Campfire
I don't know if this is just something me and my buddies do, but we give our guns names that they earn. Kinda like bucking stock, but guns.
I've got a Russian Mosin Nagant that I named Kouz (some crazy Russian war hero) and a Colt 1911 I named King George.
Lets hear it.
Hell no.
I honestly never really thought about that one. I have a trusty shotgun that I have done everything with. I shoot clays(skeet and trap) bird hunt, and I can put slugs through it. I have dropped that thing in the muskeg and bogs of Alaska and it still works great. I will have to think of a name when I have had more sleep.
i call my tc .50 muzzleloader princess buttercup
i agree with wally, i have never thought about it.
I call my 30-30 "whitey" cause it's the weirdest pastel brown color i've ever seen on a gun. And my dad calls all his guns "savage", "killer", "dead deer", ect. (I don't know if it's just spurr of the moment names, or permanent ones)
No
You mean besides "ol reliable"?
Nate
oh yeah. most of my guns have names. you have to take care of them like a child. most of my reenacting buddies have named their flint lockes based on their style. germanic: gretchin, and i have the oldest gun in the group and everyone referes to her as old dirty bas%$#$. quite an endearing name.
I have a machatte that a friend named "old painless"
Ithaca, the 20, etc.the norm when referring to them but not like in FMJ usually, but I do have a Home Defense auto-loader that is commonly referred to as "My Little Friend" yes I agree I have seen Scar Face too many times
No, but perhaps my guns do need names. This reminds me of my best friend's truck he named Betsy, and our Explorer named Jim.
Ok, as I'm writing this I thought of a name for my m70 30-06, Cletus. My new Benelli Nova, and my old Ithaca featherweight 37 16ga need names now.
Browning A-Bolt 338 Win Mag, HOWY short for Howitzer!
O’ I forgot,
25-06.. Quarter Pounder !
6.5x55 Sweed!
22-250 Zippo!
30-06 03-A3.. Old Faithfull! Never has let me down
I named my .300 Weatherby, Meat Grinder.
Sometimes as in black rifle, big black rifle, silver rifle, quarter incher, 33 some-odd (an old friend called it that so it stuck in reverance to a man who knew more about guns than I ever will), little 7, big 7, little 30, big 30, fast .22, not very imagative. I don't know why I even bothered to bore your guys with this.
My .416 has been called SOB several times by people who I should not have let shoot it if that counts.
nope, but i might try it.
Davy Crockett named his smoke pole "Old Betsy" he got 125 bears with it, so it must be a good name. After seeing it on display at the Alamo in San Antonio my youngest decited to name his new single shot 22ca. bolt action Cricket rifle "Old Betsy". He's got a couple of squirls so far... but still no bear.
My 40 year old 870 is 'the meat gun' - dove meat, duck meat, pheasant meat. A hunting buddy and I have named handed-down shotguns for their previous owners - Hutter is a Model 11 Remington named after my father-in-law, and Earl P is a Model 11 named after his grandfather. They are both gone but we still get to hunt with them.
I have a custom made 30.06 that I have named Mother Bell cause it reaches out and touches someone.
I have a Benelli Super Black Eagle that I have named "Uncle Bud" after one of my uncles. I inherited some money from him and bought the Benelli, thus it is named "Uncle Bud."
Although they have not named them, my 15 year old daughter and some of her trap shooting girl friends all have a birthday party for their guns.
I have a 10 gauge I call " Big Bruser", because when I was young it left a bruse on my shoulder. I saw on an episode of Danial Boone that he called his flint lock "Tit Licker"!
Some of them, but not all
I don't. They are all trusted friends to me, though.
Only by caliber, .270, .243, etc. Except for granpa's old Winchester .22 which goes by "Granpa's .22" in an effort to distinguish it from the Viper. I suppose if I had multiples of a particular caliber I might come up with something more imaginative. I guess I need more guns! They all have the power to evoke fond memories of the hunts in which they have participated.
I take it none of you guys ever served. It was MANDITORY to name your service weapon. As for naming now, yes, I do. I've got a 300 Win. Mag. that I call "Bell" you know the old comer. "Reach out, Reach out and touch someone!"
A Marlin 1895 named Thumper 'cause you can hear it go thump when it hits. A Winchester Mod 70 in .300 H&H named 'Code Blue' for its effect on deer and elk.
ELMER FUDD! IT was a within 1/8th of an inch of illegal sawed off double barrel 12 guage with a pistol grip that was held together by duct tape! I don't even recall who made the gun. Elmer actually belonged to a buddy of mine. To fill you all in a little, Elmer spent much his life rattling around in a toolbox on a D4 Cat in bear country in Alaska. From the stories I heard, the thing killed almost as many critters as a North Dakota winter... toward the end there Elmer posed as much danger to the shooter as he did the target, so he found an easy retirement above a doorway with the firing pins welded up...and every time somebody new see's him, the question is posed, "What the hell is that red-necked contraption...?" Thus the legend lives on!
I used to. The last few have not been named. I do have: Helen, Chester, B.B., Excalibur, Wilby, Tracy, Maxine, Thunder, and Shep.
My Marlin 1895-45/70, I call "Buffalo". The rest I call by caliber; my .270, my "Whelen", and the "00-6", and the Black Shadow-.44 Mag...the 9mm pistole is "Petro"(Beretta 92FS)and the GP 100 is the "Ruger magnum".
I am just a kid in a candy store!
I know it's cliche, but the .35 Whelen is "Ol' Deathwind". Not original, but very fitting.
Not really, although I have referred to my turkey gun as the "tominator" before.
I call my .270 "The Nailer." If I shoot at a deer... "IT'S NAILED!"
I have several handguns also. I've named them MissI, MissII, MissIII etc because that's what I usually do!
I've named my TC Encore---SWITCH HITTER---because of all the barrels I have for it.
I had a small carry pistol in Atlanta named Sting, from the Elven short sword.
I have a scoped Remington .30-06 named"the Terminatrix".
No, but i often refer to my Savage '06 as Ol' Reliable.
I have a .338 Mag built on a 1909 Mauser action, I call it "Thunder Speaker."
my ruger #3 in 375 winchester is the mammal hammer
My Remington 870 turkey gun is named American Justice
Hunted since I was 6yrs. old. Enjoyed hunting most of the western states. Had a Match Grade Arms rifle made a few years ago in 300 Weatherby. Only rifle I use now. It has earned its name: Thumper. I have to salt the bullet before I shoot so the meat doesn't spoil before I get to it!!
No, other than by brand or caliber.
I have a 12 ga. 870 supermag that I call Boss Hawg. It is black w/ a synthetic stock and a 28" barrel. I use it for everything from hunting to pest control and scaring away bad guys.
5o cal... smoke pole
savage 270... two seven
25 wssm... shorty
ar 15... bettylou
243... Wifes gun
270 wsm... daves gun...i bought this rifle and my brother borrowed it and that was 4 years ago and i am yet to hunt with it.
My 12 gauge is named H.O.S (Harvester of Sorrows)
No never really thought about it but I will start thinking about it.
My Taurus 9mm is named Bodacious. Haven't thought of one for my rifle though.
only named one gun in my collection, a chrome finish winchester defender 12ga.I had a game warden jump back when he spotted the gun in my truck one day. After that it was dubbed " THE INTIMIDATOR"
i named my mosin vasili
They have to tell me their name before they get one.
My benelli 12ga. is named BOOMER... (all caps only)
Unbelievable! All the guns I owned were already named.
Only one. I own a j.c Higgins model 60 auto loader 12 gauge. That I received from my grandpa. Ever since then, my friends and I have always called it "Granpa". It is my favorite out of the bunch and I shoot it often.
