Fishing
Any fish giggers out there?
Fish gigging is a fairly common practice in the Ozarks and one of my favorite things to do, but I have no idea if it's done anywhere else.

When I was a kid I used to hit the corn fields when they would flood and gigged plenty of carp. Haven't done that in years. I mostly snag in the spring for spoonbills but end up getting more asian carp than anything else. I snag at the Alton, IL lock and dam and I used to gig fish along the Kaskaskia river; both areas are just east of St. Louis MO.
what is gigging?
Gigging is when you take a pole with several points on the end with barbs on 'em, and you pretty much just stab the fish and pull it out of the water. Frog giggin is fun too!!!
ohh ive tried that with no luck
ohh ive tried that with no luck
I only have gigged frogs
it sounds interesting ive only heard of it here
yes! where i come from, Jay, Oklahoma, we gig year round. we even have a gigging tournament once a year in april. Its a great sport and more people should get involved. we gig suckers, whitebass and perch to eat, and carp and drum for fun.
I have personally never gigged fish but I know some people around north Alabama that do
we gig a good bit when we are bow fishing and gig them when they get to close to shoot near the boat.
In my state its illegal to gig any fish with the exception of carp.
I never knew that was called gigging. It sounds like fun though, and I want to try it sometime.
I have lived close to Current River in Southeast Missouri all my life and people around here really enjoy gigging suckers. Check out my website about fish gigging. http://www.ozarkfishgigs.com
Its fine with me when you do it for "Rough fish" (Carp, ect)
but if you "Gig" bass or other sport fish, ill knock you and you're gear in the water.
My buddies and I would do it back in high school. We would get out of football practice in the summer and go cool off by gigging carp in the creek.
I'm pretty sure people don't fish gigg 'cause I think it's illegal. I catch frogs on my pole by tying on a hook with a piece of scarlet on it.
in kansas
Pickerel at night in the Northeast.
