Campfire
Here in Michigan, they just eliminated baiting in the lower peninsula. Which personally, I have no problem with. But I'm curious, what's eveybodys thought on baiting. I just go and find a trail going to a crop or bedding area and set up. I think that bait piles do more harm than good. I personally have never seen a mature buck harvested off a bait pile unless it was following a doe in heat.
I think it depends on what type of land you hunt. If your land is very thick, you almost have to bait to ensure a clean shot. If the land is more open, you can go either way. Personally, if I'm looking for a good buck, I prefer not to bait. I have never seen a good buck taken off a bait pile, either, unless he was chasin.
I'll agree with you guys. Baiting is a viable(if legal) way to kill does if you want to manage the herd but it is very rare that good Bucks come to bait in daylight hours. That said, During the rut the whole baited area is like a scrape, all deer-scented up. The bucks will cruise the area, often in the morning looking for does
Being an elk hunter I have never really heard of that out here in CO, the elk just move around too much and too far, has anyone else heard of baiting in the Rockies? I beleive it is not legal so maybe that is a mute point.
I agree with steve, If managing, no problem. Rether then that, keep it at home. Hunting should be a challenge not JUST a waiting game. Also another scenario I would only and already have used it is when I was hunting a small peice of property of 5 acres, and all around me was hunting club land, I had to compete with corn and peanuts against bio logic and other protein inhancers... Its all I could do. But yea, keep hunting clean and fair. thats the fun!
No baiting. Ever.

BAITING IS IMORAL AND CHEATING. IY MAKES HUNTING EAsy AND DISGUSTING
I am against baiting. If you can't kill a deer with out hunting over bait you probably shouldn't hunt.
Baiting is not sporting. It is ridiculous when people say that baiting is the same is a food plot. You dont have to clear an area to put in a feeder and fill it with corn, you dont have to till land to put in a feeder, you dont have to manage a lime a feeder. There is no work to put in to a feeder so it is not sporting and should not be allowed...ever.
In Wyoming you can only bait black bears and even then under specific rules and regs. I had rather hunt as I freely move about the mountains.
In NY you can not use bait piles and I agree with it. You are only putting food there temp. These deer are going to ex[ect food to be there, htne the harsh winter comes in and they have not found the proper food source they will die.
I agree I feel baiting is unfair to the game and does not give the animal a sporting chance in their won natural habitat.
I sure would like to hear from the others in Michigan or Wisconsin that are still baiting, even when it is against the law. It was made illegal when it was proven that nose to nose feeding was spreading bovine tuberculosis and Jimmer Negamanee, I mean, Chronic Wasting Disease. Ironically in Michigan it is illegal to bait, but not illegal to sell corn, carrots, and sugar beets in bulk.
i dont see nothing wrong with baiting
