~Training your dog to find sheds~

Uploaded on February 01, 2009

I know there's been some people curious about how to train a dog to find sheds (one of those people were me) so I thought I'd see if I could find a helpful site and share them with you guys. Here's the ones I found-

http://www.born-to-track.com/our-writing/john/sheds.htm

http://www.northamericanwhitetail.com/huntingtactics/ht_0903sheds/

http://www.antlerdogs.com/sitesections/community/articles/ShowArticle.as...

That's all I could find in a quick time looking. Hopefully this clears some people's thoughts and questions about it.

Hmm about 3 years we sold a chocolate lab to a guy and he trained it to hunt sheds, then it got stole.

Thanks for finding those articles T. I almost always take my bird dog with me when I go shed hunting anyway and even though none of them have been trained they still have made some finds that I would have missed.

Most dogs take too it fairly quickly. Just give them sheds to play with as a pup. Then take them out and stash some horns for them to find. Give them rewards for finding them, and you will have yourself a "Horn Dog".
