I've seen some decent Smallmouths taken out of Lock 7... I'm looking for places as well

Are you talking about up by the troy dam?

Possibly, I'm new to the area. It's off of troy schenectady road / Rt 7. Lock 7 road is what will finally bring you to the lock, it's pretty popular.

Head up to Lake George or Champlain and fish the islands.

What about if you don't have a boat, and can't afford to charter one?

I've rowed a rowboat out there.

That seems like a long ways to row. I'd rather just fish from shore. Any other suggestions?

Shore is good there too. Try to get away from where the people go.

Ok. Im not to familiar with Lake george, where can I go to get away from the crowds? I know there is a marina about half way up the lake on the west side. Is there anywhere up there were you can rent kayakes for the day and do you know the prices?
