How do I drop shot for Smallmouth, and do I really need flourocarbon in darker water?

I use 1/2oz jig heads for smallies, and I don't think flourocarbon line is necessary for darker water conditions.
I use braid with a flourocarbon leader I'm just lookin for any possible angle that might help even just a little bit,the flourocarbon so they can't see my line as easy and the braid for just a little better sensitivity,I tie my hook about 18 in. up with a dropshot weight tied to the bottom I put on a small minnow or worm type bait and hold my line fairly taut so I can feel weight or light strikes(which aint likely because when they hit it they smash it)I know it sounds like I don't need to do the things I do(if they smash it)I'm just trying to cover all the bases
Flurocarbon is not necessary, use mono. Put the bait around 16 inches away from the weight.
