Wisconsin DNR finally wants our help!

Uploaded on August 19, 2009

Here is what was the email I got from the WI DNR:

The archery and gun deer seasons are approaching quickly. Deer hunters can report their observations of deer and other wildlife species to the DNR through an online reporting form beginning September 12. It will be equally as important for hunters participating in the survey to submit daily observances of no deer or other wildlife species, as it will be to submit observations of seeing those species. The survey will be used as a measure of relative species abundance throughout the state.

Follow these links to learn more about the survey:

I personally think that this is an awesome idea! Think about it this way; we, the hunters, are the ONLY REAL way to get hands on, eyes in the field, type of view. This way now we know that we can help to protect and conserve what is out there, right in our own backyards.

I'm jelous. I think this is a great idea and should be used in here in Michigan too. Set up a standard form and collect data.

I've been observing a way wacked out doe/buck ratio for years. But based on the number of antlerless permits issued for the entire county the DNR has not come to the same conclusion.

They've doing this for years. I have participated. You turn in the data and nothing happens with it. It is like an unscientific poll the wildlife biologists don't pay it much attention. I keep my own records on the properties hunted to determine the animal populations. But it is a waste of time and effort sending it to the WIDNR. Seems to be just a PR stunt.

I did it. I think that the 16 day gun season would be nice only I don't think it's going to be picked.

Its a way for Wi DNR to have the hunters feel like they are helping out in the herd count. Wi DNR has messed up the population bad enough in the north where the doe numbers are extremely low now. Of course that information is not going to be looked at! As far as a 16 day gun season they need to throw that out the window! Wi gun season is about family and tradition if you are going to mess the deer numbers up lets not mess up tradition to! Extend bow season or extend Muzzleloader but dont mess with a WI tradition
