Campfire
Im sure everyone has their favorite deer camp meals, for breakfast, lunch, and dinner. At my camp the famous "cabin eggs" are the favorite for breakfast. We just scramble up 1-2 dozen eggs, and basically throw anything and everything into the mix, ie. hot dogs, sausage, onions, peppers, potatoes, ect. for lunch we just eat what we find, and dinner is usually backstraps, potatoes, and onions, or our "dank dip" when we take a brick of velveta cheese, jar of salsa, and 2 lbs of venison burger and mix it all together and eat it with tortila chips.
What are some of yor deer camp meals?
My favorite camp meal is what we call "Back Woods Stew". It is a mixture of what ever meat we have on hand, ie. deer, rabbit squirrel, etc. all combined( we ussually partially roast the meat over an open fire just browning the outside, then slice it into decent sized chunks) then it is put in a pot and potatoes, onions, corn, northern beans, tomatoe suace, and anything else you want to add let this simmer for several hours. We also do a dip where we use velveta cheese, 2 cans rotel(salsa) and venision. these are both great meals that are relatively simple good luck and good hunting
steaks, chili, pork and sauerkraut. Spaghetti w/ meatballs and venison sausage, to name a few. Cold cuts and leftovers for lunch.
Traditional meal in our camp is at noon on opening day of firearm season. We have biscuits and gravy, made with venison breakfast sausage. Venison bacon with fried eggs. I look forward to it months in advance. After that we are in our stands from sun up to sundown, noon meals are cold cuts and little debbie cakes. We are usually to tired to cook in the evenings, so we usually have little debbie cakes and cold cuts for supper. We always hope one of the older guys will fill their tag early, and assume the role of camp cook for the rest of the weekend, thereby saving us from a steady three day diet of salami, bologna, and oatmeal creme pies.
eyeswideopen, Sounds like fun!
Yum, those sound great. If I get lucky enough to bag something maybe I can try em out!
We always do some deer loins, onions, and mushrooms in a crock pot, with barbecue sauce, ketchup and mustard. We let put it on before we go out in the morning and its all ready when we come in at dark. Def. the way to go if your out all day.
Saturday evening of the first week, our "chef" does a great meal of steaks on the grill with all the trimmings. Good stuff.
There is nothing like the taste of Chef Boy-Ar-Dee ravioli cooked on the engine block of a Chevy 350.
Every meal shared at deer camp is the best meal. This year the best meal was served the first morning as always. We have Uncle Rod's brown gravy and biscuits. It is always worth getting up at 0500 to eat.
Soup beans, stew, chili, sausage gravy and biscuts.
I do most of the camp cooking and my favorite kitchen appliance is the crock pot. I'll use it to cook venison steak stroganoff, garlic chicken, lasagne, venison chili, frito pie, venison stew or a big chuck pot roast. There is always a good meal waiting at the end of the day without having to go to a lot of trouble when we are all tired. With the appetites we work up, there are never any complaints.
