I woke up this morning like any other day. My children were just starting to get out of bed also and I could hear the little giggles coming from their room.
I sat there for awhile listening to them play. One would come running out of the room like lighting with the Christmas antlers on, while the other would position himself for a good shot with the nerf rifle. When the postiton was set he would give a grunt or two with his mouth.. "erp..erp" and the other would try to sneak his way into the bedroom "safe zone" before getting tagged.
My kids are three and two with the imagination of two 15 year olds. They are amazing! But as I watched them play this morning, I couldnt help but to think of what might have they been playing if they were never introduced to hunting. Would they have had just played a simple game of hide-and-seek? would they not have been playing anything? Maybe the video games would have been on or the T.V.?
The thought grew and grew all morning. I drifted back to when I was a child growing up on the lake. All the wonderous things that I saw, all the adventures I made. I was never the type to sit around and play video games or watch television. As long as the weather would let me (sometimes that didnt even stop me) I was outside. I loved it and it made me the person I am today.
My kids are young and have not even began to touch the wonderous joys in the outdoors. Just by seeing that the lttle taste that they've had has already stuck with them, really gave me a new outlook on things. I believe that now more then ever, we need to give our children whatever taste of nature we can. Get them envolved anyway possible so that the very thing that made us who we are, can help in makeing the next generations even better!
