The Tip Board

Make your own leader spool dispenser

Uploaded on June 03, 2009

You will need:

  • elastic (3/4" for smaller spools, 1/2" for bigger spools)
  • pony beads
  • super glue
  • 3/8" heat shrink tubing
  • blow dryer
  • scissors
  1. Cut the elastic to a length slightly smaller than the spool it is to go around.
  2. Use a dab of super glue on each end of the elastic to secure it to the sides of a pony bead.
  3. Cut a piece of heat shrink tubing a tad larger than the pony bead.
  4. Slide the heat shrink tubing over the elastic first, and then push it up over the bead.
  5. Hit it good with the blow dryer for a few minutes to shrink up the tubing.
  6. Take your spool of line and thread the end through the bead while stretching the elastic around the spool.

Now you can pull out line whenever you need it while keeping it all held onto the spool at the same time.

Great idea, I've tried this by sewing the elastic through the bead, but they roll too much and don't work well. Thanks, I'll give it a try.

Could also use an empty dental floss containr -- has a spool to wind the line on and a built in line cutter!
