Just the other day as I watched my daily hunting and fishing shows(the channels vary)and I had the same thought that I usually do while watching, how come all these shows have the same turnout? I mean 9 out of 10 times when your watching one of these shows, whether it's a hunting or fishing show, you know by the end of the show they are going to get a chance at the trophy. Now I know that there are the shows that only deal with showing the animals or the adventure behind it, but what about all those times they strike out? All those times that things just went wrong and no matter what they did, they couldn't turn it around again. I know that all of us have had those days when nothing went right. I would like to see a show that is dedicated to those people who dont get the opportunity to hunt on game farms and big ranches with thousands of acres to hunt. I know that the people that run those places put in the time and effort to make it a great experience but I mean it's almost like shootiing fish in a barrel. What about those sportsmen and women that have to find lands or lease lands or those who have to fight to get in a full day of huting or fishing. It's not as easy as the "pro's" make it look.
Also, one more thing, I know that the products that are in the commercial's are what pays for the air time but I think that the producers or who ever is in charge of the marketing for the show, needs to do more research into the products the sell for one and they also need to cut back on the amount that you see. If I sit down to watch a half hour show and I get to watch about 10 minutes of actual show, the rest is all commercial's and bogus ads.

I completely agree. Most of the outdoor television shows make the folks look like all-star hunters, and while they might be, they make just as many mistakes as every other hunter does. And it does get a little annoying with all the products they advertise, honestly how are they testing all those products thouroughly and in that quick of time?..they just aren't.

Nothing more than big business. There are a few shows I still watch like Jim Shockey, Hunt Masters, Eastmans or Bill Dance to name a few but I am daggone for sure not a "Bone Collector" and ever since Burnsworth shot a Mule Deer from 999 yds out of the back of a pickup truck with a .50 cal, I don't have much use for his show either...It is all big business trying to convince us to shell out more of our hard earned money or the only animal that is worth the shot is an 800 plus class record book buck with pink ribbons on his rack....its all balderdash

The somewhat flamboyant Ted Nugent is the only one I've seen that honors the meat instead of slobbering over the antlers counting every button and bump as a point.

I'd also like to see shows that deal more with what we everyday folks do. While it's nice to be able to see a goat or sheep hunt as I likely will never do it myself, I'd also like to see a simple squirrel or coon hunt, or a fishing trip without equipment that looks like something out of Star Wars, filmed in Backwater USA instead of some fantasy locale. The same can be said of magazine articles as well. I think it was American Hunter that ran an article recently on squirrels with a muzzle loader in an effort for the writer to get back to his roots. Ditto the F&S article about the panfish odesey (spelling) down thru the south a year or so back. That was great stuff that I could relate to.

This is why I rarely watch the Outdoor Channel anymore. I love to squirrel hunt and would love to see a show about that. I too will never be to Africa and have no interest in seeing those animals shot. I would like to see some ordinary whitetail hunts in the wild without the fences and baits and if the hunter dosen't kill a buck that is okay too. I don't bow hunt but I don't have anything against it I just never had the time and I don't like to shoot a bow, so I would like to see more rifle hunts, seems like all deer hunts are with a bow. and then they don't know where to shoot a deer with a rifle when they do hunt with a rifle. They shoot behind the shoulder and the deer runs so they are out looking with flashlights or leaving it till the next morning when the meat is spoiled. Drill it through the high shoulder and go up and look at your deer.

I never watch any of these channels for just that reason. It just make it seem like it is all about the size of the antlers or poundage of the fish. It shows nothing of the hunt leading up to it, the hours they spend waiting for the right moment.

Very good topic, I think hunting shows shoudl be about fair chase hunting. There are few shows that actually air fair chased hunting. These shows that show young hot shot archers making 60 yrd shots is pure comical. How many deer has this hot shot wounded that will never be aired? I want to see fair chase hunts, not canned hunts. Show the youth of America how to walk game trails, how to recognize browse and feeding areas, how to find the right tree to hang a stand acording to prevailing winds and terrain.
