Heroes/Villians

Uploaded on November 21, 2009

Field and Stream Magazine Editor,
Dear Editor,
I just received my December 2009 issue of the F&S Magazine and read your 2009 Heroes and Villains Face-Off. It is truly amazing to me the number of people in this world who can focus in on the minor issues of our time while being completely unaware of the much more important and impending threats around us. I often refer to it as people who cannot see the big picture because they are looking down a pipe.
To list Rush Limbaugh as your top villain because of his two statements in support of the HSUS while there are so much bigger threats to the hunting/fishing community is incredible. To not list the biggest threat to our very way of life in America by other individuals listed on the heroes/villains page is astonishing.
Rush’s comments as an “ally” of law enforcement in the “animal realm”, deals with crack down on organized dogfighting and other animal cruelty crimes. Does this mean that F&S supports these activities? The second is outreach to communities of faith, and the moral obligations that we have to be good stewards of God's creatures. Does this mean that F&S does not support these concepts?
I am an avid hunter, but given the influence that a magazine such as yours can have and your irresponsibility, I feel that re-subscription and support of your magazine is neither in my future nor in yours.

This is exactly why I just sent a letter in to cancel my subscription immediately. I support the HSUS and whoever wrote this article should be strung up. This is an obvious politically driven article and the LAST place I want this kind of garbage is in my hunting and fishing mag. I didn't read a page past this article, the magazine was promptly and angrily thrown in the trash.

I'm not the only one who thought this was strange... I have seen the HSUS do good, much more than PETA.

I just canceled my subscription also. I'm upset that I wasn't in the running as a hero. I've trout fished before and evidently that qualifies you as a hero.I can honestly say that the 2009 list of heroes and villians was the most rediculous thing that I have ever read in a "hunting and fishing" magazine. Does anyone believe that President Obama's anti-gun policies are balanced out by the fact that he went fly fishing.

Thomas McIntyre wrote the article and I guess F&S put it in their because it shows what the magazine's true priorities are.

Seriously!! This "heros and villians" list makes you scratch your head. Rush beats out PETA as the most evil person in the country. I'm not sure how Barak Obama can be a Hero and a Villian on the same list?! It just doesn't make sense.

Field & Stream Editors,

I never write in to these message boards, but I read the absurd Dec. '09 Heroes and Villians piece today. Quoting rhart from above "(it) was the most ridiculous thing that I have ever read in a "hunting and fishing" magazine". I agree. I have never read anything else that even comes close. How the author of this short-sighted garbage slipped into your staff is a mystery to me. You are drastically and dangerously out of touch with your readership and the hunting and fishing demographic as a whole to even consider the logic or marketability of this piece. Nothing short of a large, prominently displayed apology in next month's issue will reclaim this long time reader of both F&S and my beloved OL.

Thomas McIntyre has obviously gone soft n the head. He probably always was a liberal............

Rush is a big ol' hot air bag. Anyone who supports HSUS is a bubble off plumb in my opinion.

Thomas McIntyre has the audacity to vilify a private citizen, who has the freedom of speech, and let the president of our country, who's appointees have the power of legislation, off of the hook.

Obama is the most dangerous politician to our way of life, ever.

McIntyre should be fired. My subscription will not be renewed.

Don't know if I'll renew after this one. I lean libertarian/constitutionalist so I am not a huge fan of Rush Limbaugh, but this was retarded. I don't like the HSUS either, but when you put Rush Limbaugh at the top of the enemy's list over psychotic special interest organizations interested in destroying all hunting right (PETA) or Cass Sunstein (who has immense power at the moment as Regulatory Czar) who is, as I write, pushing for the right for animals to sue hunters in civil court. How is this fool in the same league as the other F&S Writers Petzal, McCafferty, Marshall and others. Loose thinking on the part of Field and Stream.

There are definetly larger threats to our outdoor way of life than Rush Limbaugh!
How about the people that are introducing wolves into our backcountry?
I believe MANY things are having more of an impact in our outdoors than a chubby, overzealous radio personality and his opinions.
