Road Kill Tag

Uploaded on August 07, 2009

Yesterday as my son and I are on our way to go fishing I saw an antelope laying in the ditch. It is not common to see one hit by a car. On the way home hours later I remembered were he was and slowed down to get a look. The thing was moving around breathing heavily! I did what I thought was right and called the wildlife office, they told me to go ahead and kill it. I am going down to get the roadkill tag today.I was able to save most of the meat so it wasn't a total waste.I got to thinking that that thing probably got hit at daylight and was alive until three oclock in the afternoon when I killed it. If you hit an animal please make sure he is dead before you drive away.If you are not salty enough to kill it just call the game warden. Thank you

Very good post and I agree 100%, a friend of mine hit a deer with his truck once and he did just that it was during bow season it was an accident he thought he did the right thing and taged it so it would'nt go to waste and when he went through the check station they gave him a ticket for poaching but the judge threw it. Id has some weird laws.

cant let any meat go to waste. i hate seeing rotting critters on the road. you should make sure they are dead and salvage as much meat as possible. respect for the wildlife.

yep don't waste the meat. if you hit an animal and don't want the meat call the cops or the game warden they might know some place that will take it.

I have had to dispatch afew animals that i saw hit and the driver could not finish the job.

In the U.P. of MI, down in the lower half, there is a zoo with a lot of big cats ( tigers, lions, etc.)and wolves. Much of their food comes from road kill that city workers and hunters bring in. Since there is a lot of road kill up here it is nice to see it is not going to waste.
