Small Game Hunting

Uploaded on April 02, 2013

On the message boards I see categories for big game, deer, turkey, ducks, and wing shooters. I don't see anything here to do with small game; rabbits, squirrels, etc. I realize that this is an often times over looked category of hunting especially with other, more glamorous, types of hunting. I think that we as hunters miss some good times by not introducing the next generations to the small game. Also it is an inexpensive way of introducing people who have never hunted to see if they will really like the sport or not. You might call it gate way hunting. Can another category be started for this niche? How about it?

I wish they would start a small game column. I mostly hunt small game beside turkey hunting in the spring. Small game is also more fun to hunt because you can usually get something, unlike turkey or deer hunting where you could wait hours for a single turkey/deer to walk by.

I agree: Small game hunting is great! I spend way more time hunting rabbits and have way more fun than when I hunt deer or turkeys. Small game hunting is great for kids...and oldtimers...and everyone in between!

For the squirrel hunters on here there is an organization for squirrel hunting called Squirrels Unlimited. Does the same for squirrel hunting as Ducks Unlimited and Turkey Unlimited does for ducks and turkey. Check them out at squirrelsunlimited.com . Hope to see some of you there.

I like to squirrel and rabbit hunt after a few days of deer hunting. it helps me unwind after hunting hard. it is nice to just get out and enjoy the woods to.

I hope a category develops for varminters. Perhaps it will if interest is expressed, and this is one way to accomplish that.

So I see three categories that are needed, small game, varmint and Hog.Now I know a lot of hog hunters will say they are varmints too, considering the destruction to habitat, residential and farmland, but they are quite tasty and I think that and their sheer numbers could make a category of their own necessary.

I thinks they need to make a column that combines small game, varmints, hogs, and furbearers. I think it would be nice if we could someone to write a blog on trapping and small game.
