When I am done fishing and am getting ready to leave, I put my hook or my lure into the handle of my cork or foam fishing handle. This helps prevent dameage to tackle or the eyes on your rod.
I Prefer the 1st one, they hold tighter and don't make you end up with a handfull of hooks when you pick up the rod, and you can move them up and down the blank.
Instead of hooking it through the eye try securing it on the eye bracket and depending on the type of guide it'll not only hold your hook but the point will be protected behind the eye.
my rods all have a hook keeper above the handle except my light tackle rod. on that rod a put the hook through the eyelet support, that way it doesnt scratch the actual eyelet.
I always remove hooks at the end of the day. Usually, when using a lure I have a swivel somewhere on the line and I use that instead of a hook to attach to the eye bracket or hook holder on most rods

This may seem like a good idea, but it still damages you're rod's handles, and those are harder to replace, instead, try these...

I am picky about my rods, I purchase rods with a hook clip attached or I will add hook clips or hook protectors like alex posted above.
will attaching my hooks to the eyes of my pole to store them do any damage, cause that's what i commonly do.
