Which do you prefer? One of these three or mom and pop stores? Maybe Walmart?

I can never decide between Bass Pro or Cabela's. I haven't been to Academy forever. I go to wal mart for my general shopping. The store I try and frequent the most is a "mom and pop" shop near KC called Rogers lures. They have tons of fishing gear(as you can imangtion) and cater big time to us waterfowlers. Their selection of deeks and ammo is astonshing. They are also Matthews and Bowtech dealers.(Sorry for the plug, but its a great local store.)

I love the mom and pop shop because they take the time to treat you right. They know all of the recent fishing reports, they know all of the best gear and setups for what you want to do, and they will teach.
However, they cannot carry the selection that the big boys have, so I often order what mom and pop don't have from Cabelas.

I love bass pro and cabelas. But cabelas kind of screwed me this year, I bought two new game cameras and a week later one with more pixels went on sale. So I decided to take the two I bought back and by the better model. Long story short they didnt give me my full return back, which the cameras hadnt even been open. Also for price I find academy is cheaper but the people (in my experience) behind the gun counter dont know much about.... well anything.

I really like Bass Pro. The prices usually tend to be cheaper than Cabelas too. I personally will never shop at Cabelas again due to an issue that I had with them regarding goose decoys. They told me that they had the decoys that I had wanted in stock, so I drove to Sydney from Denver. (I wanted to avoid the shipping charges and excess handling fees for such a large purchase) Well anyway when I got up there they informed me that they did not have them. They offered that In-Store pick up but that is an extremely stupid concept. A company that I had been very loyal too due to its grand customer service really failed.

I find that the majority of the time Gander Mountain has the best price on guns and a good selection too. i always go to Gander and check first on guns before I go anywhere else.

They are priceless when it comes to local knowledge....spending a couple bucks on some lures you probably dont need/already have can get you a long way if you know the right questions to ask. I don't know if anyone else has received their copy of the new Midway catalog. It is about 1 1/2 inch thick and is layed out excellent. Midway now had hunting clothes too. The new catalog is easy to find things and I find Midway's prices to be some of the best in the industry. I purchase a lot of my shooting and reloading supplies from Midway. Excellent and quick service.

Spend my dollars as locally as possible.
Bass Pro? Not one red cent! Too proud of BP label.
Cabela's? Too expensive! Wally World's cheaper and quicker.
Wally World? Only in cases of "dire" emergency! Then, only as a last resort.
Academy? Good to so-so pricing. Unfortunately, it's not the "shelf" behind the counter, it's the "walkway" behind the counter that's lacking at Academy.
Never been to Gander Mtn or Cabela's store. I have ordered through Cabela's, but same "stuff" is available at Wally World without paying shipping.
I'll spend my dollars at two of the three local stores that "actually" cater to "hunters/shooters". (one local store is owned by a bunch of arrogant jerks, I don't spend my money there, period!)

My brother-in-law bought a Taurus Judge from Academy for about $50 less than Gander Mountain which is the only other option in town for a major retailer. Had issues with it first time firing it and Academy can't look at it, so he has to ship it back to the factory. If he got it at Gander Mountain, their in-house gunsmith would have taken care of it on the spot.

I prefer places with services like that.

I've heard of what Cabelas is doing to hunters by buying up land bordering public state hunting lands and restricting access to the land or charging access. I'm staying away from them. I live within 1/2 hour of two Bass Pros and a Cabelas, so the options are there.

I am tired of Cabela's mightier that thou attitude in their stores. They were more than helpful when their Prairie du Chien store opened but now they seem to think... if you don't like our way of doing business go somewhere else. Also they need to supply twister tails and lead heads (no paint) in bulk. These packaged tails and heads are just to expensive.

Prefer to search for a company here in the USA that sells Made in USA huting and fishing gear.

Try to give business to the local mom 'n pop when I can.

If I can't find what I need, then I go to Cabela's on the net.

Sportsman Warehouse is also a good place for gear.

Dicks Sporting Goods seems to market to the semi-serious outdoorsman only; the type of fella who will purchase new boots after only a couple years of hunting seasons only because he does not know how to break em down with saddle soap and treat them with some good waterproofing cream.

Gander MTN and Fin Feather Fur are my favorites. But I love Cabela's, to bad there is not a Cabela's in Ohio.

Wish I had a good mom and pop store here but sadly dont, the closest to go to for me is gander mtn 45 minutes away. Bass pro and cabelas are about 2hrs so I spend most my dough at Gander.

Sportsmans and Scheels are my favs. I would go to Cabelas but i would drive past the other two stores. Scheels tends to be a sleeper store that no one goes to for waterfowl gear so i usually get some great deals.

Bass Pro and Cabelas both work for me. There is a Bass Pro 45 minutes away and a Cabelas about an hour. So they both work really good

I have Cabelas, Gander Mountain and Fleet Farm to choose from. It works well because the Cabelas and Gander will do price matching and Fleet Farm is often really cheap. I play one against the other and wait for the good deals. If you keep the cash on hand you can work some great deals.

I have always favored Cabelas over Bass Pro due to customer service reasons. I do the most shopping at Walmart and Academy because of location.

I buy most my stuff at local fishin tackle shops, mainly because in western washington they're a dying breed. besides i feel better about forkin' out some cash to somebody who at least knows my name.

Cabelas! The only problem is that there aren't many stores, so the chances are your going to have to take a little road trip to get to one.

Bass Pro here. When we lived in Colorado, would visit the one in Denver monthly and eat at the restaurant attached to it, delicious. No better way to burn some calories afterwards than walk up the stairs and stroll the hunting section.

make one trip a year down to the cabelas in dundee MI...typically dont purchase anything, just a cool store to walk around in and see all the stuff they have. buy all my guns and ammo at gander mountain, and anything else hunting related head up to bass pro. go up to dicks to replenish the tackle box...no mom and pop stores for hunting and/or fishing anywhere near me, and havent ever heard of academy.

never bought anything at wally world, only thing i buy there is a PA hunting license for bear deer and turkey season, one is conveniently located right inside the state line off the highway that i pass on my way to hunt there.

well actually i do have a mom and pop gun store located right in town, went in there once to have a scope mounted on a slug gun and when i got it back the crosshairs were at an angle, so much for that place.

I got a new fly rod for christmas from my kids, from Cabelas. I was so excited putting it in the hard case I broke the tip. Ofcours no one had a recipt for it. I took it to Cabelas kind of expecting a fight. NOPE they told me to go get a new one off the shelf. I don't know if Bass Pro Shop has the same kind of return policy, but Cabelas earned a life long shopper that day.

I have to throw a plug in for Woodbury Outfitters in Coshocton, Ohio. I am in that store at least once a week and only go to Cabela's when absolutely necessary.
