HELP! Wanting to purchase a Baitcaster.

Uploaded on March 24, 2011

Hey Everyone,
This year is going to be the first year I try fishing with a bait-caster. I've been doing some research but I'm stumped. I want to get a decent reel, but I don't want to spend an arm and a leg for one. I already bought a rod, now waiting to buy a reel and I'm getting anxious, would hate to make a costly mistake for not hearing anyone else's opinion. So anyone out there willing to help me, the floor is yours! Thanks- Corey

P.S. Looking for a low-profile reel.

if you're not looking to spend a ton of cash i'd suggest an abu garcia black max. i taught my buddy to cast with one and he had it down in a couple days.

honestly though i suggest a shimano curado or a abu garcia revo. both are more costly but both will cast a mile and give you years of use for your money.

hey thanks a lot for your time and insight, very much. I've actually decided to go with a Lew,s reel. I can actually get one for a great price. They're a newer company, but have heard only great things about them. Again thanks for your time.- Corey

The new Lew's reel is a good choice. Mr Lynn Reeves (CEO of the new Lew's) has promised to do Lew Childre honor and so far he has. I fished one of the new reels and it met my expectations. But I personally prefer the US Reel SuperCaster. Some of the development of it was by the son of Lew Childre and the SuperCaster has the new angle bar levelwind system.
