Anyone here have any vids of your hunts??
Yep I enjoy rabbit hunting, pretty fun for sport and the little guys have some pretty good meat also. We own some property in the mountains, right on the national forest so were pretty lucky, it's fairly wooded with some open pastures, right on pierson park, so feel free to talk over bunny hunting. Didnt know exactly what to reply with.
I use to love hunting rabbits, behind my beagle. But, my beagle passed away and the rabbit population declined in my area. So now I have a GSP and do more bird hunting. However, I will take my GSP out to the fields in late winter, when bird season ends, and if I see a rabbit I'll take a shot. But, I am no longer an avid rabbit hunter. Great sport and I love beagles. Great hunting dog, family dog, and all around friend.
I used to have a couple of pretty good beagles but they have since passed on and seeing a rabbit around here now is like finding an honest member of Obama's administration so I've replaced the beagles with bear hounds and now rabbit hunt with some pals from work who have some pretty good dogs and insist on .410 handguns if possible. We don't kill too many but we have a good time.

Just noticed the double tap here. Not sure how that happened.
Lately the yote population has been up and the rabbit population down so I only got one last year. I don't have dogs so I hunt on foot. However I still enjoy shooting squirrels and the occasional rabbit.
I am excited because I saw five rabbits on my way down to my hunting land this last weekend. Hopefully they will last till winter.
I recently started hunting rabbit again, haven't since I was a kid. Been in the Corps then an over the road trucker for years, not much time; but I'm local now! OOORAAAH! Sorry USMC flashback. lol Anyway, I like hunting the small stuff with my Crossman CO 2 air riffle I find it more of a challenge I don't believe in hunting for sport, I feel if you kill it you eat it or ware it! Got myself a small 5 acr. lot out in eastern Nebraska I can pretty much hunt anything that comes on my land, I just can't remember if it's safe to eat wild rabbit in the summer?
I had several rabbits that I fed table scraps to that stayed right around camp . Several years ago a 'friend' asked if he could hunt the property. I said o.k., not knowing where he was going to hunt. Next time i saw him he said the rabbit hunting was really good, especially right around my camp.
Since then i have put out several cover locations around the brush to keep the hawks and coyotes from getting them. Nothing sophisticated, just some boards on an angle they can hide under. Seems to have helped, the population has built back up.

To answer your question rabbits are not safe to eat in the summer. I was always taught you could eat them in any R month (September- April) However I would wait for the first frost( typically October)to kill all the parasites. Here the season is October - march 15. Hope this helped.
Have any of you built a rabbit gum to catch rabbit? How did it work? any tips?
Thanks knife Freak. l think We're gonna have a short summer so l won't have to wait to long. just dug out the old 22 what the hell is going on?!! l Can't find rounds for it anywhere
Look at your regs to see when season starts and like II said I wait for the first GOOD frost so have fun. I would also use a shotgun so you can shoot moving rabbits and because they are easier to find 6 shot.
We can't find .22 LR because there was a threat of new gun legislation and people were fearful and bought all the ammo they could find. Its starting to get better I just found a few boxes.
