Fly Fishing

Fly Patterns

Uploaded on April 27, 2012

Was wondering what kind of flies everyone ties. Feel free to post fly patterns, recipes, and even photos of flies. Flies can be for any species.

Sorry your post has been ignored so far. I've done most of my fishing on small spring creeks in IA (been to a few decent sized streams in NE IA). The most effective patterns for me have been zonkers and mudlers for adult browns (12+ inch fish) and copper johns or prince nymphs for juvies. The creeks I fish have sporadic mayfly activity and while I know they are there, I've only caught a bwo hatch once and didn't have a small enough fly to match it (size 18 or 20). I've done alright with caddis patterns too I guess. I've really been reading a lot about different techniques and flies lately. I know sayfu is a huge soft hackle (classic wet fly) fan and I've recently tied some of these to try.

I tie way too many to give the subject justice. Many, many of the flies I tie, I have dreams about, and never have the time to even fish them. When I get on the water there is just so much time to alot to trying out new flies, and catching becomes primary, and I turn to proven flies that catch fish given the conditions.
