Fly Fishing

Bob Quigley passes

Uploaded on June 16, 2012

I'm saddened to report that I've just learned of Bob Quigley's passing on June 12th, 2012. Fly tiers, if you're not familiar with the work of Mr. Quigley, you owe it to yourself to check out his flies. He was the inventor of the Quigley Cripple, a fly that I'd no sooner go without than a spool of 5x when fishing topside. Even if his sole contribution to the fly tying/fishing world was the cripple, his place in our sport's history would be secure. As it is, he is credited with the development of the whole "egg sucking" leech/sculpin/stonefly etc. concept and other innovations. He was a signature tyer for Idylwilde Flies, as well as being considered an expert on the waters of Northern California and Southern Oregon. So thanks Bob, and Godspeed! Tonight I'll hoist one to his memory.

Darn! I am saddened as well. I just viewed a good 10 flies designed by Bob in my "FLY SHOP" catalog out of Redding, CA. A fellow I conversed with ofen on the Bug site was a good friend of Bob's.
