fair you guys (i don't have a paying job not because im lazy but nowhere will hire until your 16) who work those 60 or even more hours to have a good chunk of your paycheck taken out to support the people to lazy to work
sorry that was realy off topic
None of these guys seem to want to address the notion of how we address the needs of those our nation has used up and discarded, that is Old Disabled Vets.
I agree that Fat Freddie should have to work for his twinkies, however I have worked in The 'Tard Gulags before and the question becomes this- How you gonna make him? Having had the misfortune to have had to work with several "Freddies" I must say that you cannot imagine the havoc some developmentally disabled adult can create in a tantrum! I used to (jokingly) requisition trank dart guns and tasers in staff meetings! I had to duck flying furniture or appliances many times and I also had to use my martial arts skills to disarm my "clients" on several occasions when they were threatening mayhem. Yet we'd call the cops and the cops wouldn't arrest 'em, cause they were 'tards. LEO's didn't want anything to do with em. I eventually decided they weren't paying me enough by half and walked, but you get the idea about whatever to do with a problem like "Freddie" .
But what do you do with em, Prison costs like 60,000 per man per year. I get it, you want to reinstitute slavery, here in the "Land of the Free". Remember, just shooting em looks bad. Whatever solution a body comes up with, it has to be "good", because the gummint can't be officially "bad" or it becomes "evil". And if "evil" is okay, then whatever is the problem with Kim Jong Il.
Lest, anybody misread things I feel that Kim Jong Il is a turd wearing sunglasses.
Correction bella, Kim Jong Il is a turd with some well deserved Cancer, wearing sunglasses
I hope he dies from the clap.
I hope he dies from the clap tomorrow.

The state of our VA hospitals is disgusting. Our veterans receive the worst medical attention in the nation. The government simply can not run this program and we are left with disastrous results. This is the very same government that wants to take over our nations care, even after their own accounting office says that it can't happen with the current numbers and would probably wind up costing every tax payer approximately 60% of their income!! I am inclined to believe the 60% number because I have many friends from Quebec and they all tell me that they pay through the nose for the inferior care that they receive.
I believe that the government policy has to be for veterans to get their health care through regular civilian hospitals and the military has to pick up the tab. Our veterans deserve the best care that is available and that care can't be doled out by the government!!
I fail to see how anyone can look at Social Security, VA hospitals, or any other government ran program and then have the nerve to say that we need more government programs.
Baffles me.
We should all be demanding the Govt. be less in control of our lives, not more. Show me one thing the Govt. does well.
It is a very ignorant comment to make that no one gets rich by working hard. When did our society become crybabies? If you don't get enough money, get another job, not a welfare check. If you are disabled or unable to work then it is fine, but I see lots of people that get checks every month that have never had a job, or even tried to get one. Why reward these people when someone went from nothing, got a great idea and became rich? They take all the risk of going broke on their own and make it, then you want to take half their money. Then they let some of their employees go just so they can pay bills. Does not make sense. I Am 25 and look forward to trying to get rich by ranching. I DONT WANT SOMEONE TO GIVE ME ANYTHING. I want to live my dream and take care of my kids and family, I may never be rich, but I should get the chance. The direction we are going I won't.
My next thought of mine is why a persons decision to vote on someone would be for cigs? Not very informed if you vote for someone and then quit liking them within a few months of their Presidency. I was able to see he was the wrong person for the job long before the election without him banning cigs, or anything else that he has done or is about to do.
Last thought. I think it is a rediculous notion to think that someone should investigate the Bush administration for any reasons. He won the war, Made a new democracy in this world, thrwarted other attacks that were being planned by terrorists on The USA, and put terrorists in prison. Since when did being against an enemy of the USA and making hard decisions to protect us make you anything other than a hero?
I will second that Logan Vandermay! George Bush made plenty of mistakes but could you imagine what would have happened to this Great United States of America had Al Gore been president during 9/11.
Work hard, play harder, say prayers with you kids and kiss you wife at night!
This has been a very interesting Post!!!!!!!!
I believe that 9-11 would not have happened, had Al Gore been allowed to take the office he actually won. Remember Bush was APPOINTED by the Supreme Court in a Partizan Split. Al Gore had the popular vote. For one thing Al is just plain a hell of a lot smarter than Dubya, who bragged about his "C" average in "B" school. There was significant warning of 9-11 but it was Ignored by the Bushies and then exploited mercilessly for propaganda and the ensuing war in Iraq. Did you read Al's books? I did.
Bush did not win the war he started. The army got bogged down in urban fighting (just as predicted by Bush 1's advisors in Gulf 1), what happened is Dubya staged a photo op on a carrier deck and claimed we won, which was a bald faced lie, how many died after he declared victory thousands of miles from the fighting.
Bush condoned torture, while claiming he didn't. We didn't torture the f-ing Nazis, though they tortured our guys in WWII, because we were the good guys and good guys don't stoop to such tactics. As far as the "new democracy in Iraq" it ain't "made" till it stands on it's own after we get the hell outa there.(which I rather doubt). I am not aware of even one serious terrorist threat thwarted by the incompetant hacks of Dubya's cadre. What-Padilla? Not serious.
Bush lied, men died. Or does anybody seriously think Sadaam had anything to do with 9-11, which was the excuse shouted at us again and again. The reason for going to war was obvious when the no-bid contacting to the very corporations formerly employing the vice president. War for private profit is treason to the good name and sacred mission of our armed forces, of which I am a veteran. The boondoggles and waste in Bushes war still make me seeth with ire, especially now when it is also obvious that the reckless deficit spending on the war as well as the deregulation of the financial industry load to the economic collapse that has ruined millions of citizens. If anyone doesn't see the connections they must be blind or wearing willful blinders...Why would anybody value such veniality and corruption!
I knew I'd get you fired up, again! I believe that Al was in an office for eight years that could have helped him notice the impending attack. I think that he may have been too worried about how hot it gets in the summer though. As previously mentioned, W made plenty of mistakes, as did Clinton, as has Obama (not including the ones that he is about to make and not mentioning the ones that we don't know of yet). All presidents are going to make mistakes, as are all men, but if your mistake be lead with the intention of betterment of man kind then I think that your mistake is granted. As for me, I'd rather go out fighting then just simply allow others to attack me or support those who did. Bush didn't plan the attacks of 9/11, as you would have us to believe, but he did react and that is what this country needed at the time. As for me, if someone is planning an attack on me or my family, I'm going to do whatever it takes to find out what it is. And on my final day, God and God alone will be my judge!
I never suggested that Bush "planned the 9-11 attacks" I will say the record says that the Bushies were warned more than once that something was going down, by members of the Clinton administration and they dropped the ball because their eyes were on the fight they wanted an excuse to start (with Sadaam and all that oil) as opposed to the fight that was coming. I will say that Bush blatently used 9-11 for political ends, and his response to the crisis was not effective. I will always remember that whole week, as well as the incomprehensible suggestions given by "civil defense". Duct tape and plastic sheeting, my ass. The "rainbow" terror threat indicator. Whoops the terror threat is Red! better bend over and kiss that heinie goodbye!
1RutNBuc, the thing is that the Bushies were warned, repeatedly, but were too busy going after their political agenda to pay any attention. So the Commander in Chief sits and reads "My Pet Goat" to children when we are under attack and doesn't even stop reading! (must be a truely fascinating read). He could have stood up and said "Kids, I'll have to finish this later, Our country needs me right now" and left. Note that Cheney immediately bunkered up, who was really running the show? I don't think it was Dubya...

I agree that the W bunch appeared to be asleep at the switch, but the Clintonista's were not much better. Billy Bob certainly failed to take decisive action following the 1993 attack on the WTC, bombing of USS Cole in 2000, and simultaneous attacks on U.S.embassies in Kenya and Tanzania in 1998. Big Al was too busy with his political agenda or re-inventing the internet or something to do squat, as well.
Al-Quaeda was plotting the 9-11 attacks long before the 'Bushies' were in the White House. The terrorists were given the rightful notion that America was unwilling, unable, or just too busy with self-indulgence to do anything about the terrorist threat. Al-Quaeda should have gotten the El-Kabong! long before 9-11! Bush should have read Sun Tzu's 'Art of War' instead.
I think we need to recognize that we have had a bunch of scoundrels running our government for the past half century nad it is high damn time that 'We the people' demand better!
I can certainly agree with the last statement! And correct me if I'm wrong, but I believe that we knew of Bin Laden during the Reagan Administration. Now we just need to find an electable candidate that will stand up for our foundation and against political persuasion.
I first became aware of Bin Laden in 1990 during intelligence briefings on deployment to the Persian Gulf region. His name kept popping up related to various activities until my departure from service in 1998. He and his group's intentions were well documented. I cannot divulge further, but there is tons of info out there on him. Need to put out a good smackdown!
Two thoughts to Ponder.
"How do you tell a communist Well, it's someone who reads Marx and Lenin. And how do you tell an anti-Communist It's someone who understands Marx and Lenin. " ~ Ronald Reagan
"Hillaroid, the nation’s leading cause of lower back pain"
If you don't agree with someone, say why. Don't just give out -1's to express your disagreement. Sound off if you got a pair! (sorry Bella)
The first time I heard the name Bin Laden was during the Iran-Contra hearing in ,I believe 86-87. Oliver North stated that Bin Laden was the greatest threat to our nation in the world at that time. His name was known to every president from Reagan on down to Bush. At one point our military had him contained and Clinton refused to give the command to take him. I think that this was right after Waco and Clinton still had his thumb in his mouth and a security blanket over his head.

I personally think that your as looney as some of the people you said that you took care of. I've never agreed with you about anything but I look for your posting every time out. It really is interesting that you see just about everything 180 degrees from my view. Keep throwing stuff out there, I respectfully enjoy reading what you write.

I have to say that after reading your posting you probably shouldn't vote for anyone ever again.
Once again I cant get past the first paragraph of your diatribe. I can not believe that anyone would actually extol the virtues of a broken social security system as exhibit A in a push for socialism.
Now that was clear communication ! LMAO
They gave up plenty for me, and I believe in paying my own way in every facet of life.
right there with you liberty first we need to get rid of these "hand-outs" its one thing if you realy can't work but not working because you decided to be a stoner and loose everything you have, or leave your country and come here for the free ride, or the people who can't find good paying jobs so they don't work at all i say thats bs suck it up and find a job some money is better then nothing go work at a mcdonalds if you have to. maybe you'll have to work two jobs if thats what it takes do it. its not fair you guys (i don't have a paying job not because im lazy but nowhere will hire until your 16) who work those 60 or even more hours to have a good chunk of your paycheck taken out to support the people to lazy to work
I hope he dies from the clap tomorrow.
Funny. Keep'em com'in.
Uh, AndyH? That wasn't a joke. That's basically the financial news this month.
To Jeff4066: Nice one !
Very funny
Thats good ranger2.
jlfreeborn,
I am close to 15 years older than you, I'm glad to see that you can think.
Very Sad...

Amendment X

Good storys. Real funny.
This is one Crazy As* post!
Bella wrote:
"Most of the wealthy people in America did not get to be so by hard work, but by taking unfair advantage of their fellow men or by being so fortunate as to have inherited their wealth and social position."
I quit reading your thoughts after that.
Amen Bella
Get a grip.
Oh, and buy the way I'm 6'1" and 195lbs and not from being a sedentary potato. Thanks, for the complement though.

As a good friend of mine would say, there's always somebody bigger, tougher, and more full of it. LOL,
I think I'm more full of it than most, bigger and tougher not so much. I weight 240lbs about 3 years ago, driving a truck will do that to a man.
"We are socialists, we are enemies of today's capitalistic economic system for the exploitation of the economically weak, with its unfair salaries, with its unseemly evaluation of a human being according to wealth and property instead of responsibility and performance, and we are all determined to destroy this system under all conditions."
--Adolf Hitler
(Speech of May 1, 1927. Quoted by Toland, 1976, p. 306)
Sound Familiar to anyone??????
I await his response with baited breath.....
And no, Andy, I'm not a liberal.....LOL
I think that goose is the perfect avatar!
That was a good one Carney!! I had not heard that one yet.
sorry that was realy off topic
This has been a very interesting Post!!!!!!!!
Bella
I personally think that your as looney as some of the people you said that you took care of. I've never agreed with you about anything but I look for your posting every time out. It really is interesting that you see just about everything 180 degrees from my view. Keep throwing stuff out there, I respectfully enjoy reading what you write.
Liberty first, It was Abu Nidal that Ollie North Spoke about in those Congressional hearings in 87 < I was in the room when he said it. BUT being as I am old and wonder sometimes about my memory, I looked at the video tape I have of the speech and that is what he actually said.
I find no fault in your thinking otherwise but the Bin Laden part came about right after 9=11 and LTC. North has verified that.
Bella, I admire your writing abilities, you never have "typos" which is somthing I can't say :(. You also write very well and make many good points, you must be well educated,
Having said that, I disagree with your
hate (so it seems) of rich people, it is true many of them inherited wealth, but there are a small percentage. It's also true that a certain percentage made their money by cheating, lying and stealing, gun running, bringin booze into the country during prohibition (Joe Kennedy) Dishonest Stock Brokers (Madoff) and others, and many other dishonest ways. But they are also a small persentage. The majority of them are people who started business enterprises that flourished and met a need. Neiman-Marcus, Walter Chrysler, Sam Goldwyn, Levi Straus (Blue Jeans) and too many others to name here.
Not every one wh is rich a crook. Off my soap box for a while.
Thankyou libertyfirst, I will consider that a complement.
As far as Bin Ladin goes, It was my understanding that he was a muadajeen who went to Afganistan to fight the Russians initially and was happy to receive the guns the CIA provided. In essence we MADE Bin Ladin, just like we fostered what is now the Taliban all to hurt the Russians. Now we like the Russians and don't like the Taliban, go figure. Personally I don't like the Taliban any more than any "religious" group that thinks to impose it's version of faith on others through fear and oppression. Besides I'd look lousy in a burka, although I'd bet they keep the skeeters away at that. I don't think I'd last 5 minutes with the Taliban, I'd have to take a car antenna away from somebody and chastise me some mullahs, (then I'd probably get shot). I'm much too uppity for most religious fundamentalists anyway and far too well armed.
And for the record, I don't see a heck of a lot of difference between Oral Roberts and Ayatollah Khameni. You are not likely to enjoy a nice cold beer with either of them.
LMAO! Give 'em hell, Bella!
Even though I consider myself a conservative (not a Hannity or Rush) and disagree with your positions on some issues, I bet we could sit down and really discuss the world at large over a cold beer and not get mad!
My sister-in-law's dad was a liberal sociology professor at a leading university and he and I never agreed on much, but we had many an enjoyable evening sitting on the back deck with a cold beverage. Him usually with Old Grand Dad and ice and me with a cold one. I miss the debate and his company since his passing. Our best discussions pissed everyone else in the family off and they would retire inside, so we would continue outside with him smoking those damn stinky cigars!
Moishe
You are absolutely correct and I appreciate your information. I d on't know why that piece of misinformation has been in my head all of this time. First mistake I ever made!
Excuse my accidental double posting, my elderly thinkpad developed some inner gerbils...
Bella,
I know you are not suggesting that the government can do a better job at running healthcare than the private sector are you?
Well that's why we have national guard and army, one reports to the president and the other to the state and the president. I have a lot of relatives that live over in England. They have nationalized healthcare over there as I am sure you are aware. Are you aware that when someone is diagnosed with cancer over there that by the time it is their turn to be treated the cancer has become untreatable and they are sent home to die. The same thing happens in Canada. If the government can't run medicare with out running it aground that how in the world do you think they can run healthcare for every American out there. Perhaps you are familiar with the clunker trade in program that the government installed. You would think that a simple car trade would be easy to do. It is a very simple business transaction that tens of thousands of Americans conduct every day. The government is so backlogged with applications from just this one temporary program that the vast majority of people won't even get approved before it's over. I mean the government can't even keep that one little program funded properly for month. When you have private enterprise and a free market you know what you create? Competition, competition is good, it keeps the week or inept from flurishing in business. If you don't like you healthcare provider you can go get another one the same day. In a free market business has to be able to produce the goods or no one will buy it. Oh, another problem with socialized medicine, do you want a government appointed doctor or a doctor who shares similar views to yours. Do you want a proven doctor who has been in business for a long time or some quack that the government says you have to go see. If you believe what Obama is saying about his healthcare plan than you should look at all the other things he has lied about and screwed up already.
Ask aging Veterans about government run health care. How are they making out with it?
Bella
We do live in a capatilist country but are heading towards socialism. If you think that the healthcare bill in congress right now has the same health benefits for you as they get you are crazy. (as are most of your veiws) Like I said, if you don't like your jobs healthcare, get a different job. The reason we are free and not part of Europe is because we fought to get our freedom. Now we have liberals that think we should bend over and let Europe shove it up our &&&. Like I said if you want to live in Europe, move there and quit trying to make me pay for your healthcare, and every other liberal program there is. I am from the US, and maybe my descendents are from Europe, but they moved here for a reason.
Thanks Carney, Yep Ive seen it. Thats about the truth of it.
Bella,
I know I'm going to open up a can of worms here.
Could you please explain to us how "Trickle UP Economics" would work?
Just curious?

Just remember that we are 9 meals away from revolution....
WA Mtnhunter,
Well said.
Yah, you betcha those Swedes are picky about who they let in. They have to be what with living next door to all those Norwegians! LOL

LOL
Moishe, I don't "hate" the rich. I have the greatest respect for men such as Dean Kamen (inventor of the Segway and a lot of other stuff) and Burt Rutan (designer of Spaceship one- the X prise winner). Such men are inventors and innovators and produce things for the general good of all and are rewarded in proportion to their contributions to society. However consider the sad case of Nicolai Tesla (inventor of alternating current as well as much of what gives us our technological society today), other men took sad advantage of poor Tesla and he died pennyless and alone. Kalashnikov (inventor of the AK47) got a better deal from the friggn Soviets (a medal or three and an apartment to live in...).
I like inventing myself and am always bodging something or another together as I am a sort of girl-geek.
No my thing is Marx had it all wrong, he assumed a working class, a boursoisie, and an aristocratic upper class. That does not describe the situation we have today.
If you will allow me to dip into my bag of Sociological observations we have an (old money) upper class, A corporate class, a middle class, a working class and an underclass. The problem is specifically the corporate class, that just didn't exist in Marx's time and this corporate class has shouldered itself into the fabric of society mostly at the expense of the middle class (that class that has lost the most ground socioeconomically in the last 20 years). Previously there was potential for social mobility through higher education, but college tuition fees have grown in proportion to the predatory lending practices and it is much harder for a young person of middle class or working class backgrounds to get the education neccesary for upward social mobility. The way has been blocked by the corporate class. However downward mobility is as easy as ever, whatever benefits the corporate class usually results in many more persons falling into the underclass. The underclass, the homeless, the drug addled and alchoholic and the sick are usually the ones blamed for their situation yet the condition of the mass of such folks is just whipsawed, the collective rugs pulled out from under them. While many may indeed be responsible for arranging their own misfortunes in recent months we have seen many many otherwise innocent individuals and families get hit very hard because of selfish (and just bad) decisions by members of the corporate class. An administration formed chiefly of agents of the corporate hegemony class removed most of the oversights and regulations in the financial sector in order to benefit their own interests and millions lost billions. Compounding this, the same guys (corporate types all) who crashed the economy demanded and got bailout money from taxpayers as well! Then there is Bernie Madoff...
Unfortunately the corporate class has rigged the system so that their golems, the corporations now have more rights than human beings and are immortal besides! It is time to wipe the name of God from the golems forehead and return human beings to primacy! Let corporations return to the context of serving humanity, rather than the present case in which they exploit humanity to no good end. There will always be rich and poor. Those who have had the good fortune to enjoy wealth should remember that all the aspects of a stable society are supported on the backs of others
