People want to know of gear that's fairly priced but is solid and reliable. Times are tough for a lot of people lately.
Many know that much of the cheaper gear turns out to be a bad idea in the long run, so they avoid it. There ARE exceptions. Some things carry a low price tag, but are actually worth buying, and will have you off the porch and hunting (or fishing or whatever) with the big dogs.
I think it would be great if we could all point out any gear that is an exception to the "don't buy cheap" rule. I've been hesitant about some stuff, but went for it if it was user or editor approved. Haven't been disappointed yet.
If you have a $200 scope that holds its zero on your .458 Lott, let us know. If some $50 boots or $10 gloves kept you warm, speak up. If your department store spinning combo conquered a Chinook, post it. If your bargain ammo is shooting straight and dropping game with aplomb, say so.
It doesn't even have to be "cheap", although affordability for the common man is the main point. If you know of an $800 dollar pair of binoculars that seem almost as good as your $2000 Leicas, tell us.
Anything that outperforms the equally or higher priced competition is the aim.
If it has already been mentioned on F&S online or in the magazine, please repeat. Not everyone gets the rag or sees everything on here.
