Bass Fishing
Am I the only one who likes to fish with live bait for bass? I rarely hear of anyone else who does it. My favorite bass bait of all time is the good old nightcrawler. It seems to catch more fish for me than any other method, artificial or bait. Of course it does create the problem of picking through bluegill, catfish, and crappie to get to the bass, but I consider that a good problem to have. Am I the only one out there that likes to fish this way?
Some people equate live bait with cheating. I use live rigged shad sometimes and man the bass nail them. Some of the trophy hunters use live crawdads and sit and watch the line all day for a couple of big bass bites. Pretty slow!
I like to doodle with night crawlers for bass in deep cover. I will also down line or flat line shiners to catch bass as well. It depends on what I'm in the mood for as to what method of fishing I choose.
I find six inch suckers work well also. They tend to be of good size when they hit.
I'm glad to hear I'm not the only one. I think it's my favorite way to fish. It sure ain't cheating though. Just a productive way to fish.

Screw the people who say it's cheating. They probably work for a manufacturer of imitation lures. The best small mouth fishing I ever done was with night crawlers, and I wanted to catch other fish!
Yeah, the biggest smallie I ever caught came on a big, fat, juicy nightcrawler as well. My biggest ever largemouth came on a live green sunfish, and my biggest brown trout ever came on a Berkely power worm. So the strict artificial only guys probably don't like me very much.
I have live bait fished for Bass before and had great success, it's a very popular practice in Florida lakes.
I normally use artificial lures for Bass, but when crappie fishing with live bait, I will catch bass as well.
I see nothing wrong with fishing with live bait although I use artificial 99.9% of the time, its just more convenient.
i havent done well with nightcrawlers for bass i do however like to use live shad or big 10" golden shiners free-lined that can be some real fun until you get 2 good fish and the rods are at opposite ends
When the bite is on,a friend of mine uses a stout cane pole with a treble hook, and piles on the largest night crawlers he can find.
He gets in his boat and dangles the live bait in the darndest places and hauls in whoppers!
Sometimes i do, but not as much as I'd like to. If I have a wasp nest at my house, I spray the adulys. I collect them(with gloves) and take the nest. The dead adults work great on small hooks. They float and if you just twitch em the bass will tear em up. Then pull the caps off the nest and when you find an adult about to hatch, hook him and throw him out. The spay didnt hit the inside, and they doo all the work. They buzz and swim all over the place and it works like a magnet for big bass. Sounds dangerous but its not if your careful.
I won't lie that live bait is a good thing to use. But, I prefer a texas rig on a blue and purple plastic worm. This works wonders on the edge of high weeds.
