Campfire
My tires felt wobbly so I pulled off the interstate then across the road and onto the entrance ramp and pulled over onto the dirt.
Tires all attached.
Off over the embankment I spotted a carcass. Walked down and took a look. We've had some warm weather but nights are cold, it's very dry at all times. I figure it had been there a couple weeks. Kind of dried a lot and not too rotten looking. Half wrapped in a sheet.
It had been skinned and the head and feet were cut off. Gutted. I wasn't going to grab a leg and turn it to get a better look but back straps looked to be there.
What the heck?
Someone shot a deer and after skinning and cutting the head off decided they didn't want to eat venison? Didn't know how to butcher?
That was a fairly serious crime sitting beside the road. We frown on that heavy around here.
In some states, waste of game is a felony, and rightfully so. If you can't / won't use it, don't kill it.
Sometimes I kill feral pigs and leave them or just take some choice cuts. "Buzzards gotta eat, same as worms." ~ from the movie The Outlaw Josey Wales
Pig Hunter I do the same with coyotes, and I understand in the mid Atlantic states where they are over run with white tails it's ok to just take the backstraps, but here deer tags are only by draw, they are thin on the land.
Are you sure the animal was shot? It could have been road kill and the meat was of unknown condition. Perhaps someone harvested what they could.
Skinned, gutted, head and feet gone, wrapped in a sheet.
Did I understand that Rat takes the backstraps off a dead coyote? Wonder how many cats are in his neighborhood? :)
My b homie g i was looking for that deer, it fell out the back of my subaru, im glad you found it.
